Tormey did ok when he stuck in full forward against Tyrone. unfortunately I don't we have the luxury of playing him FF at the moment as we need his physical presents in the middle of the pitch at the moment. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1263 - 15/02/2016 14:18:36 1825523 Link 0 |
I don't see him imposing himself physically on games ....do you? I see him getting on a bit of easy ball when we break out and there's nobody around him...he's not mobile enough, and his lazy tacking style costs us. He is however a good ball winner and scorer in full forward line where he has played most of his ball. Even his club manager knows this and plays him inside but again it's MOD playing people in wrong possitions. D Tobin, Harnan, and menton if he comes back are the obvious foiles for Rooney. Douglas should be played for his physicality alone as this aspect of our game is simply put...pathetic southmeathgael (Meath) - Posts: 891 - 16/02/2016 10:05:11 1825673 Link 0 |
Tormey should be full forward or benched imo ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 16/02/2016 11:56:44 1825712 Link 1 |
Tormey mightn't be a bad option at FF, he's big, skillful but doesn't do a whole lot of work, so it's probably better to have him in there rather than out the field, I never really liked seeing him at midfield. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 16/02/2016 12:01:47 1825715 Link 1 |
It seems that once one problem has been sorted another one transpires. Last year it was lasting the full 70 this year it seems to be lack of physicality. It's a sign of the times when the likes of Cavan are physically stronger and even expected to dominate a Meath team in the physical stakes. Even if everything clicked on the day of a Leinster semi v Dublin our players wouldn't be able to live with the physicality of Connolly and Mc Manamin. 2010 is a world away when we had the likes of Ward, Sheridan and Bray. I don't see a competitive Meath team in the next 3 years and a change of Management would only paper over the cracks. Cavan will win with 3-5 to spare next Sunday. Will any of the UCD lads be called up? GlasgowRoyal (Meath) - Posts: 293 - 21/02/2016 10:37:07 1826879 Link 0 |
As far as I know there are 5 Meath lads on the ucd panel, 3 of whom saw no game time in the Sigerson. Harnan and McEntee are already on the Meath team and of the rest Niall O'Reilly is with the 21's, Colm Honan 3rd choice keeper with O'Mahonys and Fiachra Ward is decent but not exceptional with the Tones. Now I don't think any of the 3 not already on the Meath set up are good enough to to be drafted in. jackhackett (Meath) - Posts: 773 - 21/02/2016 14:31:17 1826934 Link 0 |
Is Harnan injured? He didn't play in the semi's or the final. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 21/02/2016 15:14:52 1826943 Link 1 |

Yes bobkarlgees, I agree. The Meath Co. Board like other co boards are in competition with other sports / activities for the patrons / young players etc. Good communication is a big part of this especially when the footballers (and hurlers) are doing badly. We want the dads to be bringing the young lads & lassies to these games and discussing the games etc so to help keep an interest and enthusiasm from the next generation. oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 22/02/2016 10:18:44 1827127 Link 0 |
Totally agree with previous posters regarding the lack of information on injuries etc just as a pr exercise, however I can see the flip side regarding if your player is fit but opponents still thinking he injured can give you a advantage on game day. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 22/02/2016 14:13:09 1827206 Link 0 |

That could also work in our favour royaldunne. Post up fake information and get the other teams thinking they'll have it handy. begining (UK) - Posts: 300 - 22/02/2016 17:38:31 1827294 Link 0 |

I agree on the privacy issue. What right have I to demand regular updates on what is effectively someones medical information? CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1646 - 23/02/2016 12:45:20 1827448 Link 0 |
Ah lads, I take on board there might be privacy issue. I am not asking for recent bloods tests and what clinics they are attending. Just a simply update ie Adam Flanangan has leg injury and its expected to out for the Season. And then maybe a monthly update on his progress or lack there of. If he has a problem with disclosing that fine publish the ones that are fine with it. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1263 - 24/02/2016 10:33:53 1827681 Link 0 |
I agree Bob, sure the premiership managers in England are giving press conferences every second day. I am not saying that that is right or that we can match them as they are professional etc. However, the GAA is in competition with other sports for participants, attendees, funding etc and in this day and age communication is very important. Information on recent challenges is also of interest but maybe management want to keep that sort of stuff under wraps. oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 24/02/2016 10:40:12 1827683 Link 0 |

Lads, given that it's like pulling teeth to get MOD to release a team to the media on a weekly basis, hoping for injury updates is ambitious in the extreme! BarneysTie (Meath) - Posts: 258 - 24/02/2016 11:51:03 1827709 Link 0 |
