If you read my post properly, you will see that I said "have been tried with the Seniors". O'Coilean, Power, Harnan, Lavin, Flanagan, O'Sullivan, McEntee (james) and Rooney have all been tried. That is 8 of the players that played in the all-Ireland final. If Mick ODowd had a full panel to choose from ,you would think that Power Harnan Flanagan O'Sullivan Mcentee and rooney would all have been first choice. That is more than normal for any minor team, especially one that was not outstanding. As someone mentioned earlier, the Dublin team that beat us easily that day have 4 players on the seniors. That is about normal. the reason more did not make it(yet) is that it is hard to get onto the Dublin panel. it is unfortunately all too easy to get onto the Meath panel these days. anfearbeag (Meath) - Posts: 1134 - 27/08/2016 11:49:18 1906622 Link 3 |

No they only played Louth in leinster league and gave them a hiding, you're mixing up the 2011 team I think! That dublin side weren't world beaters, far from it and unfortunately neither were the Kildare team if today's game with kerry is anything to go by

I can quietly whisper that Andy has been in contact with players that were previously on the Panel (these players are giving there full commitment and are extremely excited about the new regime; an excitement they said was never there for the previous 3 managers) along with other prospect players not on the panel another words he's hit the ground running

Won't be back. Doubt he will even play club again which is awful. Injuries have gotten the better of him :(

That's sad to hear if true. Had huge potential and was beginning to fulfil it when the injury happened. I never like to speculate on individual injuries, as we usually don't have the full facts. However, with the number of chronic injuries that Meath players seem to have, you would have to wonder whether our injured players are being treated and rehabilitated correctly. anfearbeag (Meath) - Posts: 1134 - 19/09/2016 16:13:51 1916424 Link 3 |
That's very positive to hear. The quality isn't lacking & Mc Enter will show us that.

That is a good question..compare to other counties our players never seem to recover !

We do seem to suffer from losing a number of players to injury and then never see them again in a county jersey after recovery.

Had to weigh in on that there (one of the silent readers normally!), been saying for a while that injuries seem to be a major issue in Meath. Every county has to deal with it but we seem to never quite get our players right back up to form after an injury which should raise alarm bells! Injuries are normal and if correctly treated should not see the end of an intercounty career unless very extreme!

Would you not argue that Gillespie's injury is extreme?

A lot of posters here have been harping on about strength and conditioning as if it was the main ingredient for a footballer. Most injuries are coming from same and within the county setup there has been an unusual l amount of injuries. Seen the Hill playing quite a lot over the last 2 years and Gillespie is sometimes on the side line and still injured. Any player who is out of football for 2 or 3 years at that age has little or no chance of competing at county level- now there are always exceptions. I do hope he still resume his football even if it is at club level. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 20/09/2016 12:47:21 1916870 Link 5 |
