Awful game,Cavans style is terrible, but when Meath did open them up,they missed a lot of easy chances.. Again Graham Reilly went missing and essentially gave up because he wasn't having a good game.Eamonn Wallace should be starting at this stage, and Mark O'Sullivan offers little.Having said all that,we dug deep, and I thought Power had a really good game.Dv2 will be harder next year. ziggy320001 (Meath) - Posts: 2432 - 05/04/2015 17:40:31 1710802 Link 0 |
Well done lads. Terrible type football to play against. However it must b said once again....anyone who believes we could compete in division one with what we have is stone mad . I see no progress whatsoever apart from unearthing a gem of a full back royalperro (Meath) - Posts: 21 - 05/04/2015 17:53:57 1710812 Link 0 |

More doom and gloom here I see, even if we had of been promoted I dare say people still would have found plenty to moan about. I couldnt make the game today but I just got off the phone with my father who was there and left disgusted at the abuse our players and manager took from our own supporters, he described it as "an embarrassing disgrace", as far as I can see some of our so called supporters need to take a long hard look at themselves and are in no position to vent such criticism at our players and management Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3734 - 05/04/2015 18:02:29 1710823 Link 0 |
Yep we were good enough for promotion, Roscommon will do a Westmeath on it, we would have been better, but we threw it away, actually didn't think graham Reilly had as bad as game as some, thought both bray and O'Rourke were very ordinary today and actually joey Wallace was a good sub, mcentee must have got injured cause he was playing excellent upto been subbed, micky burke was motm, so he is a nailed in certain to start come Wicklow also Tobin had a good game , menton is obviously carrying a injury, Newman better today. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 05/04/2015 18:11:18 1710834 Link 0 |
Richieq , didn't hear too much after game, actually went onto field and the atmosphere was more one of disappointment then anything else. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 05/04/2015 18:15:02 1710837 Link 0 |

Richieq I agree with your concern re negativity and personal remarks about players. An under age lad told me he would hate to be selected when he gets older, because as soon as your name is mentioned you are ripped to shreds on social media. It used to be a young lads dream to play for Meath. I am a supporter, for every training session they turn up for instead of staying by the fire. For every time they don't go to a stag or a wedding because they have a game. For every time they run till their hearts nearly burst. Thank you. Some awful wides by both sides and we were lucky not to concede a goal (or two) at 12 each, that block and/or when their #11 tried to flick the ball to the net when he had time and space to catch it. Had one of those gone in we were beaten, but credit to the lads they finished strongly and won on merit given the number of chances created throughout the match. Burke and Power best of the bunch and Dalton played well at times. The Wallace's mobility and pace helped late on. Overall though, too much over elaboration in attack, player in possession trying to take on too many Cavan players at once and a lack of composure shooting. They need to be more patient at times, create some space and then have a few players with the confidence and ability to kick long range scores. Ziggy - I think both styles were very similar and will win little. A poor standard of football with some players more like what you would see in a junior match. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 05/04/2015 18:41:15 1710869 Link 0 |
The most disappointing part of not getting promoted to division 1 today is that it was probably the easiest year to get promoted with the teams that were in the division. next year will be a lot harder to get promoted with all the ulster teams. Hope the lads are not too deflated after missing out on promotion, have championship to look forward to now. meathalltheway (Meath) - Posts: 789 - 05/04/2015 18:42:27 1710871 Link 0 |
Brutal game of football both teams using blanket and shooting was poor. My picks out of today were Tobin not just for the block and McGill. showforit (Meath) - Posts: 156 - 05/04/2015 18:52:03 1710886 Link 0 |
Presuming we play Galway at home, Cavan and Laois away - it could be worse next year. At least we will play two northern sides in Navan. Tyrone, Derry, Fermanagh and Armagh. It won't be as bleak as it sounds right now! GlasagusOr (Meath) - Posts: 1348 - 05/04/2015 18:58:19 1710893 Link 0 |
Lads you are disusional. I attended the game with many Meath supporters, true supporters that support through thick & thin. I have been attending Meath games with them for over 20 years. As passilnate as they are and my god their blood runs green, they were thankful that promotion was not achieved today. They and many in the crowd could see that despite cavan's inability to push forward it was clear the Meath were the exponents of the "blanket defence". We counted at least 3 times in the 2nd half that all 15 Meath players win the cavan half. Only difference was that Cavan didn't have a full forward to hold the ball and also at times like Meath didn't have a forward to take simple scores. To believe that Meath's rightful place is at the top table of gaa football is laughable. offtheditch (Cavan) - Posts: 157 - 05/04/2015 19:09:18 1710902 Link 0 |

Glas mightn't work out like that, we may only have 3 home games next year , and also just a note we played Monaghan in clones two years running, don't be surprised if we play Galway in Galway or Laois in navan. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 05/04/2015 19:51:10 1710937 Link 0 |
