Leinster club 2015

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

There is a divisional system in place in Cork (county is split into 7 divisions)) where intermediate and junior teams from each division can come together to form a senior team in both football/hurling.
It works with some divisions but not with all. Can depend if intermediate/junior teams have a chance of county honours not all clubs happy to release their players. Gets very political with all clubs putting their own interest first-which is understandable. I was involved with one divisional side for a while, never again way too much hassle. Never sure who would turn up for training/games. Personally would not be in favour of it. Also with focus now on player burn out/injury do they really need this extra training and games?
Some poster suggested there was little between intermediate and senior in Meath, well in Cork teams that go up usually do ok and those that drop often struggle to get back to senior

Its difficult to come up with any scenario that would give life to the club system that was developed so long ago and has not changed significantly in all that time. I would love to see something radical tried in the future even on a trial basis just to spice it up and give a bit of bite to the proceedings. Imagine a Louth Meath Club Championship or an Offaly Laois championship etc. It happens in all other sports where county borders do not exist. A number of years ago Dublin introduced new thinking to compete in the schools hurling championship- a combined colleges team. This was the start of Dublin becoming a strong competitive county in hurling. It was a radical move but it worked. We need some radical thinking in Meath as we are losing our best athletes to other sports.

Richieq

Ah in fairness Richieq, it wouldn't be fair to mention club names or the levels they're playing at. But again it has to be said that the club name can be an issue for some people, and I understand that to be honest, although personally it wouldn't be a huge issue for me.

Yes I acknowledge that and wouldn't name them although in fairness it's been openly talked about for some time, equally the name wouldn't be an issue for me but more importantly the future of a club and the ability to enhance and improve their players would be an issue. I think there are several scenarios where clubs are refusing to think of amalgamating due to pride over the name or past history or success which they have little or no chance of being repeated and players are suffering as a result, not reaching their potential or maximising their abilities which of course has a knock on affect at county level. I would think its time that several clubs decided to do what's best not just for themselves but for the county in general and in certain cases come together to form bigger clubs, amalgamations have worked in the county before and I feel it's time to have a few more

Great win for Ratoath wasn't expecting it to be as straight forward as that but very much deserved, great to have a Leinster Final to look forward to

Fantastic performance. The first half was a devastating display of football against an extremely strong wind to lead 3-6 to 1-3. Bobby O'Brien was phenomenal yet again. Got some hefty treatment from Castledermot players at times but never reacted to it, got two goals and was an exceptional playmaker throughout. Leinster final to look forward to. We'll play Athlone in Mullingar on Saturday week. All support would be greatly appreciated on the day.

Curraha make thw Leinster Junior final where they'll play St. Brigid's Killashee of Longford in Pearse Park. They played a good portion of the game once again with 14 men.

As an aside, NOM's conquerors Killoe were beaten by 16 points by Portlaoise.
