As a matter of interest which players would you choose to look at?

That's all well and good but the top 3 teams in intermediate are generally better than the bottom teams in senior so the standards clearly overlap. Ratoath, Nobber and Colmciles would be well able to compete with a lot of senior clubs. If you only nurture talent from big established senior clubs obviously the players from smaller clubs won't progress. Identifying the potential and nurturing is the objective not just taking players who can play at a level (senior) that they've always played.

That being said some of the names mentioned are indeed not up to senior IC standard, I'd agree with you there.

If I was manager I would not care who plays for what club,if they are good enough they are good enough.

Out of the minor side Ronan Jones and Thomas O'Reilly impressed me a lot more than Conor Nash..

I actually didn't even see him at minor level, seen him 3 times this year at dunboyne senior games I happened to be at and he was phenomenal, and current county lads were bouncing off him, along with his physique he's very balanced intelligent footballer

Ziggy, Douglas is about 25 / 26, very fast and links the play well. Played a holding role for Meath juniors this year and was afaik playing well in the final before he was sent off for an innocuous challenge.

1769891 Interesting to observe that not one of the HS "team of the week" were on the county team versus Westmeath and Tyrone. It shows up these statements that you regularly hear that there are no other players outside the panel. In fairness to Mick O'Dowd he has tried a lot of players over the 3 years.

I think that players that are close to their peak age wise should generally be considered and very young players only if they are exceptional talents and/ or are physically strong. Sean Tobin probably should have been used more during this season.

Regarding new names, Alan Douglas and James Toher from Trim are worth considering in my opinion. Both are on the county hurling team.Chris O'Connor and Alan Forde should also be asked back again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the above Tobin and Donal Lenihan were bought brought on during the tyrine match

I've been doing some stats on team of the week all through the chmapionship on who's in them etc
The following are the only players to have been selected twice
Davy Dalton
Donal Lenihan
Stephen Sheppard
Peter O'Connell
David McLoughlin

So maybe there's a few names for Micko to look at. I know its nothing scientific and doesn't regard the grade etc but there ye go. Debate away lads...

If ye's want any other info let me know and I'll tell ye..

The team of the week, from one website, from one single round of the championship AFTER meath got knocked out is a very poor indicator of choosing talent in the county. The likes of Billy Jones and Grant Holt have made premier league teams of the week, should they have been in England's 2014 WC squad based on that?

Castle Bravo, fair point. I was just pointing out that none of those 15 players started those games vs Westmeath and Tyrone and, by implcation, none of the players starting those championship games ended up on the team. Not saying that selection on one team of week makes you a county prospect, of course it doesnt.

I think Donal lenihan can really step up next year and get on that senior team has is it all but let's see how he gets on in the important champ games dunboyne have coming up. Also with micko on for another year or two will that mean we won't see Alan forde and players like that making themselves available ?
Conor Downey of Na fianna should be tried been one of the better players in champ so far. Also from Na fianna Dan queeney how has he never even been given a chance when you see other players play o Byrne cup games and then be dropped he needs to be given a chance.

head4dblackspot- in regards to that comment i think bobby should be in the senior set up he's better than 2 of his clubmates that are currently there

also ziggy i think 2 keepers from your own club are better than burlingham seeing as they kept him from Meath u21s team the last 2 years

would like to see more of Donal Lenihan as he has been racking up big scores in championship games. would like to see alan forde and sean curran be brought back into the senior set up as both are up there with best club footballers in the county

Agree about Seán Curran. Think he was our next best option at corner back after Keogan. Lenehan certainly has to be given a chance (he was never going to be able to shine in the horrible weather in Omagh as a substitute).
As for Bobby O'Brien, I feel he definitely has the talent to be on the panel and when he plays well, we (Ratoath) play well. However (and I mean no disrespect to the lad), I would have doubts over his temperament.
