Fermanagh v Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Tobin deserves the start given his impact the last day. His physicality is an addition and if he can find himself in the right place at the right time, then his left boot will pose a real threat to Fermanagh. Biggy should be fine to play but I hope we're not overly reliant on him. We played well as a team against Armagh and should continue in this vein.

ya Tobin deserves his start, but does tend to do better coming off the bench, big chance for him,I hope he takes it.Obviously when the ground gets harder,I would like to see at least one of Wallace and McMahon start.Wallace works very well with a fit Newman.

Yes I agree that Tobin deserves to start. Good team overall, I also would have liked to see Douglas or Tormey getting a run in defence, I am not convinced about Finn - he seems to only hand pass the ball. I would hope also that Eamonn Wallace gets a decent run in the second half on Sunday.

I've always been of the opinion that Tobin didn't deserve to be in there but in fairness to the lad this year he has upped his game, deserves his start, big opportunity for him to stake a claim. I've been forced to eat my words regarding Tobin.

Would also like to see Douglas in given the nod ahead of Finn too.

yep good team. Need to kick on now as that is nearly full strength with what we have. Without a shadow of doubt they should have too much in the tank for Fermamagh. If they play to their potential they will win. It is time for the team and manager to put some trust back into the county team. Should win by +3

finally....mcentee played in his more natural position. he plays in forwards for his club, at u21, with his college too. with nos 15 on his back for ucd during o byrne cup he ran riot against meath in simonstown . common sense finally prevails

Looking forward to this one. A must win game for both sides, perhaps for different reasons. I feel if we can get the win, I feel we can push on in the division and challenge for promotion. If we lose, we won't be playing Div.1 football next year.

Agree with other comments about not being overly reliance on biggy. Hope we can continue to play as a team and that he can be integrated back in smoothly. A good sign would be if we have equal spread of scorers from play, not biggy scoring 5/6 points. No need to give it to him and let him run, everybody needs to take on responsibility and hopefully lads start to become leaders in their own right. If that attitude could permeate thought we would hopefully never see a collapse like w/meath last year, aswell as Monaghan and Cavan away games in league in recent years.

Looks like a good strong team. I would have liked to see Tormey or Douglas given a chance, but I can understand why he went for The experience of Mickey Burke.
The half forward line of Reilly, O'Sullivan and McEntee looks pretty exciting and if we get enough ball in the middle, they could cause Fermanagh a lot of problems.
My only worry is that it almost looks like too attacking a line-up. If Fermanagh get a grip in the middle, I am not sure we have enough extra cover from the forwards helping out. McEntee will probably drop back a bit, as should Andrew Tormey. But it generally looks like a side that is designed to go for it.
Should be an interesting game. Unfortunately I'll be working so won't be able to make the trip. I'll just have to stay glued to LMFM and hope to hear snippets of the game in amongst their likely extended coverage of Louth's match.

Looks a very strong team, only worries would be Harnan and tormey but hopefully they can find a bit of form. Some serious potential firepower there. Lets hope it clicks.

Looks a decent team. More strength around the middle where it's badly needed. I think Tobin deserves his start, but I wasn't surprised he didn't stat the last day. Mc Mahon never got going at all e seemed to light on the day. Tobins is not afraid to shoot he can take a score form distance and he is physical strong. So he will be suited to Sunday game as it wont be a day for smaller player. I taught he did ok when he came on the last day some nice frees but there was a gale behind him. He has at least two rushes of the blood to head every game with a wild kicks to nowhere. Long term I would be looking further a field. He needs more composure on the ball interesting to how he gets on he could be decent impact player.

i think this game is a real banana skin for us we have a strong team picked but remember are away record in the league has been terrible last few seasons and fermanagh were a top 8 team last year by getting to quarter final its nice to see most posters get behind the team by saying they think we will win or we should win but im not so sure i hope we win and i do think we have a good chance but i would not be taken fermanagh for granted and to be honest i dont really like it when a lot of people on here are so confident

Huge game for the lads as a marker of progress, would dearly love to see a win on the road, especially in a dogfight on wet blustery Sunday in Enniskillen.

I'd be quietly confident (no more), based on the strong team selection and provided they play to their potential. However, the levels of motivation of players (and not just in Meath) can vary greatly from game to game. I cannot see as much appetite for an away game vs. Fermanagh as a home game vs. Armagh. With the rugby on, the attendance and atmosphere at the match may not be all that inspiring either. The five games against Armagh, Fermanagh, Cavan, Tyrone (at home) and Laois are must wins to push for/secure promotion. Drop any points and it means we would need to pick up something in Galway and/or Derry. We do not want away day blues in Enniskillen.

One thing I've noticed this year is a more hungry and motivated group of players. They're playing with a bit of much needed steel and grit which has been absent from the O'Dowd era prior to this. But yes, this test in Enniskillen will reveal a lot about the mental attitude of all involved. Looking forward to it.

The timing and contribution of the subs will be the winning or losing of the game imo

Id agree with glas and cool here. This is going on recent form the strongest team we have got and in their best positions, if we are to push for promotion and avoid looking at relegation zone, then this is one we have to be winning .
There does seem to be a bit more grit and bite to the team, buy we all no biggy is going to be double marked and tightly at that too, but a proper ball and he will break the tackle or get foiled, think this game is set up for Tobin. Subs will be important, Rooney by all accounts should boss midfield and paddy who has improved needs to be very accurate. But I am happy with team and I think we should win, no more excuses

Good team named, Tobin deserves his place after last week and Biggy was always going to start when fit. Lenihan will have to pull the socks up because he's not going to get too many more chances and I have to say, the half back lin worries me, they all need solid performances aswell.

Douglas can once again consider himself unlucky, again he's a big physical lad who's not afraid of a hit and I wouldn't mind seeing him getting a chance.

Anyway, this is also a game I'd expect us to win if we have serious ambitions in the squad to push for promotion and I think we might just sneak it. Of course if we don't win it's basically curtains for promotion given the remaining fixtures.

Htaem - I would agree with your post and add there at least 2 maybe 3 better defenders who are not starting and time will tell on that. Incidently I would play Harnen in the same position as he plays in, for UCD. I do think this is winnable - just about! as Enniskillen is not an easy place to go and win. I will add that I think the most difficult assignment will be the trip to Derry (which is not relevant at this stage).

I'd be hopeful of winning but not over confident ahead of Sunday.

We've got to remember that in the championship last year Fermanagh beat two counties that over the season we lost to - Roscommon and Westmeath.

They're unbeaten in their last 10 matches in Brewster Park as well and with Eoin Donnelly at midfield will be confident of getting the better of us in that sector. Add in the threat up front of Corrigan and Quigley and there's plenty we need to be concerned about.

Also while I was delighted with the win last Sunday it does concern me that we only managed one score from play in the second half when we played with the advantage of a strong wind and this came from a corner back.

A repeat of this on Sunday and it'll be a long drive home for us all.

All that said I'd be hopeful of winning by a point or two. Hopeful but no more than that.
