Had the pleasure of being in Stamullen today, first off congrats to St Pats, they have developed one of the finest club facilities I've ever seen and they can be very proud of their achievement. The game was very entertaining and finished 2-13 to 1-12 in favour of Meath, Down led 1-10 to 0-8 at half time after having a purple patch for the last 10 minutes of the half after they had been three in arrears. Very good second half by Meath with some good movement and scores. Andrew Tormey impressed as did Graham Reilly who nailed a peach of a goal early in second half. Conor McGill again stood out at full back and Bryan McMahon I must say showed well up front and kicked a nice brace of points in the second half. Brian Menton also showed his class when he came on. Overall a good workout, the game was quite fast and open and enjoyable, no blankets on display, and the pitch was in immaculate condition, some of Meaths movement and build up play was very good but still plenty of room for improvement. All and all a very enjoyable day and well done again to St Pats.

Just ssen the line-up,fairly experimental side, interesting that Micko has McEntee corner back, from what I have seen of him,he is too good a footballer to be corner back.

How did Wallace,Rooney and Carty do?

Did biggy score 2-6 from play? If that is correct that is some bloody achievement even in a challenge game. Looking good for championship with that kind of form .

Meath: Conor McHugh, Simon Carty, Conor McGill, James McEntee, Nicky Judge, Ciaran McConnell, Brian Power, Harry Rooney, Sean Tobin, Graham Reilly, Damien Carroll, Andy Tormey, Eamonn Wallace, Shane O'Rourke, Bryan McMahon.

Subs: Adam Flanagan, David Dalton, Donncha Tobin, Donal Keogan, Bryan Menton, Paraic Harnan, Donal Landy.

I left my programme behind me Ziggy but it's just been posted up by hogan stand as above, McEntee, Power and Tobin also showed well and Shane O'Rourke looked particularly hungry, everyone put in a good shift really no one disappointed and it was good to see Gillespie togged out and able to hop over a fence into the pitch.....

Yes 2-6 and each one impressive, also worked tirelessly all over the pitch, he certainly is looking good

Eamon Wallace showed well, caused problems and laid off some good passes and scores, Rooney was solid without being spectacular but nothing wrong, replaced by Flanagan in second half who caught a screamer shortly after introduction, also gave a solid performance, Carty didn't do anything particularly wrong but similarly didn't do anything outstanding to earn special notice. McEntee played well, entire defence did second half didn't give Down much scope for scores at all

Also did McMahon play as a proper corner forward?

Ziggy agreed, and when he does have a off day we seem to struggle a bit, also just looking at that score line minus his scores and we got 7 points,,,

Without been too negative thats the worry,Graham Reilly can be outstanding we all know that, but if he is kept quiet,it limits us big-time.He can score 5 points from play or nothing at all.But its important to have Tormey back,as he can get scores from deep too.

Yeah ziggy completely agree, if he is kept quite we can struggle , also my heart does be in my mouth with the first couple of shots he takes as if one of them don't go over it knocks the confidence out of him. Very much a confidence player and needs one early to go over.

That's exactly what was being talked about amongst spectators yesterday, nail the first point and he's flying miss it and he can struggle, sorry Ziggy I headed to the boozer for some light refreshments last night and only seeing your other posts now, yeah McEntee stayed in the corner for the most part as I remember they did switch around a bit second half when Dalton and a few others came on.

Bert very general and if you don't mind me saying lazy statement, he has performed plenty of times in croker , 10 v dubs 11/ 12 /14 v Kildare 13 v Wexford, 14 v Armagh, and so on, now Dublin since 10 have had his measure mostly cause he was double marked, or last year when he had a nightmare against them but then so did 15 other guys.
The fact that dubs have had his measure does not mean he doesn't perform in croke park, in actual fact he has the most motm awards of any single Meath player playing in hq (on current panel), i would agree when things not going well his head can sometimes drop, but i am getting tired of people having a pop at Reilly just for the sake of it, he has been and hopefully will continue to be the best player we have and what i mean by that is the one that create that bit of magic that can lift the team and indeed supporters, but he is a confidence player and if the first couple go astray then he can have a off day.
