Replying To GlasgowRoyal:  "Disagree about the captaincy current or previous it's never 'irrelevant.' He is entitled to his opinion but in some cases it's far better to keep your counsel. Was a poor show from him in my opinion."
You're right, it was a poor show from him, some will do their best to deny that but they'd be clutching at straws.

Replying To browncows:  "KR is entitled to his opinion just as we are. Being a former captain is irrelevant as it is just his opinion and his opinion only. The problem with quotes are they are sometimes taken out of context- maybe he was meaning the way we set out and they way we have lost nearly all the second halves in most matches we have played and in that context he would be correct. Saying we could have won the match counts for little as that could be said for all the matches we lost. I do feel for the players as they have put a significant amount of energy and time out of their lives in playing for the county - unlike our many posters who have probably played little and at a very low level where little time or effort is/was required"
The players have been going through the motions. The culture has to change, you have to be fully committed if you want to be successful and they are not.

Anyone on here who's raising questions about Kevin Reilly's abilities as a top class athlete and footballer has clearly never been marked by him...

I was never marked by him,but I think he was one of the best full backs in the country.Probably would have been better if it wasn't for injury.

Ah Yes ....Kevin was one of the best around when fit.......all history now.....lets move on ......I wonder will the steering committee do as it says on the tin? Suggest the road ahead ,and have a major input into meeting our immediate needs. Or is this pie in the sky stuff?? I do recall reading where it was planned they would have a major role.... Any updates from anyone on this?

Yeah I think it's unfair to question how good of a footballer he was. Personally I thought he was a great full back.

There would have been a place for him on present team, badly missing leaders. Thought he was a first class full back who put his body on the line by constantly coming back from serious injury problems to give it his best shot.

Replying To royallady:  "Of course he is entitled to his opinion but very disrespectful of the players, a lot of whom he played with. Also find it quite hipocritical as he was the very one raving about MOD and giving him full support."
Yeah agree with that completely

No doubt on his day he was excellent fb, however I think these comments showed he was no leader, and should never have been captain.

That guy's comments are all over the shop to be honest, after MOD was ratified for another year he tweeted his approval. I questioned him that after such a collapse against Westmeath why he would be ratified, he went on to sing his praises and voice how great the structures he put in place after the shambles left behind by Banty. After the Dublin match he tweeted something like "insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results", I replied back well you were the one happy about his re-appointment. Then he comes out and said Meath have no chance of beating Derry, great inspiration for his mates he played with last year.... so did he feel the same going to Omagh last year also?

RoyalDunne,

Captains are leaders and thus lead , and go out and do the biz . KR voiced his opinion on how the game would pan out in Owen Beg .
based on the results of the Dublin match etc.
He knows what's going on behind the closed doors of the Meath Senior team , after all he's only been out of there a couple of months .
If he sat back and plumosed like the rest of the psychophants in the county I would have been more disappointed . Captains / real leaders don't plumose , they get the job done . Your type of Captain is thus a Mouse , who only speaks for the benefit of the populace .
How many marque players are in Meath .... Lots , or very few ... is it not indicative of a problem when a number of them , retire abruptly , or do not wish to play for a Team / Manager . When your in , your in , when your out , you are allowed to voice an independent opinion .
You appear to like dismissing anyone who has the audacity to speak out .... I wonder why that is .

But the point some were making was that his comments were not helpful and certainly haven't been consistent. He supported a Senior Football Management team who most could see weren't progressing and/or getting the best out of players!

Chaisleain_Abu (Meath) -You are correct and I would add if you play on a team (or part of a panel) you do not run down your own management unless you are a fool.

So in short , if KR was asked a question he should have said , the guys will do well , we have the measure of Derry , even though we were lucky in the League . Even though we looked like we were trying on a new suit just before a wedding ( defensive system Vs Dublin ) .
The qualifiers will allow us to work on that system , and allow us to reach the end game. We haven't been able to progress this way for a while but this time it will be different .
I'm afraid I preferred his honesty , compared to the two page spread given over in the Meath Chronicle to SB , where he basically stated all will be alright on the night . Even though the players didn't seem to know what they were doing against Dublin .... We never put them under pressure in that game . SB implied that we did but not enough , laughable . From a man of his experience , a spade is a spade .......

He's not part of the team or Management , and I don't think he's a fool ..... Just been honest . Which is sadly lacking in Meath GAA circles at present..

In my opinion this is a non topic.

He called it as it is.
He sees what everyone else sees.

Last week a work mate (Dub) asked me would Meath be able to beat Derry..

My answer was "The team is well capable but I say theyll fall off in the second half and throw it away"

I wasnt using psychic powers.. I was just referring to the County form of:

2nd half collapses
Record to Northern teams
0 wins in 4 years in qualifiers
