Why don't we have forward, back and midfield coaches specifically ?????

Mod record reads as first ever defeats to Down and Armagh, but the worst of them all to Westmeath, biggest ever loss to Dublin, failed to get out of easiest division 2 in years yet says he has no regrets, remember the dubs don't whinge comment to Ryan? Then whinges unreal after Leinster final, totally clueless in games , has never a plan b (and seldom a plan a)
Oh yeah he is doing a great job, Jesus wept.

Interesting points being made. Say what you like about Banty, one of the things I liked was he brought in people who were better than he was in specific aspects of the game, a certain John Evans springs to mind for tactic, can't remember the name of the chap who was an international sprinter at the time to help with speed and conditioning. Don't see this type of person involved at the moment and I don't see this current management being inclined to go looking for help. With regards to players, by my count Menton has lined out in 10 different positions, by far the most moved around player. Keoghan seems destined to be lumbered with any defensive position where there's a problem. K.Reilly looked totally unfit the last day, you'd have to question why he was selected. Midfield is an ongoing disaster area for us, injuries haven't helped, SOR was promising but gone for the guts of 3yrs, Gillespie out for a year. Also, nobody to win the dirty ball in the middle, lots of breaking ball last day picked up by WM players under no pressure in the last 20mins. Forwards are good when they get the ball, not sure if they have it in them to win hard ball.
Lots of potential, just not convinced that MOD is the man, after 3 yrs in charge it's still very much a work in progress with no end in sight.

Would be happier if we could call us a work in progress, but there has been no progress, same problems no solutions.

is Navan4ever on a wind up here? He / she mentions that they have supported meath for 40 years and POR is potentially the best goalie. I could name at least 2 goalies in that time that were way better than Paddy. nothing against the man but that statement was rubbish plus the statements about hoping that Meathh co board convince Dowd to stay and brave decission etc etc. no justification given for the statements. Also, the first half on sunday described as one of best ever but 2nd half dismissed as strange.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but to conclude after the results in the last week that the future is bright for meath football is delusional or more likely a new poster on a windup. I will await navan4ever's ongoing involvement in various debates here. not just open an account and then go on a windup.

Think you summed that one up well. Sounds like it may have been his first match.

lads the best keeper we ever had was Brendan Murphy he was what i call a proper keeper . paddy new he was not good enough to play for Meath out field so he went in goals . Mc Hugh is as good a keeper and he will prove that next Sat in Tyrone .

I agree with your statement PoR isn't near our best goal keeper. Just because he can catch high ball and kick it 70 metres doesn't make him the best. To be fair to him it's not his fault either as there is no keeper coaching at a young age. We rely on other sports (soccer) to develop keepers for us. I agree murphy was probably our best but we as an organisation didn't develop him. Dublin have a keeper coaching programme up and running from 14 up yet we've nothing at all. We can bash PoR but he's the best we have because of our lack of interest in developing keepers. We should be trying to develop young players who want to play in nets not like at club level " he's a good kickout put him in nets" attitude at county level it's just unprofessional.

Ziggy his kicks have to be better than por, and 6 goals in two matches against div 4 and div 3 teams isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of a good keeper.

Paddy in general has done a good job for Meath. To blame him for us conceding the 6 goals is very short sighted..

I think he can be blamed for 3 of the 6 for sure, but his kick outs are a joke, getting worse as time goes by, and his temperament is letting the whole team down. Remember murphy wouldn't have been back in only for his red card 4 years ago.

It is quite silly to blame one individual for 6 goals. The high scoring being conceded is caused by poor defending and that includes a half forward line and midfielders who do not, or are unable to track back. Playing forwards as defenders seldom works-one would think that there is a shortage of players in the county with only a few clubs to pick from.
