No real upsets at the weekend.

Two things I noticed from the games I attended

1. Attendances seem way down. Probably due to the increase in admission prices. Record attendances last year, if it's not broke why try fix it? Granted the increased €3 per punter probably made up for the spectators that didn't attend but it would be far better for the atmosphere to have more people there at a cheaper price. Would increase revenue in the GAA clubhouses and local shops too.

2. Refereeing. I think all referees in Meath bar the few top intercounty refs we have are very whistle happy. They are all refereeing the game fairly but it seems they're trying to referee the physicality out of the game. A forward running through a packed defense is nearly guaranteed a free or a chance to shoot. Lay a hand on the the man or go to him with a shoulder and you'll be punished by the referee. And people wonder why our county team struggle when teams run at us?

Anyone else share any similar opinions?

Went to watch trim vs ultans in martry yesterday. Brought my dad and my girlfriend so it set me back 24 euro. It really made me angery as the facilities for suupporters at 90% of the gounds in meath is terrible. Even the tea we got in the styro cup was undrinkable and i jjust wonder what the gate receipts go to.. Obviously it goes to the clubs but what to the supporters get out of it bar being robbed.. County board is like the men on the gates waiting with their biscuit tins for another handout.

Oh and trim beat ultans but was a terrible standard...

Joking aside, this was entirely predictable. The pricing for the last couple of years has been just about right. Now, I know the weather was awful yesterday which probably didn't help attendances, but €8 is plainly too much and will put off a lot of fans who aren't involved with the clubs involved in any given game, but just go along out of interest in club football. Those people would tend to go to a lot of games, but I would imagine they are thinking twice now & picking and choosing what games to go to this year.

Well last year you could go to two games at the weekend for 10 euro now its one game for 8..

I went to Summerhill and Rataoth and although I tipped Summerhill,they were very lucky.Ratoath will only get better,they were missing McMahon,E.Wallace and Power went off injured.

Be heading to Navan this Saturday,surely they can't charge any more than a tenner for a Junior intermediate double header?
Hard to judge that attendance in down after 1 wknd and with poor weather but I do expect the price hike to affect in the long run.
Pretty staight forward in all 3 grades no major shocks, couple of bigger win margins than expected but that's it

The games I was at at the weekend I had to say the stand out performances were Colmcilles and Trim, thought they were very impressive even though the opposition was dreadful on both counts. Kells did what they were expected to do without setting the world alight! The shocks for me were Oldcastle and Dunderry, not sure Cortown beating Ballivor could be classed as a shock!

I was there yeah lively...tends to drift in and out of the game at times but has electrifying pace and accurate too! Surely worth another run on the Meath team, same could be said for James Toher...absolutely outstanding yesterday!

No upsets at the weekend.
Few things I noticed.

1- Attendances are down. across the board. The powers that be should bring back the 5e attendance for the next round in May. Well able to dismiss more practical ideas. costs same to watch Stephen Bray and a Junior D player. That is not right. Money isnt everything. You want people and neutrals to go to games and not be put off by the price.

2- A lot of one sided games. Dunboyne hammered Duleek, Ultans hammered by Trim, Ballinlough hammered by Kells, Blackhall well beaten by Skryne, Colmcilles beating syddan well. Simply put there are too many bad teams in the grades in the championships. Teams that should be down a grade. This weekend has shown the decision to abandonen the new structure is utter madness. The championship is stagnant. Boring. No chance of upsets.

Irish_downunder- The clubs get 10-to 15% of the gate, someone might give an exact answer. The county board collect the main revenue from the gates. The clubs are usually left with the inconvenience of hosting championship games, organise officials, stewards etc. The price increase is a kick in the stones to clubs who try and maximize the revenue through undrinkable cups of tea or the odd couple of pints if available. The ice cream man will have a tough summer.

Mattimoe was wing forward and Toher was centre forward....a position Meath are not exactly blessed with great options!
As I said above, Trim were excellent but Ultans were shocking. They were 4-0 up after 10 minutes and then just collapsed...

Trim were the better team no doubting that, Ultans collapse wasnt unlike that of Spieth on sunday after dumping two into Rays creek.
