Meath 1967 For me the position of manager became fully vacant when we were beaten by Tyrone, and thus MOD'S term expired. In fact it was clear long before that we needed someone else in the job. So it was not a surprise vacancy. There was/is a window of opportunity for any suitable candidate for the job. Two things happened in my view that did not put the future of Meath football to the forefront......The steering group of 3 wise men seemed to remain silent on the issue ,AND the CB blundered badly by recommending Mod for another term rather than wait for full discussion. . I absolutely agree with you that did not help matters. However, Wicklow CB took the same line with MCGEE and delegates put a stop to that.I wont be surprised if our delegates do the same. Meanwhile ,i can understand any potential candidate hesitating, and waiting for developments as you say.

I agree with Meath1967 on this, the fact that the board want a vote on MOD and want him in has made it awkward for interested parties to say they are interested. The board have essentially blocked this for now..

Yeh But i dont believe there are too any interested parties anyway .If they were they would find a way to make it known by now. Maybe that influenced the CB in their decision. If we had a more talented panel we might have more takers. It is a very long haul now with whoever !

I reckon a lot of people would be interested in the job,and if MOD does not get in,you will see that....

Then i will be surprised if that happens. Whilst we may have applicants,i would want someone who is equipped to meet the requirements of the job nowadays as distinct from just another person who will find himself out of his depth. Those SUITABLE applicants are in the county . They simply do not want the job at this time.

NoBull, You me and I daresay thousands of Meath followers agree on nearly everything to date. The steering committee's advice should have been sought and taken on board. It was at least unhelpful & premature to issue that statement in support of a (being kind) management regime which has proven itself to be unable to progress the Meath senior team. Yes imho also these two things did not help matters.
I hope as you do that delegates put things right in 7 days time so as to put the process back on track. The statement supporting a 'chosen one' & any votes canvassed will have to be defeated by sufficient delegates to permit an open competition for what was a Vacancy since our Westmeath defeat.
Let all politicking be put aside next Monday so that ALL interested candidates (including Mod if he still wants) will be considered for the vacancy asap.
From next Monday on, let the overiding Consideration, for All parties involved in any way, be the best appointment to get the best out of the county senior Team.

I genuinely don't know what's going to happen next Monday night other than the possibility of a heated argument which may not necessarily be a good thing, I'm sure there are interested parties in the county who would like the job and I agree that the swiftness of the executive announcement put paid to any canvassing by would be managers. I don't believe MOD would withdraw his name in advance or on the night, I don't think that's the type of person he is, he would rather let the meeting decide his future I believe. It will be interesting to see if he announces his intended new selector or any other back room changes in advance of the vote, that could be a crucial influence on whether he stays in the position or not. From what I hear the county appears split 50/50 on this with some strong opinions on either side but that is me hearing things from afar so I'm sure some of the rest of ye may have heard different. For all our opinions on the matter next Monday is a really crucial day for Meath football and we have to put our trust in the delegates (a dangerous thing) to do what's right for Meath football and not anything else. Being honest I'm tore myself on the issue, if MOD did announce strong back room changes in advance it may sway me but whilst I admire his footballing intentions and his overhaul of the squad with youth I can't ignore the fact that we need a bit more aggression, toughness and steel and what you might call "cute hoorism" about our play both physically and mentally. As I stated before on another post we created enough chances this year to be promoted, reach a Leinster Final and beat Tyrone and and the qualities I mention above would have seen us over the line in a lot of games. Anyway whatever happens we should get behind whoever is in charge and that includes MOD if he survives, it's going to be a very interesting meeting that's for sure.

Cant be any cloak and dagger stuff.
We all know how important sponsorship is, but that should not dictates who should manage us.

In many ways MOD is the least important guy managing in Meath. It's the guys below him who we should be investing in. They are the guys who can make a real difference in coaching the next generation of Meath players thereby making the job of the senior manager much easier.

I don't think there be any heated discussions there maybe discussion ok but Conor Tormey is a nice guy and don't let things get out of hand
I don't reckon any new back room team will be announced as that usually don't happen either until a manager is in place. I don't think either that there will be a vote other than a few views expressed I reckon that clubs will sit on there hands and go with the flow

Numberjeraeys if that is the case, then Meath football is FINISHED .
Not one club will say what a disastrous year we had? Nit one delegate will say things have to change?
I am awhile out of the county, but i refuse to believe that we have sold our soul.

I wonder why the steering group are so silent now? If i recall correctly it was said that advising on appointment of manager was part of the brief . perhaps i am wrong .Can anyone recall or are the 3 wise men in situ at all,and what do they actually do ? Maybe the mistake a lot of posters here make is that we look for logic.

I think he will get another year, seems to be little appetite for change. More bad new on injury front with Adam Flanagan now on the side lines for next nine months or so.
