Meath v Louth

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Is there anything to be said for saying another mass????
Look at this time of year the adrenaline is normally pumping, the hope , the what ifs, the Jesus we can do this, even a Leinster would do , start kicking in, I explain to everyone how we can do it, its logical in my own mind, as anyone on here will testify I am extremely optimistic when it comes to Meath football and championship.
However this year I'm beaten down, ill be honest, I haven't gotten over the abysmal display against Westmeath and that proud record gone forever. The lowest point ever.
I will never get over it and living where I do ill never be let get over it.
So I am very 50/50 about this game, Louth are better than Westmeath and we still have same management. All I can do is worry.

Royaldunne you have to stick with your county through thick and thin. I suppose that proud record that Meath had against Westmeath that you were speaking of had to go some day. I know in 2001 and 2003 Westmeath went very close but typical Meath of the day had the never die attitude of never been beaten till the final whistle was blown. Sure I know that down through the years that no county has broken my heart more than the Royals. Forty one long years since Louth have beaten Meath in the Championship. Wee have come close a few times but just failed when it mattered when not closing out matches. With Meath been a big county and bordering many counties the Royals will have many rivalries. Louth is unique that it only borders one Leinster county so the rivalry this side of the Boyne is very special indeed and one that goes back to the forties and fifties. Living on the border I cannot wait for this one.

This is the best chance Louth have in a long while to beat Meath, if its more of the same from us then Louth will win, but hopefully management and players will step up and see us through to another shot at Dublin, As it stands its 50/50

With Mcguill out injured, think this is a big chance for Daniel O Neill to step up. Hopefully Mick O Dowd takes the chance. Looking forward to 12th June!!

Ah Ollie I know only too well the rivalry having lived in bettystown for a fair while, I will get over it (eventually) that dreaded day last year.
I am looking forward to this game immensely, but as has been said by others I feel its very 50/50. Id also say its Louth best chance in awhile to beat Meath , I'm not been disrespectful to Louth but I would say Meath have the better players marginally, however I feel Louths management would be far more astute than ours and these types of game are often won (or lost) on the sideline. So that makes me more nervous.

Not really Menton is fairly private. The line seems to be that he needed a break. But of course he won't give any different reason if any.

Ollie

What hurt me the most about the Westmeath game,is the fact that I knew Westmeath were a very ordinary side at best and that the fact that Meath were 10 points up with 20mins to go.The record didn't bother me.If we lost to a genuine good Westmeath side and didn't have such a big lead, well you would be more forgiven.

Royaldunne the Louth manager Colin Kelly managed the Cilles in 2013 so he will know Biggy Reilly all too well.

Indeed he will Ollie and id say biggy will be kept very quite, and as it seems to so often happen if Reilly has a quite day then so has all the team. If Reilly starts and plays well Meath usually win, its a strange one, also if his first couple of shots go astray then its going to be a long day.

Mcgill was poor in league and would have his hands full with grimes! Mickey Burke should go full back. Had been very impressive throughout the league

can't see Meath using that 5,500 allocation to be honest, there is complete apathy with anyone I talk to with regards to this Meath team. I will go to support the players but can't support our manager. I agree with Royaldunne, living on the Westmeath border and with so many WM cousins that defeat was a bitter and unforgiveable pill to swallow.

Ziggy,
Let Shane get a season behind himself at Simonstown without breaking down. An undoubted talent but has never been fully fit at senior level to show the talent he has on a consistent basis.
If he could get a full summer with Simonstown we could have a very handy player for 2017.

Yeah he only came on at halt time I believe. I don't think it would be the wisest move to use him this year, let him play for Simonstown this summer and if he impresses bring him in next year.

I agree with Brian, Shane is out of the picture completely for this year. I am more interested in our actual panel and how they are moving. No information again in this weeks Chronicle about challenge games, team selections etc except a rehash of the previous game vs Louth and an interview with Keoghan. I can only assume that MOD has instructed them not to report this stuff because it would be in their interest to report the latest news.

Why are challenge matches so secretive anyway?
