My kepak now fits me like a bra.

The years have taken their toll

With the news that Harry Rooney is heading abroad for 12 months and is unavailable for next season what did people here think our midfield will be next year?

He was our only midfielder in this year. Bad news for Meath football if true.

Lol. Yep like a boob tube, I know the feeling, the weight gets more and the hair gets less. Oh to be young again.

Yeah people should really be buying the two jerseys. The money will be well spent, just have a look at the great floodlights in the swimming pool carpark.

If true, I'd be very disappointed. Losing Nash to aussie rules is tough but losing harry to travel as well is another thing.
Those two would've been a match for the best midfields in the country.
So Adam flanagan will be back from his cruciate and he'll get a chance to put his imprint on one jersey. The other could be a fully fit Shane O'Rourke (i won't hold hope on this) if he'd be able to stay fit and could get around the pitch.

you're likely right mate and thats why i qualified it ;)

Maybe menton or your buddy Graham alongside Adam i'd guess.

Graham there would be good as it might allow us a half forward line of
Cillian-Newman-Forde/McEntee

Harnan and either Flanagan or Jones would be my picks for midfield right now. Or Harnan and Menton if he's up for it.

Slightly disappointed with Harry's progress last year. Then again quite a few players failed to progress under the last regime

Up to the county final I would have said Menton also and maybe that was a once off. But combining this with his decision to take leave perhaps we should be looking elsewhere for this position. Regarding Graham Reilly, I personally don't like him there - best imho as a wing forward.

Hopefully a new player can be sprung but two players from last year that i would like to see being given a shot at the position are Donnacha Tobin and Alan Douglas. Both athletic & strong with a bit of physicality that is needed when playing the big teams.

Keep Harnan at centre back in my opinion. he did well there last year & its also a crucial position.

While you might be right with graham as the midfielder, I have been of the opinion to stick him in ff line (named only ) and allow two man forward line with him drifting out between midfield and hf line as a 4 hf if you like , allowing the 3 hf to track back etc (perhaps his weakest point) a turn over and quick ball would more often Tha not end in a score. I just thought it might be more effective, and it would help with quick counter attack. But if Rooney is gone id say he will be midfielder.

Rooney a big loss based on last year but have faith the Mcs will work the magic, as regards Graham Reilly at midfield, super footballer but doesnt work hard enough when out of poseession, better used elsewhere

Agreed. There is only one place for Graham Reilly if he is to play for Meath and that is to have him breaking from deep, whether that be as a third midfielder or in a position between half backs and midfield...the only issue there is that he does not have great vision to create. But what he is is a pure athlete with great pace and power. Its no coincidence that his best year for Meath was when we had him midfield coming off the shoulder from deep where he can't be marked and its difficult to track him.

Already lacking options at midfield. Seems Meath can rarely get all there best players available.
