Ziggy is that correct? That is the worst i have heard in a long while, jasus i deal with a pretty under funded club in Westmeath and even for the under 12 14 teams we provide water. Its little things like this that not only turn kids off but also their parents.

May be a bit more to it than not giving out water to the lads, was involved with a team not too long ago and there was two lads we were not allowed give anything to eat or drink due to possible allergic reaction, this included water. Possibility of cross contamination I was told. Some strange rules and regs. out there now.

Ziggy that is unbelievable in this day and age, now i know what seadog is saying and yeah we have one lad with a nut allergy, but his mom provide us with his stuff, but a bottle of ballygowan isn't costing the earth, unreal absolutely unreal.

All , for clarification purposes , water is supplied to all players at coaching sessions, games at development level . The emphasis on the players to bring their own water bottles , and water is recognised as good practice in every sport , it is so that they come prepared to train , perform , and are not already in the dehydration zone before they even start training or playing . The fact that Ziggy made the above comment indicates that he is only acting the blackguard , looking for comments, and trying to raise concerns unduly. Its either that or Ziggy hasn't a clue about the particular subject It is a widely accepted, and a known fact that young sports players do not take in the required amount of water in advance of training , playing . The development teams in Meath are using best practise , and advising the players that they must be taking on water all the time , that they must be fully hydrated so that they can perform to the best of their ability at training and during games . It appears that Ziggy is been very conservative in the way that he supply's information to this forum , and that this approach is either just to continue a thread that was dying or to create controversy .

Fact , Development teams are supplied with water .

Fact
, Players on panels are advised to be taking on water in advance of them coming in to play or train . 2.5-3 litres per day , in advance of training , games . Indeed at all times .

Fact , Dehydration going into a game can restrict a players performance by up to 10% , it is recognised that correct hydration protocol can be a most effective performance enhancer.

All the development Coaches that I am familiar with utilise correct hydration protocol , all supply water to players on their development panels . Do they request that the guys bring their own water , Yes , ,And Why , so that they get into the habit of taking in water in advance of training , playing .Thirst is a very bad indicator of dehydration , the guys have all been instructed in the best practise . So the statement that Ziggy made is not 100% fact .

Calm down a wee bit...

Why are the players told to bring water then,if they are supplied with water?

I was told by one of the coaches, that the players have to bring their own water, now,if they also supply water, well that is fair enough and he should have clarified that,as he made it sound like, they have to supply the water.

Chaisleain-Abu Perhaps you may have some knowledge of the standards and policies for establishing and maintaining fitness levels both physical and mental for our current inter county team. What practical measurable standards apply currently. I ask this as a long standing supporter who believes we are way short of what is required in these departments. From reading your post i assume you may have more knowledge of our policies than the ordinary supporter. In the same area perhaps you may be able to confirm that all coaches hold the relevant qualification as required.I am not trying to be smart but just need to be satisfied that the well read theory books are transferred into reality on the ground. For life outside football.
It would not be a good lesson to put young lads in a frame of mind such that someone should be there to carry water for them.
Well done to whoever told them to be self sufficient.

Chaisleain_Abu : You obviously have a hand in one of these supposedly development panels. Surely the purpose of a development panel is to improve the standard of all the good underage players from all over the county. Were all clubs supposed to send their 3,4 best players to these panels. Yet I see the U15 panel has 8 lads from Dunboyne, With 6/7 from Dunsaughlin, Ratoath, yet there are many clubs with no representation at all. So how can you call this a development panel. Several of these lads involved play rugby and will only be there when there is no rugby. If the county were serious about developing the young footballers there would be 4 regional panels with qualified coaches looking after them. It's clear there is no development in this county but a peace meal approach to quell the unrest, How many of the people in charge of the panels have their sons or nephews on them. Answer most.

Imagine Meath not reaching a Leinster final in 5 years never mind winning one...

Imagine going down 10 points to Laois in Leinster...with no second chances

2 hammerings for Meath at U16 level in the Gerry Reilly, with the split Squad at the weekend. Meath also faired poorly last year too with the split Squad experiment.

Do any of the other counties do split squads?

Surely Meath should be playing with one strong squad??

No just Meath. I can probaly see the point of it as Meath is a big County with a lot Clubs and they probaly want to look at as many players as possible before Minor Level - but when both teams are getting tanked its just deflating for the players involved.

Dublin have one team involved - see more of a reason for them to have 2 teams then Meath.
