When is next county board meeting?

Is this when announcement of selectors can be expected?

Heard from a few sources that Martin O'Connell and Brendan Murphy are the chosen two. My theory is that O'Connell's appointment won't be made known until St. Michaels involvement in the intermediate championship has ended...

Does anyone want this position? Why the delay in naming them, these men should be attending games and getting to know current and future squad members. Just doesn't feel right

Brendan Murphy has been part of MOD's backroom team from the outset as the goalkeeping coach. Is he making the step up to selector? Should he not be looking for new people to freshen things up?

Yes, lets hope that they identified something in Murphy and that it's not a case of asking one of the guys within the setup already that hadnt quit. On the one hand Murphy has experience in the professional soccer game in England a number of years ago but on the other hand I dont think he has been a selector /manager at any stage.

Here's hoping that they are good choices.

I'd love to be a selector royaldunne, first training session would go something like this:

Not a lot to be honest,I doubt much thought was out into it,I mean Murphy was an easy choice less hassle involved there..

It's hard to know what to expect from the two new selectors. Hopefully the pair can give Micko a bit of a boost on the tactics side of things. Its an appointment which gives me optimism, but not confidence. I know Murphy won't get care about what club a player plays for, and will scour every club looking for potential.

Saying this I wish them both the best as I know they only want the best for Meath.

Not exactly men that have been at the coalface of Meaths success...for a county that was so successful over two decades, I think its genuinely shocking that no personalities from those glory years are involved to inspire and educate the current crop of senior players. Where are they all? You wouldn't see it in Kerry or Dublin. And they were all intelligent men...O'Rourke, McEntee, Lyons, Coyle, Hayes, Giles, Cormac Murphy, Dowd, Callaghan, Fay etc, no fools. There must be genuine disillusionment amongst these men with Meath officaldom at county board level that none of these people have carried on the traditions of Meath football to the next generation.

Cringian. They are not wanted. Look GG would jump at the chance but mod would feel threatened, you cant be better than him or have a voice. I wish the two lads well, i know very little about McCabe apart from his time with hill, Murphy was a excellent keeper

Sounds great but all those guys you have mentioned would bring absolutely nothing to the set up as football is a completely different game now to what they know.

I strongly believe that there are way to many Past stars involved with clubs and underage set up's and they are fixed on playing the old ways. There is no such thing as beautiful football anymore.

I wish them all the best, I'll be delighted if they can add to this current set up but I can't help but feel indifferent to their appointments. MOD is still the man running the show and as such things will still go his way, I don't think new selectors are going to change that much but hopefully they can bring some fresh ideas in, we'll wait and see.

Well Crinigan, we can blame Mick O'Dowd for a lot of things but he certainly has no responsibility for persuading ex Meath greats from returning to the fold. Up to recent weeks I would have given my right arm for McEntee to be involved but his comments regarding hurling (which were never retracted) were in very poor form and he and O'Rourke have had plenty of opportunities to indicate interest.
There seems to now be a policy managers working with under 16 to minor teams which is welcome.

Overall, I am reasonably happy with the selectors. Declan McCabe seems to have been a shrewd manager with Summerhill and Brendan Murphy has good experience albeit specialist as a goalie. I think we would be shooting ourselves in the foot if we were to restrict our selectors to those that had won with Meath though it would be great if more of those individuals got involved.

What are you on about, does Murphy not fit into your category of a worthy player?? Last night Barry Callaghan, one of those you mention, was ratified as minor manager for 2016, Mick Lyons had already been a selector under Boylan, Colm Coyle was manager for two years, Tommy Dowd served as selector, Trevor Giles just departed as selector, Colm O'Rourke has been Under 21 manager and is part of the committee looking to future set ups as is Gerry McEntee. Anyway those you mention owe nothing to Meath and between playing and coaching have given everything to the cause, we can't depend on them all the time nor should we.
