Have the groups been announced yet ? Thought fixtures would be out by now but can't find them. It's great to have excitement again after what was a real inevitable poor year last year. If that is true about the 21's I'b be delighted. We badly need to win a Leinster at underage and that age group this year I think we have a shot. Especially with Barry Callaghan who will have the team well organised and prepared I would imagine. Also you look at the teams that have done well in 21's. Mayo, Dublin, Tyrone, Tipperary, Donegal under Jim in 2010. All teams have won or reached at least one final in recent years and that have translated to senior. The formula seems to be there, hopefully we can follow it LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1458 - 16/11/2016 22:16:54 1934893 Link 6 |
The draw was scheduled to be done tonight so I presume we'll hear in the morning.

Meath got Laois, Wicklow and DIT in the O'Byrne Cup. jackhackett (Meath) - Posts: 773 - 17/11/2016 08:10:00 1934955 Link 0 |
I think if the U21 team does well,it gives alot of confidence to players when they do join with the seniors.

Stick, unless theres a better free taker playing and starting on the team. Look at how Dean Rock improved this year when he was made permanent free taker, no Cluxton coming up etc. Rock on all free's regardless. Brought on his overall game too brian (Meath) - Posts: 1954 - 17/11/2016 09:08:58 1934968 Link 0 |
Mad how i have to come here to get the draw with no proper announcement. Did we have Laois in the group last year or was it the semi? RoyalBadger (Meath) - Posts: 571 - 17/11/2016 10:30:49 1934997 Link 0 |
Yes Laois was a group game

Meath over past few years under Mick ODowd have handled Laois in practically every game other than the draw in Pairc tail team with relative ease. This OByrne cup clash will be the 1st major test of new management Brownepat (Meath) - Posts: 532 - 18/11/2016 13:02:37 1935328 Link 0 |
I've heard that the team are back training...has anyone heard of any new faces on the training panel? Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1318 - 18/11/2016 13:23:19 1935336 Link 6 |
One of the few teams he could handle. That been said I won't worry too much about O'Byrne, of course nice to win it, but I want to see real hunger and proper game plans, also who is looking for a jersey. This is more important than the actual results. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 18/11/2016 13:25:49 1935338 Link 0 |
So your point is,lose that and it shows MOD is a better manager...

I don't think any specific O'Byrne Cup game is a real test of a manager. The O'Byrne Cup is all about looking at options and trying to find players who can be options going forward. jackhackett (Meath) - Posts: 773 - 18/11/2016 14:22:19 1935356 Link 0 |
In all honestly I dont think anyone would think loosing to Laois in O'Byrne as a test. Seriously. ....

McEntee stated he is in every competition to win so in my opinion this is his 1st test Brownepat (Meath) - Posts: 532 - 19/11/2016 09:04:28 1935446 Link 0 |

They're generally the first Sunday after New Years Day, the Wednesday and following Sunday. jackhackett (Meath) - Posts: 773 - 20/11/2016 18:37:36 1935606 Link 0 |
Would that make it the latest start to an O'Byrne cup? Jinxie (Meath) - Posts: 6342 - 21/11/2016 08:42:01 1935666 Link 0 |
I wouldn't remember off hand but I'd imagine every year New Years Day falls on the Sunday then the opening round would be on the 8th. Of course they could opt to space the games out a bit more which would give breathing space if a round needs to be postponed due to bad weather and start on Wednesday January 4th, Round 2 on Sunday the 8th and Round 3 on Sunday the 15th. I think that's unlikely though. jackhackett (Meath) - Posts: 773 - 21/11/2016 09:43:30 1935683 Link 0 |
Wicklow at home on the 8th, D.I.T at home on the 11th and away the Laois on the 15th. I seen on Twitter. Any idea where we will play our home games as Navan has no lights. Simonstown or maybe Ashbourne I am assuming LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1458 - 24/11/2016 00:19:15 1936344 Link 6 |
We played UCD in Simonstown last year,Ashbourne rarely used for county games,I suppose Simonstown is more central.
