Meath v Laois

It's probably unfair to single out any one player, but in response to some of the comments here I have to. As a full back/corner back myself I have to say I thought Mickey Burke was very poor. His style of marking is so loose, and when he misses the ball he fouls. There is clearly some sort of cult of personality surrounding him, because no other player has been given so many chances to play in a position that he is so clearly unsuited for. What happened last night was not his fault, but it's an accident waiting to happen against any decent opposition. We need to either play him at wing back or move him out.

In terms of dropping a point, the blame lies 100% with Mick O'Dowd & co. on the sideline. They watched us lose a 7 point lead bit by bit and made no changes until it was a draw match. You could add more charges against them but really, is there any need to? No quality management team would allow it.

SPOT ON SMOOTHROAD....I didnt mean to single him out but you cant defend his performance last night at corner back, stoney is as good club footballer in the county i have watched but he is a link player and scrapper,he is not a corner back and i think o dowd is letting the man down by exposing him week in week out.

Shocking stuff yesterday, letting the lead slip so tamely is very disheartening and I know management just seemed to look on in bewilderment but what about the players, are there no generals out there to take the game by the scruff of the neck! We'll need to win all our remaining games and get a few favourable results to have any real chance of promotion now.

25mins without a score in the second half and some of them would be shocking in a junior game.

Ya If Burke is to play he has to wing back,I have always said this. Also Donncha Tobin is a player that is getting away with a bit..

I think we should play S. Bray, M. Newman and Sean Tobin as the FF line. Bray or Tobin could drop deep (swap around) as the defacto CHF at times. This would give us more width and mobility (options attacking) in the forward line. With Graham Reilly and Andrew Tormey as wing forwards. We need a defensive half-forward ala S. Kenny winning more breaking and dirty ball around midfield and building attacks. I know Harnan was playing that role of sorts but maybe it would suit Donnacha Tobin or even Micky Burke. Then we need to tighten things up with man-marking corner backs not loose ones. Dalton seems injury prone. If Keoghan and McGill are in the full back line that is a good start. With the other of Tobin or Burke, Menton and say Judge in HB line we are starting to take shape.

Cavan have beaten Galway in Salthill! Great result for us...makes next Sundays game massive, somehow promotion is still on the cards.

Gersay. Absolutely stand over that comment, Laois are in disarray, we saw that last night, the problem is Meath went 7 up thought game was won, and when Laois got a few scores we fell apart, that's why everyone on here is so annoyed, Laois will still probably be relegated we need to be beaten teams like that handy.

Cavan are better on the road than at home. Hopefully there will be more at stake than local pride, when we meet in the final round. If Down beat Westmeath today they will open a gap on the rest. It could be a real scrap from there on with several teams chasing the second promotion spot. And just as much of a scrap to avoid the drop.

I think who ever gets promoted this year will very lightly to drop down next year, standard in div two is poor. Thought Menton played very well last night, had to cover too much ground trying to plug gaps. For Gillespie to have any chance of making impression in championship he has to get a few competitive games under his belt. Why is he among subs?

Next game is what's needed now, it will be difficult playing against blanket defensive puke football, but man for man lets be honest we should be hammering the likes of Roscommon.
Cavan done us massive favour today, beat Roscommon. (which i think we will easily) and promotion is very much still on.

Laois adapted to the defensive game and it proved a successful mission . O dowd still hasn't figured out how to adapt and or change his style in real time .i haven't given up hope for promotion but wins in Newry & Roscommon required , a task a big as a mountain.

Rp all slagging aside i think we will win in Roscommon, Newry actually might not be needed as i think a home win v Cavan will probably promote us. Down are looking a good bet Galway the wheels have come off, we still second on score difference so win next match and i think we will be sorted. But mod has raised more concerns and even with promotion we cannot let that cloud our judgment on his tenure at end of year.

I have to say I was a little disappointed with Meath last night . They were on top for most of the first half but saying that I don't think Laois were bothering much by the looks of it . The second half Laois came out and started to look interested and really could and should have won it in the end . Meath management were slow do make changes on the line .
Leinster apart from Dublin lacks any genuine contender for the back end of the championship . Meath I thought might have Stepped up to the plate recently but by going by last night I seem wrong and Kildare seem to be on a Downward spiral .Westmeath were put back into there box last week by Meath and Laois ..you just don't know what's going on there ..

rd how can you say we should be hammering Roscommon? this Meath team will not hammer anyone. We will once again be dependent on other results to keep us up.

RD, Galway will he ahead of us on head to head if it comes to that but maybe a few teams will tie for 2nd and it will come down to points difference. Roscommon play ourselves and then Galway. I'll call it now that the winner of the Ros/Gal game will get the second promotion spot. We need to win our final three games to get promoted (OK a draw in Down and it might still work out for us), but right now it is more likely we lose two if not all three. I only hope when Cavan come to Navan we do not need something from the game to avoid joining Kildare or Westmeath in D3. Laois vs. Kildare is another big game in the division.

Well results today make not winning last night more annoying! Very hard to see us win away to Roscommon or Down to be fair.
