Full Time

Meath 0-15
Kildare 0-19

That penalty miss knocked the stuffing out of Meath.Considering the big win against Dublin, this is disappointing.

A pity we didn't avoid Kildare until the final.Even if we lost we would still be in it..

Managed to get down to the match, fairplay to both teams for putting on an entertaining game, Kildare were just that little bit better and deserved to win.

Our lads weren't too bad though, McDermott in goals made 3 outstanding saves and was very good with his kickouts in the 1st half, Kildare put him under more pressure in the second half but he still done well. Our fullback line also done well against a strong Kildare FF line and further up the field I thought Devine (wearing 9 but playing further up field) and Conlon in the FF line were excellent.

Scully was very unlucky to hit the crossbar with his peno and Kildare more less pushed on from there.

To be fair, this should have been the Leinster-final, makes no sense that the 2 unbeaten teams met in the semi final!

Kildare have had great success in underage over the past 6 years or so.It surely has to bear fruit at some stage?

What a thoroughly enjoyable game even if the result didn't go our way. The ref did his best to spoil the game at every opportunity. How he dished out so many yellow cards in a game that was as sporting as you might see. Gave Kildare 4 frees (3 in normal time) from 60/70 yards away and this was a critical factor in the outcome of the game. Unlucky to see a well struck penalty rebound of the crossbar and not getting a score from the rebound was the real turning point as Kildare got 2 points within a minute. Great crowd there who witnessed football played the right way.

How many of these player could stay minor this year and have we an under 21 champ next year?

great first half performance, played lots of long & diagonal balls which suited james conlon. but in 2nd half & in extra time we went back to short passing. also as someone else said the kick outs in 1st half were very good & found a meath man most times, but after that kildare pushed up on the kickout & we struggled, think we've talked about this before though :-)

Replying To Chaisleain_Abu:  "Great win by the Meath Minors on Saturday .An aggressive brand of attacking football is great to see from this team . Getting one over the auld enemy is a good one especially after the result in the League . I hope they go on to build on this and don't lie down thinking the jobs done . If anything Kildare will be more difficult task , but psychologically its a plus , just don't let it become a negative .
Anyone that's in the know will recall the core of this years Dublin Minors on the Gerry Reilly Squad ( U16) back in 2014 . They were beaten in the Tournament Final by Cavan U16s . Cavan Minors are languishing in Ulster at present not doing themselves justice .
Build on the Dublin win , don't believe this is a done deal . This years Dublin Minors were known to be inconsistent unlike teams of previous years .
Great to get a win over Dublin anyhow .
An Mhi Abu"
I hate to say this , but the Meath guys didn't play up to the same standard as they did against Dublin , But then again Kildare had better palyers than Dublin , with some excellent forwards .
Mental prep may have been critical here , the extra time missed penalty had a very negative effect on the rest of the team .

Doesn't make sense to me ziggy, surely the unbeaten teams should be drawn against the beaten teams in the semi's.

Thanks to the Meath Minors for representing the county proudly. They do deserve a Day out in Croke Park. Pity there is not a proper back door system which would give them such a chance or indeed a Leinster Shield final there.

Totally agree Diego, very enjoyable match alright, those frees to Kildare definitely seemed a bit soft. A few fine footballers on that team, the great thing with the way they played you could see a structure of what they were trying to do unlike the seniors.

Ultimately they were better off losing to Laois, because they would be in the final.

Folks - It was a fantatsic game - Meath could have taken it in real time but then as somebody already pointed out the keeper made a few good saves.

I think Barry Callaghan did a great job with these lads - he had them well prepared both physically and mentally. It was one of those nights where it could have gone either way. I feel very sorry for all these lads who have put in a huge amount of work over the past 9 months, training 3 times a week (while most of them were studying for their leaving cert) that they don't even get a run out in Croke Park after losing one game (and in injury time!) I know that people will be critical but nobody can be more disappointed than the people involved

The management and panel can hold their heads up - and hoepfully they can kick on to play a big part of Meath football in teh coming years.

There were 9 or ten players from the Under 17 set up drafted in to the Minor squad earlier in the year. Robbie Clarke started last night and in the previous games and has done really well. Adam Murphy and Connell Ahearne came on in the second half and did well.

The 17's are managed by Colm Coyle and Kenny Morgan - they all attended last night which was great to see. They have a good squad and are putting in a lot of work.

Thats it..

I do wonder how many are minor next year.

I would move Colm Coyle up from U17's to manage minor and move Barry Callaghan and his management team up to under 21's.
