Meath vs Antrim - Christy Ring Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Shambolic and embarrassing, takes the whole good out of last saturday,i believe the team could not even celebrate an historic event. This is bottom of the barrel stuff in hurling and it has been certainly treated like it too but that is no fault of either counties as they are trying to make progress in the area. But let's be really honest, what good is going into leinster going to do either team ?? The g.a.a should be working on scrapping the provisional championships. In hurling have killkenny.offaly.wexford.galway.clare.tipp.cork.waterford.dublin & limerick play each other once with the top team playing 4th and 2nd and 3rd playing each other in all-ireland semi finals.Team who finished bottom falls into christy ring with winners of christy ring coming up into liam mc carthy.laois, westmeath, carlow, meath, kildare, kerry, down, antrim etc etc play in christy ring with the same format.

Each county will get at least 7 championship matches a year and we will have closely contested games. If meath meet galway or kilkenny in leinster next year it will do them no good getting a 30 point hammering.let this other process see will it improve counties first.

Same thing in football only you would have 4 different tiers.8 counties in each.

HoganStand just tweeted that

"Meath have been informed that there will be a replay of the Christy Ring Final".

Just how accurate that is because there is no mention of it anywhere else in the media.

At least having waited a couple of days all information is now at hand including the revised Referee's report, video evidence and the rule book. Should never have happened but it did so its simply a situation that needs to be worked through and prevented from happening again. Better for the CCCC to make the right decision now based on having all information and a cool head rather than reacting impulsively to a situation.
Does raise the question again has the Referee too much to do on these big match days?

Probably the fairest outcome. I just don't understand how Antrim also did not contest it on the day. interesting to see will Meath play it

Can't see the fixture being fulfilled. Quigley is away to America this week and a few others have holidays booked.

Be interesting what statement is issued now. Madness.

Personally speaking I'd relish another opportunity for a big game like this, I said it all along that Meath had more than enough in their tanks to win it on the day and I'm even more convinced of it now. We got off to a shaky start but once we settled down to play our game we were more than a match for them, our fitness and stamina was the difference between us in the end and on another day I know we'd have a better start than we did on Saturday.
I don't know when we'd get to have a replay, club championship starts this weekend and a few of the team have already made arrangements for work and travel and a used up a lot of holiday time and work swaps to meet the hectic training schedule. This has been a huge commitment and these lads have been plugging away for two and three nights a week plus the odd Saturday and Sunday since last November, they're not professional athletes, they can't just be expected to put their lives on hold and drop everything because the GAA made a cock up.
The GAA should be ashamed for letting this happen in the first place, I sincerely hope the Co Board extracts suitable compensation from Croke Park to make up for the disappointment of this fiasco, at the very least they should make a sizeable contribution to help develop the future of Hurling in the county and stand over their prize of a team holiday, for BOTH teams.
We did nothing wrong here.

It's for Sat the 18th in Newry, which would possibly clash with a football qualifier in Derry, this shambles gets worse

They should never have given Meath the cup, they had an idea something was up.To give Meath the cup and then take it off them is wrong.

An absolute joke, personally if I was part of the panel I would go back to my club and wouldnt even consider playing the replay. Give lads that are on the managements mind regarding selection for next year aswell as the few lads that didn't get a game last weekend and make a show of the CCCC. Yes the chances are that we would get hockeyed but the lads that played last Saturday have nothing to prove and they are a credit to themselves and their clubs.

Looking out at the Antrim team last Saturday, they had no aggrievances to the scoreboard and accepted the defeat. Graciously i might add.

This is going to cause serious problems in the future and the GAA have nobody to blame only themselves! I probably will go to the replay, but it would want to be free in because I'm not giving the money-grabbing shower any more of my hard earned money...

Total disrespect for our wonderful meath hurlers by the gaa and cccc!!!!!!!! Match fixed for newry next Saturday. It took them till Tuesday morning to come up with that ------ 3 days for the meath hurlers to recover and they knowing that the team had been out celebrating and at least 4 players going abroad , they have just handed over the the Christy ring cup to Anrtim. WHERE IS OUR COUNTY BOARD??????

Is this actually a serious post or are you just thinking about what suits Meath best?

Why should Laois, Westmeath and Kerry have to come back to competing against Down, Kildare and Meath when they have all shown they are well capable of competing with Offaly and Wexford at the very least. Laois and Westmeath both hammering Offaly in the past 2 Leinster championships and Kerry beating them in the league. Do you just want to ruin these counties growth in recent years by demoting them back down to Christy Ring.

Also I cant see this been competitve either, Offaly and Wexford will take heavy beatings in the top tier and the likes of Kildare, Meath and Down will take heavy beatings in the second tier which will benefit known of these teams.

A more relastic structure with promotion/relegation and 8 teams per tier would see.
Tier 1 - Kilkenny, Galway, Dublin, Limerick, Clare, Tipp, Cork and Waterford
Tier 2 - Wexford, Offaly, Laois, Westmeath, Kerry, Carlow, Antrim, Meath
Tier 3 - Down, Kildare, London, Derry etc....

Common sense prevailed. Any other outcome and it would been a hollow victory.
