Meath vs Antrim - Christy Ring Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This whole thing has been & is a mess. Not only are the county teams (MH & ATM) messed with, but the club teams in MH are seriously messed around with. Like im sure a lot of young lads working in pubs/shops etc had already arranged time off work for the time & day of the c/ship games & now that is all changed around.

Like the GAA could hold a meeting at midnight into the early hours last year to make sure Diarmuid Connolly got off to play a game. But just because it isn't a money making team/competition the GAA couldn't care less. They took 3 days to meet & announce a replay. It should have been Sunday morning at the latest maybe even Saturday night.

Replying To hilloftara:  "Because Billyjack, surely it would have made more sense for Togher to be told to nail that point if at all possible and then Meath would have been "2 points up" - then Antrim would have had to score a goal to "win" - nobody knew exactly how long more the ref was going to play so by "killing the ball" there was still an opportunity for Antrim to go down the other end and score a point to "level" the match - anyway, that's all irrelevant now - the whole thing is just one big mess but I think more Meath supporters need to realise they are not the only victims in all of this...."
Meath supporters already know they're "not the only victims" in all this at the moment, but they're about to be.....

hilloftara, had Toher gone for accuracy rather than power, it could have very easily dropped short, Antrim gone up the other end and gotten the equaliser/winner. Then people would be screaming that Toher should have killed it rather than risk a quick break. It's simple game management and going by the score at the time (confirmed by the referee) they carried it out excellently.

Does the Antrim team actually need to turn up on Saturday to fulfill this fixture to the GAA's satisfaction or can they just send someone from the county board down to collect the cup for them...?
Seems pointless sending the whole team down if the refs going to blow it up as soon as he throws in the ball, likewise there doesn't seem much point in the supporters having to travel all the way down to Newry and pay in to watch that. I can't really see them wanting to celebrate it or anything.

Antrim won't have won this game either, they'll have had the title handed to them by Croke Park...

Ziggy would they not win by default? all ref has to do is throw in and antrim score a point?

Taken from the GAA website

The Central Competitions Control Committee met this morning to consider a formal request from the Meath County Committee for a postponement of the Christy Ring Cup Final Replay between Meath and Antrim scheduled for this Saturday evening, June 11th.

Given the unique circumstances involved, the C.C.C.C. agreed to postpone the game. It will now take place on Saturday, June 25th in Croke Park at 5pm.

So it's set for the 25th.. There can be no complaints from either side now.. Hopefully Hawkeye will be working and someone get a ref who can count.

I would not put all the blame on a ref as he is supposed to have 6 other officials helping him- some officials are quite good at helping players get black cards but maybe they may not be very good at counting.

The kids should be finished the Junior Cert by then, maybe one of them would be available to come in and show the GAA how to do some basic adding and subtracting...?
Bet you the GAA official don't make the same careless arithmetic blunders when they're submitting their expenses claims.

Hopefully the whole of the county can come out on June 25th to support the lads win the Christy Ring cup for the 2nd time in their history.

Up the Royals.

I think club championship should still go ahead this weekend. Would give the players a good blow-out, clear their heads of this whole mess.

Two weeks then to focus the body and mind for Antrim and hopefully an historic day in Croker for Meath

Championship should go ahead it would be good for all and you could get injured at training the same as playing for THE CLUB. It is a disgrace the respect to the club in all of this. The commitment club players are giving is huge and it hard enough to balance life and sport and now lads have to hold up for another 2 weeks at least. Croke Park and all the officials in Croke Park last week should be ashamed of themselves. Some referees ask one of there umpires or lines men to keep the score also. The pen and paper the only man. How did the PRO's or Secretaries of both Counties not notice the error also - they should have been keeping the scores.

Club games should go ahead, we're creating monsters all the time worrying this might happen and that might happen. It goes ahead in kilkenny and we should be no different in BOTH codes. I agree that it would be a welcome distraction from the circus that's gone on since saturday night, through no fault of the teams. The lads set the standard for themselves in the second half they know what's required now, Two weeks is more than enough time to prepare for games in the summer especially. I hope we finish the job!!
