Wondering how training going, I know no one from cilles are involved yet, but would they be available for O'Byrne? Probably best not selecting until we winn all ire. :). But I fear for league if that is case.

I think the Chronicle mentioned that Dunganny was a likely venue.

Rumour has it that the S&C guy ( Coughlan ) that travelled with Andy Mac was not too impressed with the condition of some of the guys on the panel . Did anyone else hear that . Or is that only dirt chucking .

Hardly surprising, didn't hear it, but I think over last few years we are probably the most wrongly strength and conditioned team in country. The dead on feet after 40 minutes game after game only confirms this.

Just wondering what potential Meath lads will be playing with Sigerson college's during the O'Byrne Cup. I know there are a few in DCU, not sure if James Mc is still in UCD. I see DCU freshers won the league with a few Meath lads on the team. Meath players winning anything can only be seen as a positive as we haven't done much of it ourselves in the last number of years

Adam Flanagan
Bryan Menton
Graham Reilly
Shane O'Rourke
Ronan Jones!!
Paddy Kenneally!!!

Does anyone have any idea of the make up of the panel??
With U21's being left out til after their championship ends and college players not available a lot of guys should get a chance to stake a claim for a place in the O'Byrne..

I would tend to agree with these midfield options,I would add Donncha Tobin as a possible option.SOR has barely train so doubt he is an option.

Andy said he has a panel of 50 players at the moment and I don't think that counts the younger players!

Disappointed about Rooney taking a year off, but he wants to travel so I guess no one can blame him.
50 players, that's impressive, heard a couple (2 to be precise) old heads were getting a second chance to prove themselves, mightn't work out for them, but glad to see door not been shut on anyone unlike at mods start.

You are right on the options, but id have a few concerns with a couple of them, is Shane fit enough for inter county anymore? Are we getting the best out of graham by playing him in middle? And probably mist worrying is Menton actually going to be able to perform again?, he had a mare of a game in county final, and actually looked a shadow of his former self.

I understand the following lads will be involved with college teams in O'Byrne Cup, not necessarily all on the current county squad.. NUI Maynooth - Joey Wallace (Ratoath), Barry Dardis (Summerhill), DCU - Dan O'Neill & Thomas O'Reilly (Wolfe Tones), Seamus Lavin, Ronan Jones & Conor Doran (Dunboyne), UCD - James McEntee (Curraha), Niall O'Reilly (Wolfe Tones), IT Carlow - Niall Kane (Summerhill). Could be more lads, and some of these could be incorrect, just a list I was given. Fair few lads involved though which is good.

Let me add, Bryan could easily have been ill on that day maybe carrying a slight knock or something, and I don't want to seem unfair on the guy for one game, he probably had a stormer all year prior to this .

Good luck to Harry.

I thought he had one really outstanding game again the dubs in the O'Byrne but didn't really progress from there...

His loss is an opportunity for somebody else to get the jersey.

What happened Andy tormey? He was flying a few years ago-- great prospect, could field and kick the ball, with a good engine...

Bryan Conlon of Simonstown at midfield and Andys youngest David Mac of Dunboyne at wing forward won the freshers for DCU, is that it or was there more?

Incidentally it was Ronan Jones of Dunboyne and Daniel O Neil of Tones who won it last year for DCU. Haven't seen an awful lot of O Neil but it's a very good benchmark & standard.
