Will they get a home game? Every game has been away for them thus far.

Ref giving Simonstown nothing here, and that first point for Rhode looked wide.
Not over yet, come on the Gaels.

It seems the ref is doing Simonstown no favours.

Hard luck the Gaels, never stopped battling despite the overwhelming odds, the ref certainly didn't help with some of his decisions.
Thought the goal Rhode scored was a bit soft but Simonstown will defo rue the missed chance to level it with a goal at the very end.
It was a great start, pulled up a bit after twenty minutes, great second half start then pulled up again but came roaring back into it in the last ten minutes but it was too late by then.
SOR also seemed a bit off the pace today before he was sent off, nothing like the performance against D/A in the final.

Apparently SOR was a doubt heading into the game.

Fantastic result for cilles . Ahh Rosemount now there is a enigma if ever there was one. Cant wait for final, hmmmm Gaels lost to Rhode though. Wasn't at game but was there a bit of petulance from O'Rourke senior? On the sideline

Judging by this report in the Irish Times it appears that O'Rourke had good cause to be annoyed.....

Rhode (Offaly) 1-12 Simonstown Gaels (Meath) 1-9

It was a bad day for the O'Rourke's as Simonstown Gaels' ambitions in the Leinster Club Senior Football Championship were ended by Rhode in a ferociously contested quarter-final in Tullamore on Sunday.

Manager Colm O'Rourke was ordered from the sideline during the first half after contesting a decision by referee, Patrick Maguire, who also removed the Meath legend when he tried to resume his place on the line at the start of the second half while his son, Shane O'Rourke, was sent off for a second yellow card nine minutes after the break.

Maguire proved to be a central figure in proceedings and Simonstown made their displeasure known - Rhode's first point from a Niall McNamee free certainly looked to be wide of the target while a second half point by Anton Sullivan was also the subject of debate afterwards.

It was a teak tough game of football and Simonstown were the better team by a distance early on. They were full value for their 0-4 to 0-1 lead after eleven minutes but once Rhode settled, they began to make inroads and they went in at half time with a 0-6 to 0-4 lead.

Frees from Pauric McKeever and the outstanding Sean Tobin put the Meath kingpins on level terms after the restart. Rhode had edged a point clear when O'Rourke saw red and as the game wore on, the extra man had a big bearing on proceedings.

With Niall McNamee in great form for the Offaly champions, they had a four point gap opened up by the 46th minute and Conor McNamee's powerful 50th minute goal gave them a 1-10 to 0-7 lead.

Impressive sub Darren Garry quickly added a point but there was still fight in a very gallant Simonstown. A penalty goal from Eanna Donoghue gave them a lifeline with seven minutes left and they got it back to two points but the final score was a fantastic individual point from Niall McNamee as Rhode held on.

Rhode: K Garry; J McPadden, S Sullivan, J Kavanagh; B Darby (0-1), E Rigney, N Darby (0-1); A McNamee, C McNamee (1-1); A Sullivan (0-1), N McNamee (0-5, 1f), P Sullivan; P McPadden (0-1, f), R McNamee, S Hannon. Subs: D Garry (0-2) for P McPadden (39m), G O'Connell for P Sullivan (45m), C Heavey for N Darby (57m), G Mcnamee for R McNamee (62m).

Simonstown Gaels: R Burlingham; S Gallagher, N McNahon, S Moran; M O'Rourke, C Conlon, N Kane; S O'Rourke, C Sheridan; J Lyons (0-1), S Kenny, M McCabe; P McKeever (0-2, 1f), S Tobin (0-5, 1f), E Donoghue (1-0, p). Subs: McGrath for M O'Rourke (H/t), M Brennan (0-1, '45') for Lyons (41m), S Barry for Sheridan (52m), C Nash for Kenny (55m).

Referee: P Maguire (Longford).

Yep, looks like just cause that Colm was furious. Huge pity as they seemed to be well up for it, another game for a Meath side ruined by bad officiating.

