What are the thoughts on our county hurlers chances this weekend?

With Kildare gone up a division, and Antrim back down in the Christy Ring I think Meath must throw the kitchen sink at the League this year. Meaths only realistic shot at silverware in my opinion. Should be aiming to put up a score against Wicklow and kick on from there.

Wishing them all the best for the campaign ahead. Any know of any additions to the panel from the Walsh Cup?

Deja vu with the hurlers, our fifth year in division 2B, losing 3 of the last 4 finals. Main rivals for promotion will be Down and Wicklow. Wicklow shouldn't be great, but they've proven me wrong several times in the last few years so we still need to throw everything at them. If we beat Wicklow we've one foot in the final, barring some utter disaster against the likes of Donegal Mayo and Armagh.

We should be beating Donegal easily enough. Mayo will make life awkward and work hard, but we should still have too much for them. Not sure how we lost to Armagh last year but I can't see lightning striking twice. We play Down in Ballycran in the last game, I'd say our approach to that depends on if we've a place in the final or not. Not a nice place to have to go when you need a win.

Suppose we'll have to see how we get on against Wicklow before making any big predictions.

Should be good enough to get out of this division, had some good runouts in the Walsh cup against higher level opposition. Down in Ballycran will be the decider, we have a dreadful record playing them there as well.

He will be roaming around and wont be a firm wing back.. Joey Keena will drop out to leave room for the two lads up top to use their speed.. good few changes in positions..

Ah yeah makes sense I suppose. Hopefully that inside forward line get plenty of ball.

yea I would hope so too.. think meath will flood the halfback line and midfield and leave 4 forwards.. Cant see wickla posing too much hassle.. the Walsh cup should have been a good shake out for the lads and the few who were playing colleges. Plus J.Toher is out injured so he will be a starter once back...

Are Burke or Douglas on the panel?

no burke and douglas are staying with the footballers for the remainder of the league for the minute, however if the don't get game time I would say they will join up with the hurlers..

Well, you can safely bet Burke will be getting game time with the footballers, and Douglas is doing very well so far on the football so I'd be surprised to see him back hurling.

What should be a good Wicklow team has been severely depleted today, due to a row over the captaincy. I can only see a Meath win, otherwise we would be talking about a close game. The person talking about 'racking up a huge score against Wicklow' should remember Wicklow-Meath clashes where both are at full compliment are usually tight affairs. That was a bit disrespectful. Today will be one-sided due to the dispute in our camp.

Meath 0-22 Wicklow 0-13. Clear decisive win for Meath. Positives for Wicklow were the fact that this team was the backboned by the U21 side which won the All Ireland in Thurles. As a result of the dispute over the captaincy Wicklow were down several of their top players. Good luck in the rest of the campaign.

Good win even if Wicklow were without some of their regulars, hopefully push on from there.
Wicklowman: This row over the cap has been rumbling on for a while. What exactly is the background to it and is it a case of someone throwin' the toys out of the pram!

Interested to hear people's opinions on the non Meath players being fielded. If it helps the team to develop I have no problems with it.

Yeah I have to say that the report from hoganstand/meath pro on the game was top notch. Yet again you would think the hurlers weren't even playing at the weekend..

Hammersly is great addition with a serious CV. Our own lads could learn a lot from him, our chances of winning silverware increase with him involved. Other tipp lad is ok.

The 3 dubs don't get games with their clubs in Dublin, wouldn't get on the kiltale/kildalkey/kilmessan team in Meath, why are they taking up panel space and denying some of our own talent the chance to tog out for Meath?

The three dubs I must agree aren't cutting it at all, whenever I've seen them they've been very poor. Hammersly and Sherlock however seem to be strong hurlers which will bring a bit of class to the side and also take some pressure of the likes of Toher, Keoghan, Healy etc to deliver and allow them to be more free. Personally hope Heffernan hits form as when he is going is he absolutely unstoppable and a great goal getter.

How did Heffernan play the other day.. Notice he didn't score.. Joey Keena must have been on fire.

Moylagh, Martin Storey is the new manager and he decided to do away with the tradition that the county champions automatically get the captaincy. Bray Emmetts are champions. This hasn't gone down well with the contingent.
