An Eamonn O'Brien/Damien Sheridan combination with a solid coaching team i.e defenders, forwards, fitness coach would be my ideal scenario. Damien has proven himself as a great manager likewise with EOB.

Uncle faster graham came with a solid backroom team the last time of Evans (got rossies double promotion) and devine, he wasn't trying to wing it unfortunately like mod did and took us all for fools n

Uncle Fester

I understand Gerry Mac's situation and unfortunately it seems he is out of bounds for us. I'm sure he could be a great manager though and would bring a no nonsense approach that we need.

It's difficult to imagine Eamonn O'Brien would come back to Meath after how he was treated. I think everyone will say he was harshly treated at the time. Donal Curtis was part of his team at the time and is doing good work with Castletown these days. An interesting option but I wonder how realistic. But definitely I would say something to consider.

Regarding Dowd and Fay - they are both heavily involved in club management and have all the honours as players. The combination would appeal to me along with an experienced coach/mentor, be it from inside or outside the county, to add the experience.

Does anyone know what is the official status of our manager right now? We know his term was up after three years.... So does that mean we have no one in the position of Meath manager?

To add further on Colm O'Rourke. The man is mentioned every time the job comes up and it's always talked about how he would have to give up the Subday Game job. If he is serious about turning around our fortunes I can't see how that would be an issue. It's time to step up to the mark. We all remember his presentation to the county board years ago and what he sees fit for Meath football to progress. Well now we are in a slumber and it is time for action. If the county board are as proactive and willing as they want us to believe they will listen to all proposals for the better of Meath football. Again for Colm I'm sure it is a personal decision for him and if the opportunity presented itself he would have huge support. So it's time to get rid of the amateurish ways of Meath football and move forward. People like Colm are central to our progress but the role he would take is less certain unfortunately.

men_of_49 I see you dont even mention Paddy Carr or Kevin Foley. Carr is a very experienced manager and Foley as tough as nails. I tink that Paddy would be a very genuine prospect with Foley/ Geraghty.

Didn't Colm say a few years ago that he wouldn't get involved while Shane was establishing himself on the county team. Whether that still applies or not (from here onwards), who knows. Realistically though, I couldn't see him taking on the role until he retires from St. Pats. So that could be a few more years yet!

Right now, I would take a gamble on a few of the names mentioned above (if they are really passionate about the role and have a promising management team to go alongside), as the thought of another two years under MOD is depressing.

To be honest I just hope a few names come forward soon, MOD getting another year is one thing but it would be disappointing if nobody even opposed him, it would show a worrying lack of interest from within the county. What do yous think, will someone else put their name forward? is there any talk of it?

ziggy that's only part time he's still primarily involved in the Mater as far as I know.

On a serious note I wonder would a retired rugby star be a decent shout? The way they'd know so much about defensive lines, stopping the opposition from running, short hand passes etc might be a decent perspective haha

Does anyone know if he will definitely be put to the vote on 10th August next? so it's 2 weeks and we will know if it's MOD for 2016 or a new management setup?

My understanding is that the Executive's recommendation i.e. MOD to continue will be put to the club delegates on August 10th and they will be expected to ratify it. If however they decide not to accept this recommendation similar to EOB debacle then the whole process will have to start again. That is a committee will have to be appointed to find new manager and the clubs will be asked for nominations for the post of Senior Manager. My biggest worry is that nobody has put their hand up to indicate interest in the Senior job that I am aware of. I am sure that if there is not a creditable alternative the clubs will leave MOD in situ.

Your correct Greenwood, its highly unlikely the clubs will vote against his appointment without an alternative candidate. The EO Brien vote was outrageous at the time but it was not a vote against EOB but against the county board for not letting the clubs have their say on the Louth match.
I am surprised MOD allowed his name to go forward again after three years of poor results. On all key areas I would take issue with his thinking. Panel selection , team selection, tactics, substitutions, even his ability to control what players say to the media. Having said that it takes a brave man to put his head up in this county with the demand for success and MOD has to be commended for this. Other more notable candidates prefer to be hurlers on the ditch.

If MOD is in charge next season, things could get nasty if Meath don't start the league well..

In fairness next year we are playing a very poor negative Derry team, a Fermanagh team who beat an overhyped Roscommon outfit at home and who beat Westmeath who are no great shakes either. Tyrone won't be playing past a q/f this year and Armagh are not even worth mentioning. Laois lost to Antrim this year enough said there. Only Galway out of next years league teams is to be feared the rest are there for the taking. A top 2 spot in the league next year is now essential to any progress. None of this 'we have no regrets' nonsense at the end of the league.

Oldsam Newsam,

Paddy Carr was on my list. I didn't mention Foley as you pointed out he is another one who has done good work on the club scene. Deserves a mention for potential management team inclusion. I also forgot about Jody Devine. Plus I'm sure there are more good coaches out there in Meath.
