So it's possible obviously. Is Gillespie's particularly bad then? GlasgowRoyal (Meath) - Posts: 293 - 28/09/2016 15:05:00 1920179 Link 0 |
Didn't he do it twice on the same knee within 12 months...? Just recovering from it and it happend again. Very unfortunate. RedMeath12 (Meath) - Posts: 117 - 28/09/2016 15:31:39 1920188 Link 0 |
Someone here mentioned Tagdh O'Dushlaine at one stage. 5 points from play last weekend from the half back line? Impressive to say the least.. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 28/09/2016 16:08:05 1920207 Link 2 |
Focus here seems to be 100% on senior club players in spite of people often complaining that the net isn't cast wide enough. Are there are no lads in intermediate or junior who could make the step up ala James McEntee? BarneysTie (Meath) - Posts: 258 - 28/09/2016 17:20:41 1920232 Link 0 |

Players recover well from cruciate injuries all the time. Giles did it in 99 - he did his in 98 and won the all ireland the next year. Some players even played on in the same game after getting it. Larry Tompkins springs to mind. Its a serious injury all right but the recovery path is well understood and treatment is pretty effective these days. For someone with multiple cruciate injuries though, that has to take its toll.. You'd have to ask is it worth the pain for any amateur footballer to go through.

Whats the story with Conor Nash. Is he on holidays back home? Or is he in Ireland full time now? Looks like he has the attributes to be given a go with the county setup. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1319 - 29/09/2016 10:02:31 1920380 Link 3 |

Cheers for filling me in. I wasn't aware whether it was a common injury and what the return success rate was in GAA. Sounds like Gillespie's is particularly bad and he might not come back, which is a real shame as he looked a special talent.

It appears that this is the time of year for guys posting about players and whether the are county material- needless to say some of them are equally as good or better than what is already there. Just because a guy plays one good match does not make him a county player -you need consistency which many of our current team /players do not have. Other posters think because a defender scores then he is automatically a good defender. When you judge how a player plays you should also analyse what his opposite number did and how good a player is he. Quite a few players from all the club teams play well when they are well on top but go missing when the pressure comes on in a match. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 29/09/2016 14:54:40 1920533 Link 3 |
Just looking at the Meath Mayo brawl on website. No doubt we were a tough hard team to play against in those glory years and would like to see Andy Mc try out new players who have a bit of bite to them. Too many of our current crop are young nice fast footballers but you need a few hard hitting footballers that opposition players don't like playing against. Don't know if we breed them anymore in Meath. Poormouth (Meath) - Posts: 204 - 29/09/2016 15:55:31 1920570 Link 1 |
I'm not sure if its we don't breed them or its just reffed out of them at club level!! Some games ya can't look at an opposition player without a free or black card being issued!! ratlag (Meath) - Posts: 557 - 29/09/2016 16:35:20 1920587 Link 0 |
Kieran McGeeney Tore his cruciate and neither his club or Armagh could afford the operation back in the 90's. Played on without getting an operation (just rehab) and went on to captain Armagh to an All Ireland. Could have no cruciate in both knees if i'm not mistaken. I'm also wondering how many who are saying he is worth a run on a new panel were actually at the game on Sunday or are just basing it on the match report which they have read.

Hear hear, we seem to favour small pacy players with the speed and agility to stay out of trouble, we need to have players who can stand up and look after themselves in a 'schmozzle' and if necessary initiate that 'schmozzle'. Most defences can deal with pacy forwards but there's nothing more unsettling than having to keep looking over your shoulder when you're challenging for a ball. We need to bring a bit more physicality and fear into our set up, once we have that the football will follow after. "We might not be able to play great football ourselves but we know how to contain and stop you playing it" should be the style we adopt.
