Tyrone v Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I do not accept that the thread is overly NEGATIVE. I believe people have said it as it is. Therefore, sincere ,honest and realistic seems to fit better. By any objective measurement in 3 years we have made no progress .How can anyone who has no other agenda say otherwise?? The proof of the pudding is in the eating!! I think the CB can make the position more attractive to any new man by committing to assisting to develop the person ,provide with all the resources needed to bring our management up to speed.I think the plus is that we appear to have a CB who want to do the right thing for Meath football.

Mark my words , he is not the County Chairman's son....You might check your facts before you single out a player like that.

Out of interest lads, for arguments sake, is there anybody that could make the step up to the county job if MOD isn't given another term?

Personally I don't think there's a great selection available to us right now! MOD has radically changed the team and blooded a lot of young players, he now has a core of young talent in that team!

If nobody else is right for the job it should be left to MOD I think.

Even if MOD is left with the job, he has proved he can not meet the job requirements after 3 years. SO, he or whoever, cannot continue with the same approach, and achieve better results . Too many ifs and buts and dependance on "luck" Therefore ,as has been proven over the past 12 to 15 years there is a considerable gap between our expertise available and the level required to do the job NOWADAYS . So the VITAL issue is fill that gap starting now. Then whoever is in the role needs to be given 5 years with annual reviews. I certainly do not know of anyone Made to measure at present.
This is clearly a development issue for the county board to deal with. To leave MOD there just because we think we have no better is indeed not the answer. Time to dispense with sticking plaster solutions .

YES ziggy thats it in a nutshell.. Investment in required expertise is maybe even more important than Dunganny right now.

This military quotation is often relevant : I would rather have a general who was Lucky than one who was good. (Napoleon Bonaparte)
I am confident that the current Meath Steering Group of (Sean Boylan, Gerry mcEntee and Colm ORourke) and the current Chairman aided by his County Board Executive are well capable of accurately assessing (between them all) what is now required.
In the search for a new manager, I would expect any affects on revenue or attendances at Meath games in 2016 will be one of many factors taken into consideration especially now with the new costs of Dunganny and those proposed for Pairc Tailteann now imminent. I dont expect any hopes or wishful thinking from the combined experience, strengths and competence of these men who are charged with plotting the future of Meath GAA and its players.
No doubt these men would consider some of the defeats suffered by Meath in recent years to be unacceptable. And I expect the best available outcome and manager to arrest this trend (of poor results) will be found after appropriate combined research and efforts are used. I expect them to say 'this far and No further' and that realistic and comphrehensive plans will be put in place for Meath football later this year.

2012 Top 12, 2013 Top 12, 2014 Top 12, 2015 Top 16, 2016 Top 20?

It would be a real shame if nobody put their name into the mix and contested the position of manager. It would also be terrible if certain people let personal friendships cloud their professional judgement and do nothing.

RP that's exactly it, think there is too much emphasis on who manager is, once he is passionate and leads by example, and of course has plans abcd. Then we need a fully professional set up in backroom, look i have nothing against any club in Meath and i wont bash anyone but there is no way should a intermediate club have 5 senior players on when we chasing a Leinster semi final, a third of the team? Come on, even 4 id take but 5? Has to be better scouting of players.

Royaldunne- I would agree with you, however I am not impressed by any alternatives being mentioned as managers. I would say that we need some defenders who have pace and who can defend. Against Wicklow and against Westmeath there was some very good forward play by some individuals, however most of the defenders were pedestrian like with their movement of the ball into attack and unable to defend when required (the clubs need to be better explored!). You cannot expect guys who play forward all week resorting to defenders on an inter county team. You also require half forwards who can also cover ground and defend similar to mid fielders. You always need a defensive midfielder and an attacking mid fielder. On the bright side, with a small bit of luck, Tyrone should have been beaten in Omagh in very difficult conditions.

Browncows again some bad shot selection v Tyrone coat us in end, but Tyrone have been very lucky with draw, this is still worst Tyrone team in 2 decades and beating Tipp and Sligo will not change that.
