Alternatives to MOD

The 3 wise men would be best placed to advise and interview this person. I trust that because they have the best interest of Meath football at heart ,they will not allow any politics get in the way. Perhaps they might start by looking at the requirements for the job,and possibly suggest assisting Micko by bringing in the required help as a possible alternative option also.

Ziggy That is the question ! A cynic would say that it is no more than a window dressing exercise. I am surprised that there is no apparent impact or influence from 3 men who without doubt can see the current gravity of the situation.

I would like to see if Anthony Molyes could be coaxed into a management role, or see If he could be persuaded take charge of a team or becoming a Meath selector. I know a manager should be picking his own selectors. But I would like to see some sort of a plan in place to bring through possible managers through. Not just waiting until waiting until we are manger-less, then start looking. We should be teeing possible up mangers all the time. Not picking green horns like MOD and saying away go there.

elguapo- if you bothered to read carefully from the start of the thread, you would see that it was started last summer, after Meath had been dumped out of the championship. At that stage, Mick O'Dowd's term as Meath manager had ended, and he hadn't yet been reappointed.
So in that context, it was a perfectly valid thread to start, questioning who would be suitable to replace him.
You could argue that discussing it at this stage of the season is a little unfair on MOD, but starting the thread in the first place was perfectly acceptable.

Also enough of the nonsense of this website not stooping any lower. The standards of moderation on here are pretty strict (far too strict in my humble opinion), and most things that are even remotely controversial are fairly swiftly removed, or are never put up in the first place.

bert09- now now!!!saying nasty thinks about our near neighbours, sure they get millions to tog out their team in blue, every Sunday in summer, in Croke Park. Anyway serious though- I would not have most of the names listed as the majority have done nothing effective in terms of management and the outside managers listed are no great shakes either.

MOD is fast running out of time, hopefully for Meath (and himself) he can turn it around. Improving pitches may be some help, must feel under serious pressure, don't envy him , Cavan game is a make or break

The boy Bert.. 100% agree. Apparently when Dublin play you're only allowed on the Hill if you have a tattoo or a moustache.

Too true. And don't get me started on the state of their men!

A combination of graham Geraghty Andy McEntee and one of or both Moyles Harnan

This thread was made when MOD 3 year tenure was up and it was undecided at the time if he was going to be reinstated or the job given elsewhere so the thread was made as a valid discussion.

MOD since has been reinstated as the manager and as supporters it is our job to support him, not to talk about him and the potential successors that could be taking over! I think the discussion of different potential managers on the county profile while MOD is the manager is disrespectful to the man, I will not be commenting on this thread after this comment.

I couldn't really see McEntee and Geraghty going into management together. I see both of them as the type that would want to be head dog, rather than working under someone else. If you look at it objectively, McEntee has a far better CV than Geraghty, so would have to be the one in charge. Would Geraghty settle for that?
To be honest your suggestion smacks a bit of knowing that McEntee is the better candidate for the (non-existant) job, but still wanting to crowbar Geraghty in there somewhere. Your obsession with Geraghty as manager is really not healthy.

I suspect Moyles might be the sort of person who likes to talk and write about the problems in Meath football, without actually getting stuck in and doing something about it. A bit like Bernard Flynn or Colm O'Rourke. To be fair, O'Rourke has at least made some effort over the years, without actually getting very far.

Unclefester its our right as supporters of the Meath Team , too discuss if he is up to the task or not. In my opinion he never was. Average club manager should not get one of the biggest intercounty manger spots in the country regardless of club championships. A county like meath should have installed a candidate with a proven record or someone who had been involved with the minor/u21 meath teams.

And I would bet my house that he couldn't care less about what is discussed on these silly forums.

Out possibilities I can think of:
James Horan is an interesting one.
How about Pat Gilroy, and yes I know he's a Dub so don't start. Probably wouldn't be interested anyway!
Luke Dempsey, was interested in doing the job previously.
John Maughan, John O'Mahony: Both have good records
Oisin McConville: Untried at this level but does great work in Cross.
Peter Canavan: Unlikely to be tempted away from Tyrone, but worth talking to.
John Evans: Worked with Banty so has some familiarity with the scene in Meath. Didn't work out in Ros for whatever reason but made progress with them and previously Tipp.

Some good names there, though I'm not sure how willing most of them would be. I know we like to think it, but Meath manager isn't exactly a marquee job. Even when there are managerial vacancies, I don't really hear big names putting themselves out there. I'd love to have the likes of Horan involved, but I'd say we could expect a lot more than a €3 euro admission fee increase if they were to get involved. These lads are used to big money set ups, and we don't seem to have the fiscal clout the likes of Dublin, Kerry or Mayo have.

I regret posting that now. It's pretty bad form to be talking about the next manager when the current one is still in charge.
