Meath SHC Championship Predictions

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Bit off topic but good news to hear today that the same Mullinavat team that were pushed right to the pin of their collars in the Leinster IHC final by Kiltale have made it to the last four of the Kilkenny SHC. Encouraging signs for hurling in the county.

How wrong I was with my prediction Trim v Dunboyne final. Trim never showed up and if they played hurling they would have been better off. Also on the line they could not work out what to do with the extra man and a Credit to Kildalkey - Elder players used the head. Kildalkey will be hard stopped now Kiltale did well and had enough but it just shows you if Kildalkey mix it up with Kiltale just like Trim did against them Kiltale will be left wanting so Kildalkey for SHC 2015 without a doubt.

Fair Play kildalkey , better team on the day. Trim hurled in glimpses but looked unfit and played without desire for most of the game. Kildalkey were strong with 14 players but have the tendency to turn off at patches which Kiltale will strive on.

That Statistic about Mullinavat making the last 4 of the Kilkenny shc is amazing. Do the county board realise MEATH HURLING IS ON THE UP

Being realistic i think that these results show that club hurling in Meath (particularly in kiltale) is on the up, different story when it comes to the county. Take the likes of Offaly where you have kilcormac winning leinster club championships yet the county teams get absolutely walloped.Having strong clubs doesn't necessarily result in a strong county team, when the county team is trained two or three times a week like any other club team in Meath it will never improve.

I think Kiltale are only really at 70% of what they were playing in the latter stages of last years championship, thats why Kildalkey have a real chance. I could be too close to call. Anyone know the odds for a draw?

Not taking anything away from Kildalky as they were easily the better team on the day but the trim duel players looked absoultly flat and burned after the first 20 mins. Kildalky were sharper all over the pitch and the trim lads simply couldn't match the pace or intensity.

Agreed Irish_downunder, Trim lads did look out on their feet, at least 6 dual players started all 3 championship matches in 8 days & may have taken its toll. Although you'd need to question the management too, they just didn't utilise the extra man at all, Kildalkey un-contested quick puck outs killed Trim. Credit to Kildalkey though, they were by far the better team and deserved their win, showed more desire and wanted it more, like men possessed at times, not many wides either.

Should be a good final, two best teams in the county on show. Kiltale to sneak it by the odd score.

RedMeath12,

The quick puck outs last year were unbearable to watch as mcgann had the sliotar dropping into the half forwards while the two trim half backs were jogging back up the pitch with their backs to kiltale and neither have the intelligence to realise this happing for the duration of the game... Watching them make the same mistakes on Saturday was sickly but kildalky have that bit of cope on that will take them very close and deservedly so.

In fairness to Trim the referee got the puckouts wrong. The goalkeeper has to wait until the referee blows the whistle or at least his own full back line have to be outside the 21. Referee obviously didn't know this rule as the Kildalkey keeper was pucking the ball out before the ball had even landed over the bar. If ruled correctly, it would have given Trim time to pick up their men, forcing kildalkey to hit it long where Trim would've had an extra man.

In saying that it's pure naivety from Trim, and very clever from kildalkey, Trim should've realized the ref wasn't picking this up and either done the same themselves or be more aware on kildalkeys puck outs.

Some great games of hurling over the weekend. Wolfe Tones with a great win in the intermediate semi. A cracker in the SHC relegation game, and a top game between Trim and Kildalkey. Kiltale walked past Dunboyne, and will be hard to write off for the final win. It was disappointing game from Dunboyne, I always feel that they are missing that bit of fight, even when they pulled kiltale back to 3 points there was no life in them, no will to win. Trim played well but missed an awful lot in comparison to kildalkey, if the wide count had been the other way Trim would have won. Trim management seem to get it all wrong on the day as ther looked like they were playing with the man down. I didnt see the sending off even though it was right in front of me, I was mainly surrounded by people who did se it, a few from trim a few from kildalkey a few Ratoath heads hanging on from the Junior 2 win, all said it wasn't a sending off anyway. Begining you're spot on, kiltale impressive run in leinster last year can be seen by the results of teams in the "strong" hurling counties

I wasn't overly surprised when Kildalkey beat Trim. Trim were a pale shadow of the team they were earlier in championship. 3 games in 8 days told. Kildalkey got their tactics right and hit very few wides.
Kiltale looked very impressive, missing at least 4 goal chances and just seemed to be able to keep Dunboyne at arms length at all times. Kiltale's forwards scored with ease awhile Dunboyne's scores were hard fought for. Dunboyne need their good underage teams to come through, something they haven't managed in the past 5 years, despite operating at A level consistently.

It makes for an interesting final. Kildalkey older more experienced players vs. Kiltale's young guns.
I don't think Kiltale will have it all their own way. Kildalkey will feel if they can re produce semi final form that they have a chance. In saying that, Kiltale seem to be able to up their game when it's required and I think they will win by 4-6 points after a tight first half.

kildalkey havent beaten kiltale since group stages in 2009, but i think they will lay that to rest on sunday. kiltale are afraid of their lives of kildlakey and if they kildalkey geta few points up , kiltale will fall to pieces. Kildalkey to win by 5 points

ha great prediction is right.

Great achievement by Kiltale, game was never really in doubt. Best team in the county by some distance. To win a county final by 9 points without O'Sullivan and two Donaghues shows the strength and depth they have. Can see Kiltale dominating for years to come.

Sadly, this could be the end of the road for a lot of that kildalkey team, have a few lads well into their 30's. Thought they set up too defensively, dropping men back allowed kiltale to put two men on ducksy and basically took him out of the game.

Hopefully kiltale get a good run at the leinster, be great for meath hurling to see them win it.

Well done Kiltale not a great game but the best team won. To many wides by Kiltale if they want to push on that will have to improve by a lot. Kildalkey lads gave it all. Pity they did not bring in Conor Kearney earlier he made a impact when he came on.
