I know this is off the point but watching Mayo getting into Dublin faces, was great. Meath used to show the way how to take on Dublin. Looks like we have lost a lot over the years. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1263 - 02/10/2016 08:37:38 1921345 Link 0 |
It is the physically aspect and mental character to keep going. You have to have that against Dublin or to be successful.

Yeah, but to need to get in there face. You say what you like about Mayo but a least there stood up over past few years and gave in a go.

I don't think Mayo's mentality can be questioned in the last few weeks. They played Dublin twice and lost by a point overall.I agree with you, they disrupted Dublin and gave it their best shot. The decision to drop Clarke for Hennelly cost them badly imo.

It was all down to poor game management on the day, how ineffective does Seamus O'Shea have to be to be substituted..? Wedgie (Meath) - Posts: 253 - 02/10/2016 11:41:08 1921423 Link 0 |
It went down to poor management leaving a good experienced keeper on the side line- he was one of their best players the last day out. The difference in the result went down to Dublin getting a penalty and later in the match Mayo being not given a more obvious penalty. The analysis on tv is becoming a bore as most of the guys appear to have the same opinions. The last day out and again yesterday the blamed the keepers for outfield players not winning short and long kick outs- no mention of the outfield players being alert and getting onto position. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 02/10/2016 13:09:26 1921457 Link 3 |
I don't actually criticise them for changing keeper, yes he had a great game in the drawn match, making some very fine saves. His kickouts did let him down though so I think it was gutsy move to switch keepers if they felt that Hennelly could improve that area of their game. He's normally a very good keeper but the fumble he made of the ball that led to the penalty was a howler of schoolboy proportions but these things can happen in any game. I also felt mayo could have done more to control Cluxton's short ball kickouts, I believe they should have pushed up on them and forced him to kick long where the Mayo midfield could have swept them up, allowing your opponents to take short kickouts is conceding primary possession, and Dublin are lethal at moving the ball up the field past the opposing midfield and into the kill zone. Dylan Brady from Ashbourne seems to be having a great championship. Scoring highly and always seems to be getting goals. We only scored 1 in 3 championship games last year so it has to be looked at. Is it just me or is our worst sector our inside forwards. Felt we had no ball winners or no heavy scorers there last year LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1464 - 02/10/2016 22:19:01 1921665 Link 3 |
Ah for gods sake Mayo bet by one missed chances parsons after a minute and OConnor after 85 that's how close Mayo were great team only one in country to challenge dubs. Seamus OShea had z find game some great interceptions zinc I was his biggest critic after game 1

It wasn't the missed chance at the end that had them 'bet', it was the missed chances they failed to take when they should have. The goalkeeping error and the missed free at the end were only two small factors that contributed to their loss on the day and if they don't realise that they soon will when they sit down to watch it again. In a game of inches it doesn't really matter whether you lose by the smallest margin or double scores but from personal experience it's often more comforting to lose by five or six points than lose by a single point. I was in Páirc Tailteann yesterday to see the Intermediate semi-finals and caught the second half of the Ashbourne/Dunshaughlin game. I noticed Melia from Ashbourne who I think is worth another go with Meath wasn't playing. Can any of the Ashbourne heads on here enlighten be as to whether he's injured and if so is it long term? He's a tidy centre back with a bit of a presence about him. The type of player I feel mcentee will like. jackhackett (Meath) - Posts: 773 - 03/10/2016 19:09:50 1922075 Link 0 |
I didn't manage to make the game on Sunday, but he played for D/ASH recently,if injured it is only recently and doubt it is long term.

Why would you doubt it is long term? Are you psychic? Meathgaa5 (Meath) - Posts: 339 - 03/10/2016 22:05:10 1922152 Link 0 |

Any update on Ronan Jones from Dunboyne. He was first sub against Dublin. He never got a run against Derry I don't think. Has he been playing with Dunboyne ? Not new, but he is new to me. Is he a prospect next year ? bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1263 - 14/10/2016 11:27:45 1926149 Link 0 |
I seen him against Summerhill a few months ago when he played very well. Personally I'd like to see him concentrate on the U-21's and then when they're done come in with the Seniors and try to nail down a starting spot. jackhackett (Meath) - Posts: 773 - 14/10/2016 11:40:04 1926157 Link 0 |
