Meath U21 Hurling

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Not a bit of it -- if approached properly. All players involved want their All Ireland medal. Those lads have all played together from underage up. Some of lads mentioned and presently playing lost an Minor B All Ireland final a few years ago to Kerry. To improve Meath hurling fortunes they have to play their best players and stop this non sensible approach.
Most of these lads nowadays go on these summer breaks and good luck to them. Their peers don't have any problem with it. Winning an All Ireland is about campaigns, years of effort not just one or 2 isolated games.
Lads who are at home and are threatened if they play with county hurlers now that's a bigger problem that needs addressing.

Great win today. Might not have played to they're best but there is more in this team. All Ireland Final v Wicklow in Thurles live on TG4, great boost to these young hurlers. About time that there is positivity from the hurling fraternity in the county and hopefully everybody gets behind this team and support them on sat 12th Sept, that includes the Countyboard.

Just looking at the master fixture planner, there is SHC and IHC quarter finals on the planner for the weekend of the All Ireland U21
hurling final !!! How is this going to work ? The final is on Saturday the 12th , are the players expected to play for their clubs the next day ?
it is not often our county reaches an All Ireland final in any grade , the players and management need the players to be focused on the U21 final that week without distractions.
The county board need to support the U21 hurling management and players in their preparation for this final.
Anyone any opinions on this ?

I would hope that this will be rectified in the next few days. Each of these lads are key players for the respective senior club teams.

Although would it surprise you if the County Board let the fixtures run as planned. I am still under the opinion that we need our own CB or association. I Know that funding may not allow for it, but it is not like we are getting that much from the current set up anyway. Sorry for going off topic there but the CB's backing of the hurlers in this county seriously ticks me off sometimes.

As is stands all senior hurling championship games will take place on the Sunday. Absolute disgrace if this goes ahead. The intensity of the final will be enormous and to expect lads to come out the next day and get the same from their bodies is impossible and shouldn't be asked of the lads involved

I absolutely hate the use of the word 'disgrace' to refer to everything and anything in the GAA, but this really would be disgraceful if they went ahead with the hurling qfs the day after the final. Looking at the lads so far they're likely to leave everything on the pitch in Thurles on the 12th, then have a long trip home. You can hardly expect them to play again after that.

Also a bit of an elephant in the room but I'll say it anyway. Imagine the best case scenario, that they do win. The first U21 title in years, probably the first all Ireland for lots of those lads, and possibly even the last for some of them too. Are you honestly telling me they're saying a bunch of 20/21 year old will be told to go home and get to bed early for a good night's sleep, just hours after winning an f-in all Ireland title?

Also I would highly doubt that if one of the Hurling strongholds managed to get their u21 footy team to an All Ireland, they would have a round of club fixtures the following day. Got to love being from meath

The C.C.C are the body that organise the fixtures in Meath for football and hurling, and to be fair do a good job and usually common sense prevails with them. The hurling people have a man that sits on this committee but he is only one voice.
Today is the day this problem needs to be highlighted as the CCC sits down tonight to confirm fixtures.
Hogan Stand, how about a bit of national coverage on the issue that may present itself???

SHC Q/F Sat 19/9 at 2.30pm Athboy Trim v Blackhall
And the second Q/F Dunboyne v Killyon (More attractive of the two fixtures) at awkward time am on morning of All Ireland SF final. Why not play at the same throw in time as Croker
and make sure nobody can go. Could both not have been played Saturday afternoon and keep Sunday free to see or go to big match?
What are our Hurling and Development Committee doing to help promote hurling by allowing this kind of fuddled fixture making?
It seems nothing but they like to have excuses to blame somebody else instead of being proactive.

They were both over the 2 days until a change last night. Makes perfect sense to have them both Sat.

Both Senior Quarter finals are saturday 19th in Pairc Tailteann to allow Meath U-21 players prepare for they're clubs after they're All Ireland Final the previous week. Don't know what some people are complaining about when obviously they dont know full fixtures. I think CCC has being very fair to U-21 hurling players and they're clubs.

Right all you Meath Hurling supporters! Are you going to Thurles to support the U21 team in ths final on Saturday ?
By Car or Bus Thurles is a handy 2 hour spin from the hurling area in Meath (20 radius of Trim)
By train from Dublin 1 HOUR 30MINUTES !
Is your Club organising a bus ? If not Why Noy ?
Time to stand up and be counted !!!!
