Next Meath manager

I hope this appointment will get the pulses rising in our players again. This man commands respect for his achievements as a manager. I hope the best players make themselves available should he contact them. The best players being available and playing will improve Meath by 50% minimum. We have too many players on the county team playing football at intermediate and junior level and its simply not near the standards required. They wouldn't even realise the level of training required never mind get to he level of play. I make no apologies for saying that, whole hearted no doubt but not good enough. Too many young players were thrown in at the deep end too soon and it has backfired and pushed us back to a poor level in the province. 1/2 of so called "Big Names" should be looking over their shoulders imo, great when your ahead of louth or wicklow but are missing when their needed consistently!!! I'd be building my squad around Keoghan, Harnan,Rooney, O Sullivan & Newman, after that everything is up for grabs. Best of luck to Andy and his management team, big job ahead.

Does anyone think that MOD was put in last year because the county board knew Andy would not have been available last year?

Replying To Jimin10:  "It is almost guaranteed that we will see a swift change in attitude starting next year. The players will begin to believe in themselves which is what the team have been lacking for years. Promotion and a Leinster title is all of a sudden a realistic goal whereas with MOD you were never sure what the outcome would be. I hear Shane O'Rourke was playing with Simonstown it would be nice to see him back in a Meath jersey and get some much needed presence in the full forward line. Can't wait for next year Hon the Royals!"
I think it might take a little more time though. We will see improvements next year but lets not get too far ahead.

Replying To pretender:  "Ziggy, on Carroll perhaps but i would certainly not rule anything out. It will depend on the overall style of play. I just dont see an out and out playmaker at the moment out there and we need one who can pass and dictate the pace of the game. I am not saying he is a solution but everything needs to be looked at."
Cillian O'Sullivan...

It will be interesting to see if new sponsors come in for next season.I would imagine if Tayto Park want to keep sponsoring Meath, they will have to offer more money.

Mcentee has alot to sort out.....firstly up too 40% of the current panel should be very worried, I can think of up to 15 players without having to think that hard that could easily be dropped altogether,......secondly he needs to get the best players back on the panel, the likes of Menton, Curran maybe even brayer and a few others from NOM. I disagree with them not playing cause of previous management, bray excluded obviously, it should be an honour to play for your county regardless of whose in charge but that's in the past now, thirdly , attitude on and off the field has to be addressed.....I heard first hand of some ridiculous leeway MOD gave the players, for 6 to 8 months if there committing to the cause they have to put themselves in that hands of mcentee ....end of.. With the attitude on the pitch...well this is Andy's biggest challenge, it seems that Westmeath game has done damage mentally beyond repair so we'll have to watch this space on that one.

One of the main reasons for Sean Boylans success is he looked beyond the Senior clubs when picking his teams, Robbie O' Malley, Martin O' Connell, Bernard Flynn etc. If the manager sticks to senior clubs he will be loosing out on many of the countys better players. Anyway is the Meath Senior championship in that much of a huge step up from intermediate ?, look at how Na Fianna won the intermediate and in their first 3 years in Senior got to 2 finals. Navan get hammered in Leinster Club championship each year they play in it while Ratoath won Leinster intermediate fairly easily while Curraha won the Leinster Junior (as Meath clubs win it most years).

McEntee won't let them away with what MOD let them away with off the pitch.McEntee will want to win,he is not there to babysit a social club.If some players don't want to commit in the right way, they should leave, otherwise they will be dropped.I understand it is huge committment, but if you are there, then you have to do it 100%.

I would agree 100%

It is actually a surprise the sense of renewal that is felt after appointing Andy and some might say it's far fetched and we won't see a short term improvement. But that is a wrong point of view. This team can't sink any lower and better days are ahead. I think if Andy can cull the panel in a more controlled way than MOD did in his first year in charge and have that good blend of experience and youth we will establish ourselves as a top 10 team once again.

Would agree that some of current panel may not be retained but I feel he will give them every chance to prove themselves, but he has a lot to do, from basics like kick outs to a reliable free taker and getting leaders on the field. I have no doubt he comes in to job knowing exactly the problems he faces and would not have taken on the job if he thought he could not improve things.

Best of Luck to Andy and Co going forward .It will take a bit of time to address the slide that has been occurring in the last number of years , but at least the League and other competitions will allow that before 2017 .
Patience from the supporters will be required . As it won't be a magic wand scenario .

Great appointment and the one we all wanted. A lot of players will face uncertain futures but I'm sure everyone will start with a clean slate and will have to prove themselves. If O'Rourke has something to offer I'd love to see him involved. Likewise with Gillespie but he seems to be some way from returning. Wouldn't surprise me if Bray was enticed back for a year or two but that's probably unlikely.

This is the strongest ticket we could've hoped for and I'm already feeling positive about next year. We face into the league with games against Clare, Cork, Derry, Down, Fermanagh, Galway and Kildare. Similar chances of promotion to previous years but hopefully Andy will be able to get us over the line this time and I think I'm correct in saying that we will have 4 home games. Getting a little ahead of myself I know but promotion is definitely there for the taking.

Seems to have been a big drop in sponsorship recently particularly with Tayto Park halving their contribution this year. Andy should be able to attract some more interest in the team and this will only increase if success comes on the field. I think we as supporters need to get behind whatever team takes the field next year as well. Wasn't at the Christy Ring cup games but I believe there was so much enthusiasm from the supporters. I feel that there is a rotten attitude in the terraces from supporters who were fortunate enough to witness the success of the 80s and 90s. Not painting everyone with the same brush of course but there is an awful lot of negativity from certain corners at these games and that only filters through to the players.

bdbuddah (Meath)- I am not aware of any players of the calibre of Bernard Flynn or Martin O'Connell in any junior , intermediate clubs (or any club for that matter)- not sure what you have been watching over the past couple of years. And you should know that the standards are higher as to go to higher grades.

I dont think anyone is saying that we have equivalent players to the great teams of the 80's / 90's. However, the fact is that Sean Boylan used players from Intemediate / Junior clubs. Yes, players have a better chance of development playing at a higher level but players outside senior teams should not be automatically be discarded as has been suggested here.
