Tyrone v Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Meath need to take a measured long term approach to the future, hoping we will stumble on a new manger would only fix things in the short term. The level of underage coaching at the top level is not great. And what is even more worry some young lads don't even want to bother going for trials with Meath at under age level. years ago Boylan masked a lot of the problems in the county, by been able to mould certain players into the players he wanted. And quickly got rid of journey men not willing to put in the work. We have a roll here, ask yourself can I help with my club in anyway ? coaching, first aid or fundraising etc.

Meath Were clearly the better team than Tyrone. Ulster Referee gave them an incorrect Penalty and minutes later refused to give Meath a clear Penalty. They also escaped censure for a lot of cynical well directed and calculated transgressions. Don't blame Ref he has to live up there. Its all over now but it is disingenuous to blame MOD

I don't think many are blaming MOD for the Tyrone defeat as such.

What kids want to get into football watching there county heroes becoming a laughing stock by been beat by Westmeath for first time, or scraping by a injury ravaged Wicklow? Its a vicious cycle, without senior squad doing ok , (still playing in august) the kids will not put in the efforts and who can blame them, we are better than what we are achieving, we not all ire contenders. But again ill use the Monaghan comparison, they went to div 3 with us, look at them now and look at us? All this time mod has been at the helm, he used the excuses of not having the experience at end of semi? Well who is to blame for that? Again look at Monaghan, Donegal had all the chances and Monaghan were hanging on for dear life, O'Rourke sprung dick clerkin from bench to settle things down, he bought a easy free and Monaghan suddenly regained composure, where was our clerkin type? ,sherridan, ward, Farrell, when we needed that bit of experience at end? Watching from the stands, while mod sent on a 18yo to rescue game, who's confidence is shot anyway, and he had the option of queeney lets not forget. That's why mod cannot stay, you cant get rid of experience or fail to send on one guy with a bit then use inexperience as a excuse.

cant do anything but agree with RD's last post.. for me, my stomach sank when young joey came on. For one i felt really bad for the kid as he Thrown in to the wolves to a certain extent in my opinion.. the first thing that popped into my head when that change was made was that MOD had thrown in the towel. There is absolutely no logical explanation to explain why joey would come on ahead of the likes of queeny.

And to be perfectly honest, no disrespect to kevin reilly, but when your down by a few scores and you feel that your best option is to go with an injured aging fullback in the middle the park, it proves you have no idea what to do.. reilly did score 2 points. first was decent and second was a backs shot of hope and it flew over luckily..

My opinion is we don't have a well of fantastic talent at our disposal at this moment in time. I dont believe that the players are not fit, i simply believe that they are not naturally athletic as other counties and no amount of training will change that. Although when you hear reports of players really enjoying training, questions need to be asked as to how intense it is. Regardless of that, you can only go and play with what you have but i feel even as limited as we are at present, MOD's tactics/decision making is not giving us a fighting chance. MOD must go for the sake of meath football. We are heading towards being just another county who hope we get a good run in the qualifiers.

If you were at the Match you would understand why he brought Joey On. He disrupted Tyrone with his runs and got in for a goal, Was pulled down as he shot but was not given the penalty. That proved it was a workable strategy to get a goal. Football strategy's are not guaranteed to work and in GAA are subject to the vagaries of referees

Ashrules I was at the match unfortunately and I stick by my previous comment. He did indeed get in for a goal chance which I feel, say queeny or someone who did not weigh next to nothing, would have not been pulled down and would have finished.

I agree strategies will not always work but what im saying is at least we should try have a Plan A&B as I feel we had nothing.

Why post a comment if you do not know which sport the discussion is about or the rules of the sport.
Anyway even in rugby league to force by a pull down tackle the equation for force is mass by acceleration. It is not weight itself but how it is used and other factors such as muscle strength and speed are more relevant. Some of Meaths strongest and toughest such as the red Collier would be heavier than #Joey now because of their age but would have weighed less than him in their playing Days

Well ashrules. My original comment was in relation to semi final defeat to Westmeath, the most sickening defeat i personally have ever suffered watching Meath , but it can be applicable to Tyrone match too, but the fact is we should have been playing dubs next day not Tyrone, and the fault we weren't is mod no one else.

I agree MOD should go the final straw for me was the beating Monaghan gave us in Clones last year game was over after 10 minutes clearly MOD learnt nothing over previous 2 meetings. That was very worrying. But 3 major points for me why this year was a failure

1 Mod poor selection selections decisions, and lack of ability to change game plan.
2 Fitness levels where very poor
3 Players need to take blames here, our top players where poor this year. don't point fingers.

Funniest post I've seen in a while. how can you fathom that I no nothing of hurling or football when I play both and have done since I was a kid. Again you seem to think I was taking a swipe at Joey when I have clearly stated otherwise. Facts are we had better players on the bench that would have suited that current situation better. Hows that injury coming along anyway.

We missed a lot of frees and 45s this year.

Would we be in division 1 and still in all Ireland if we had a decent deadball kicker?

Newman was great in 2013 and we ran the dubs close but has been off form this year

Newman has suffered with injuries this year, hasn't look fit and as such has lost a bit of confidence. But ya are right, its essential to have a good freetaker.Aside from Newman,I don't see anyone else..
