Meath v Laois

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Thought the substitutes were too late and then some of them were very strange, thought O'Sullivan was very poor and he was left on too long, and then Damien Carroll to replace him was strange. Can anybody put a stop to paddy o'rourke coming up for the free's? And the last thing, why is Gillespie on the subs bench when he cant come on for 5 or 10 mins ?

Very poor 2nd half performance. Predicting a win against Roscommon and Cavan, hopefully that will be enough to gain us promotion.

No chance of promotion now with Down away as well. No goals despite some great chances at the start and end. Line asleep leaving substitutions until 10 minutes to go, while they reeled us in point after point.

0-11 to 0-4 up at home and in the end very lucky to get a draw against Laois. We all seen tonight why Meath are not ready or good enough for div 1 football.

Very very disappointing, threw away two points and indeed could have lost.
We had control of that game and kicked some awful wides in the second half.I thought Eamonn Wallace should have been brought on earlier.Mark O'Sullivan missed a few easy chances at any level, unforgivable stuff.I really hope Tormey and Mento are not bad.Mento was outstanding and easily man of the match,For some reason Reilly was playing as a sweeper at times! The backs were decent, although Burke kept fouling and I am not sure waht Donncha Tobin offers.Bray showed well again, and Newman improved despite some wides.Failing to win these kind of games means we will not get promotion.

Ridiculous showing in the second half I am still wondering how it is possible to squander that lead tonight meath made it look easy though. Very alarming at how the players ran around aimlessly totally lost while management WAITED!!! Totally disappointing result to come away with tonight. I never usually feel this negative but all I keep seeing is a meath team who turn it on for 20/30 minutes and then gone for the duration of the game.

This games just simply states that we have not made any progress from last year .We were cleaned out at midfield.MOD AND CO made no attempt to shore up the area . A blind man could see we needed someone to pick up breaks around the middle. Some players went absent without permission AGAIN. It is painfully clear that football in Meath is at a very low level. Even allowing for the fact that talent pool is low,it is also clear we have no apparent game plan .Sideline cannot read the play patterns .All in all both on the field, and the sideline mentors we are nowhere near the standard required for the top 8

I thought Menton was excellent. He scored 2 points, was up and down the field and drove the team on.

Our forwards were poor. They must have missed at least 12 scoreable points and 2 goals! But look, we got out of jail with a draw. Thought our midfield actually did well.Mickey Burke was very good and kept Munnelly very quiet.

Not sure Burke was that good,he gave away a lot of fouls.I think D.Tobin is very lucky to be in this team.As I said Mento was very good,Flanagn struggled a bit,but I agree we struggle to win breaking ball.Wallace should have been on earlier. Do we play Rossies or Down next?

Was saying at half time that Laois were the worst team we will meet this year. Yet once they sorted themselves out (a small bit) totally dominated us. We again relied on four or five players to carry the team. Very few leaders except for Menton and Keogan. Some of our play in second half was comical. What did management do! bring on Joey Wallace (they will destroy this young lad if they keep this up. He is not ready for senior football)Newman looked good in first half but once Laois tightened up a bit, was all at sea. We are nowhere near division one standard. Hopefully the point may keep us up

Thought the management were way to slow to try and change things! No direction from the line when things started going wrong and some of the changes made too late to make a difference!

Know I'm in a minority but I thought O Sullivan was ok. Some very bad misses but not as clueless as some.

Ziggy I think you are being generous to Menton..I would say he was fair. He is one of the players who comes in and out of games in my view. He annoyed me to night in the first few minutes when he clearly stood back rather than compete on one occasion. several around me agreed, so that did colour my/our thinking However i would leave him at 7 ,as it seems he is more suited there, and can score . Do not think he will ever be a midfielder. Anyway all irrelevant at this point as this team will be div 2.at best for the forseeable future. very poor .

If you thought Menton was "fair" you must think the rest of the team was rubbish

How management stood and watched for 20 minutes been destroyed at mid field is beyond me,credit to laois, they snuffed out bray and newman in second half, biggy is a fantastic footballer but he needs to learn how to pass the ball, way too greedy, burke was ate alive in second half, munnelly was 3 yards in front of him for every ball, keogan did alright considering he was on a fantastic footballer but he came out second best in that duel,i was impressed with mc gill, looks very comfortable in this position, young nicky judge did very well on his league debut. If paddy o rourke was consistent with his long range free taking(and 45"s) he would be easily the best keeper in the country. Some positives from game but mostly negatives. You cant throw away a 7 point lead at home in the league, end of.My opinion is our management were very poor on the night but i would not lose faith with them, they have the team very fit but need to learn that its now a 20 man game.

First off , came back from Cheltenham hoping for a pick me up after a bad week and that just topped off a disaster.
Ill start with the positive, we were clearly the better team, there was some very good play in the First half meaning link play but the finishing was shocking. Now the negatives , again no plan b when Laois went defensive, the long kicks into forward line in hope that Newman or bray could get ball while surrounded by 4/5 was unreal, what will we do next week when we facing Roscommon a team who have mastered 15 behind the ball, pure puke football?? . What was Reilly doing playing as a sweeper? Why weren't subs used when Laois came back to 4 behind? What was the point in taking off osullivan for carrol,? Now granted mark missed two sitters but at least he was penetrating the defense, why wasn't Eamon Wallace brought on earlier? IM afraid all these are the job of the sideline which unfortunately seemed to have learned very little, we have a core centre of players that are very good but we loosing it tactically. Menton was good in snatches , Flanagan seemed outpaced burke was ok judge did ok same for bray , Newman seemed better. Biggest worry is tormey menton injuries although i expect the latter to be ok. All in all a game we left behind.

Ziggy For a team to lose a 7 point lead ,and score 4 points in 2nd half against a poor team Yes i call that rubbish team...As for Menton as another poster said "he was good in snatches" seems not too far away from "fair". Anyway that is my very point also he comes in and out. He proved what he can do in the second half against Kildare. He has the ability so he has to concentrate for 70 plus mins.
I was at all matches this year, i do not carry any torch for any club in particular. I will not travel to Roscommon to see more rubbish. No doubt those supporters who are prepared to accept rubbish will give me both barrells for that.!

1700496 Laois players running away from panel, training not going well, well beaten in first couple of games. Laois are in disarray

If you are correct about the above comment Royeldunne that you but on the Roscommon fourm page it does not much for your own county if we are in such disarray

I am a bit surprised at some people wishing that we get into Div 1- is Div 1 a lower standard than Div 2?. I think we need to be able to compete well in Div 2 before we can make our way to the top Div. Over the 70 minutes I thought our CB was our best player. As I have said before you are going to win little with a lot of 20/21 years olds on the team. An interesting stat! at the end of the match there were 3 outfield players on the team who were from senior clubs.
