I can't see it happening to be honest (although I would be delighted to be proven wrong). I think the players are just not there to reach that level in the next 2 years. I do believe that Andy McEntee will improve us as a team, but we are way behind the big guns at this stage. We need at least 6-8 new players, and assuming that they are not available in the county at the minute, then we have to wait for them to come through from minor/U-21 teams. Given that, I think a more realistic ambition would be to reach division 1 within 2 years, and an All-Ireland semi within 4. As to when we could win a Leinster, God only knows."
Hey look , after the disastrous last few years if it takes 4 to reach semis ill take it, that been said apart from quinlivan I think we have as good as players at the moment as Tipp have.
But I totally agree division 1 is where we need to be.

Division 1 and an all Ireland quarter final have to be the main goals. And if you reach a quarter with the luck of the draw you might get a team you could beat.

If meath improved, this year for example you could see them having a chance against Tyrone or Galway if they drew them.

If they drew Tyrone and beat them you'd have tipp in an all Ireland semi.

Very encouraging initial interview with Meath Football Manager Andy McEntee. Couldnt argue with anything said.
Btw can someone explain what he meant when he described Gerry Mc's attitude as "Full Frontal"?? haha

He dismisses the general perception of supporters who say we are second rate.

I agree with that,I have said many times that we have a lot of talent, they will soon believe.

I agree...it's all about belief. Instilling belief in these players is as Andy says the biggest challenge.

Thanks for the link Bert - I has missed that interview. He certainly talks the talk well, now we just need to see can he put it into action.
I liked the part where he talked about the connection between players and supporters being formed by the hard work of the players. Rightly or wrongly, the impression among many supporters over the past few years is that we were falling behind a lot of other counties in terms of our work ethic and committment. As McEntee says himself, hard work is no guarantee of success. But it is essential that the supporters see that everything possible is being done to bring us up to the top level. They will forgive failure if they can see that maximum effort is being put in.

What a Inspirational interview, compared to the doom and gloom of the past few years, and of saying we only div 2 team and been delighted to stay in it. Totally different style and his views on supporters is so refreshing compared to giving out about us, he wants to reconnect with us. Honestly cant Wait until O'Byrne starts. A new dawn is coming.

Yeah-- I like that he has engaged with media and thus supporters.

I think it's crucial that we get supporters back behind the team and take an interest in what Andy is trying to achieve.

Very disappointing to see the numbers in pairc tailteann earlier in the year.

I know plenty who have stopped going to matches...

Yeah so do I, I do think Meath cb should also do a bit of pr , they have been very anti supporter unless you agreed 100% ,
This is a great chance to get interest in Meath senior team again. Wouldn't it be great to have 4/5 thousand supporters at O'Byrne cup in pt in January? And for that to follow through the league

Sounds like he is really happy with his back room staff. And sounds like he is lining up a decent strength and conditioning coach. Which is very badly needed. Reading between the lines he was not happy with the performance of Meath over the past few years. Basically saying no one if going to pay watch some performances that where dished out.

Think Meath supporters which are made up of the GAA community that includes alot of past and present players are annoyed with meath football (club) and the way it is run which can be seen in so many threads on hoganstand and by word of mouth, which has had a negative knock on affect to the Meath Senior team(along their performances). Hopefully Mc Entee can make a new era of positivity and get people back interested in Meath Football in a whole. If we can do this hopefully it will have a positive knock on affect to the clubs and the next generation of Meath footballers.

I know talk is cheap but it certainly was an encouraging interview and I hope he can hit the ground running. McEntee made the point that settling for 2nd best is something that doesn't interest him at all and it's good to hear that sort of ambition and unapologetic talk. Hopefully the players will buy into his mentality and we can start to make progress.

I agree, I think the CB have been anti-supporter and they've been neatly backed up by their buddies in the local press. Blaming fans is a little counterproductive though, I mean they're the paying costumers, surely you should be trying to hold on to as many as you can and attracting new supporters.

They sort of remind me of Basil Fawlty, they're running a business but they can't stand their paying costumers, in fact they see us as a major inconvenience.

Players thrive off the fans and vice versa.

Win, lose or draw I don't think we'll get any excuses from Andy once the players give it their all. As a fan you can't really ask for anything more

Very good interview, comes across as a no nonsense sort of guy without being at over the top. Best of luck to him and the squad for next year!

He knows there is a disconnection between players and fans, where one should feed off the other. There is no grandeur with the man, he doesn't care about been liked or called a nice man, he is there to do a job, and if you don't work hard, its goodbye.