You can't exactly put it all down to 'bad officiating'.

Especially when not at the game. I listened on LMFM and while Brendan Cummins seemed to be of the opinion that Simonstown were being harshly treated, a local radio broadcaster isn't exactly impartial.

Without being at the game it's impossible to say whether or not Simonstown were hard done by.

The first point Rhode scored was just wide for sure and there was one in the second half which looked wide to me (but I couldn't be certain). The sending off (second yellow for SOR) was harsh and realistically killed off any chance of Simonstown winning. They played well early in the first half and later on in the second but Rhode were the better team overall once they got into their stride. Their #5 really ran at and through the Simonstown backline too freely. If Conor Nash had started in would have been different but alas that wasn't to be yesterday or going forward. SOR was playing very deep at times and without Conor Nash around the middle it was hard to get far enough forward to take scores or get good ball into scoring forwards throughout the match. Sean Tobin played well though.

Indeed wasn't at game, however INDEPENDENT reports stated Rhode had point awarded that was clearly wide, and they not speaking of inches but rather feet, perhaps 3/4ft. Add to that sinonstown were given a wide for what appeared to be a good score, also one of sor yellows were questionable, and seemingly all the 50/50 calls went Rhodes way.
So hardly a stretch when you read hear of things like this you put partial blame on officiating, whether or not you at game.

SOR was on a yellow when he did something silly which was another yellow- BC though second yellow severe while MK said the Ref had little choice. It is indeed very easy to blame the Ref - that's is a well quoted excuse!. Sometimes it is difficult to determine what is 'independent' and sometimes it is difficult to determine what is correct. Hard luck to the Gaels they did have a very good year winning the top prize. I would give Rhode or the O'Mahony's of Louth little chance against St V if the get into final.

Was at the game yesterday. Thought SOR was unlucky, two very soft yellow cards. It seemed when ever he challenged someone, the Rhode players would stay down and roll around the ground.
I wasn't overly impressed by Rhode, Niall McNamee is a class act.
If Simonstown had Nash and O'rourke for the full game it may have been a different outcome.
Don't think Meath clubs teams are that far behind the chasing pack after Dublin in Leinster.
Hard to see Vincents not winning it

Sean O Mahoney's from Dundalk have come along way in a short space of time. They won the Louth Inter Championship in 2014 and then went on to win the Leinster Inter Championship that year beating Caulry from Westmeath, Castleknock who reached this years Dublin Senior Championship, Eadestown from Kildare and your own Ballinlough in the final. Last year they reached the first ever Senior final only to be beaten by the great Paddy Keenan and his Pats team. This year they went one better and eventually won the holy grail for the very first time. In the Leinster Senior Championship they beat Baltinglass away and Sarsfields in Drogheda. They are playing Rhode in Drogheda and Rhode are missing a couple of players due to oversea's duties. Congrats to the Cilles on reaching the Leinster Inter Championship final. It should be an interesting battle with Westmeath's Rosemouth.

STown were the better team for the 1st 15 mins and last 10 of this game. They were only a point down when SOR got the 2nd yellow. Maybe he should have held back but the other player milked it big time. Rhode had a call for their players to go down at various stages and the ref bought them each time. 2 dubious 'points' and a strew of bad decisions (he was bad at times for Rhode also it must be said) left it very difficult for ST. The free given against Brian Conlon when he was pulled down for instance was a joke. COR ended up in the stand remonstrating that call. Not having Nash was the biggest loss though.
There's no doubt Meath teams are close but whoever the next winners are will need the full support of the co board & also the other senior clubs to an extent. One of Rhode mgt team said at the end that they had watched ST's last 3 games on video. It is a free world but if you are representing your county, then maybe a little bit of loyalty could be shown from the other clubs? It would be better if the winners had more time to prepare also. 2 weeks between the co final and 1st round of Leinster does not help progression. But then again, the co board would have to change their priorities for that to happen.
