Meath v Kildare

I don't fancy predicting it either and I think both teams would take a draw even if it's not exactly ideal, attitude will tell a lot because I can't see a huge difference between the 2 teams at the minute.

not a huge McDonagh fan,but surely he is good enough to be on the panel, capable of grabbing a goal for sure..

When will osullivan be back? Look i think joey needs to develop more, id have McMahon on the panel though to do a job on the less defensive sides, id also have mcdonagh in panel, as i would and i await the hammering cian ward, just as a sub for that bit of goal getting, lets be honest we need goal getters, we have two proven point takers in Newman and biggy but when one or both (as happened on Sunday) have a off day, we have no one who can slot in a goal, a goal poacher , we ain't going to out point many teams, so ill take the slagging over ward, if there is goal poachers out there other than those i mentioned then bring those in, they don't have to offer much else.

I'd have Cian Ward back royaldunne as an impact sub if he showed enough desire to fight for his place but I can't see him really getting fit enough or having the requisite desire, now maybe I'm being harsh but I never thought he had the fitness nor desire to be on the panel, especially if he knew he was going to be a sub.

We could use Cillian O'Sullivan back, he looked pretty impressive last year until injury ruled him out, to be fair we also really need Gillespe, Wallace and Kevin Reilly (although he's out for a good while) back, the squad is pretty thin without them.

One of MOD's biggest problems at the minute is selecting the team, now a lot of people criticize him heavily for that but let's be honest picking a Meath team at the minute isn't particularly easy because of the lack of consistency and problem areas. I'd say if you went around Meath and asked 10 people who know their football to pick a team for the championship (under the assumption that every player will be available) pretty much no 2 selections would be identical.

Micko hasn't ever been of inter county standard manager.
Now he hasn't got the huge talent that other counties have, however he is way out of his depth at this level, I fear result on sat as I think we could get a almighty hiding.

Foreverroyal Not going to surrender just yet, eventhough hard to dispute what you are saying. Maybe its the stubborn Meath man in me who does not want to see the light, and wants to live in the past. I have a hunch that we may see a different Meath team on Saturday because they may free themselves from fear of failure. They may even play on instinct with pride and determination because they realise its now or never with backs to the wall. Maybe MOD may tell them that is the game plan in the absence of any other. Yes a MEATH win against the odds. Leaving football aside i do appreciate the enormous effort in time alone that MOD and players put in on our behalf.Yes it is all very demanding for ye. But you have the honour of representing a proud county, we posters dont!

Lads, correct me if im wrong but wasnt McMahon one of our higher scorers in the league last year? I think he has shown he is deserving of his place in or around the team. not sure about the role he is being asked to play though because I always saw him as a Jamie Clarke-esque corner forward....not being asked to track back to our own 45 on the defensive side.
As for J. Wallace, I hope he isn't reading these forums cos a lot of you seem to be making him (and McMahon) the scapegoats for the loss. he's a talented player who deserves time.

I do think Micko should take both out of the firing line for next week though. give them a run from the bench for sure. unfortunately though replacements aren't exactly jumping off the page at me at them moment...

Well thats the point, both those players should not be told to wander out the field, they seem lost there. One or both players should be working off a full forward, and be staying relatively close to goal or moving wide for a pass.I don't blame them at all,it is not their fault.

you cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Maybe we should face the fact that we just dont have the players and MOD is just trying to get the best out of a very average bunch of players, who on the present team would make the starting 15 of any of the top 6 or 7 teams. The answer is none!!!

Forglory, you make a fair point that we're a little short on talent but I think you go a little too far suggesting that none of our players are good enough to start on top 6 or 7 teams (essentially div 1 teams). Taking the biased cap off, I'd say Keogan would start on pretty much every div 1 team, after that who knows, Newman, Tobin and Gillespie would probably all make the panels, whether or not they'd start depends on the teams really (they certainly wouldn't start for Dublin and probably not for Kerry either), but yes short of them I don't think any div 1 team would take many of our other players.

Also graham Reilly, and if there was a transfer market can you imagine the interest in osullivan

Anyway im just going to write this and post, Sean boylan has been described as a genius by dcu coach, surely mod should give him a call and ask him to lend a helping hand, can you imagine the turn around? I know the say never go back, but we are not getting the best out of lads . We need drastic measures. Look at the talent dcu beat today. And their manager was very quick to pint out who was responsible for dcu win.

Ok listen, I'm not having a go you nor am I a die hard MOD fan, he has made numerous mistakes but I am genuinely curious as to what you think a new manager will be able to do for us because we haven't challenged for Sam since 2001. Now that's 14 years ago and 6 managers (including Boylan 02-05) have all tried their best to get us back challenging for top honours with no success.

So back to my question, what do you think a new manager will do for us?

I think we can win. Lets be honest if we cant rise ourselves to beat the flour bags we might as well throw our hat at it all.

@ hiteam, IMO POR is the only player who would make one of the teams. I think that with the players we have we are a mid table div 2 team and to think otherwise is just delusional. I am not knocking the team or MOD because I believe they are doing their best but just trying to add a bit of realism to the debate as to where we are in footballing terms.

Forglory (Meath) - Posts: 85 - 05/02/2015 20:49:38    1690548

I disagree Forglory, Keogan is easily our best player for me and I couldn't see many teams taking POR, but anyway that's not particularly relevant. You may be right though, we may only be a mid table div2 team but don't forget that last year we were very close to promotion, so I can't see how after 1 defeat away to Galway we're now much poorer than last season, wait a few weeks and see how we things go.

Well that's the team . Mark in, McMahon out. Keoghan still @ 6. I don't know lads, hopefully it works.

I suppose it's the old story after a hammering or bad performance in any team sport. You can either make a raft of changes, or you can say "right lads, go out and prove that last week was a one-off"

Of course, you could argue that making a pile of changes isn't really an option that we have...

More fool me, but looking forward to it. Hopefully there's a good crowd & a great atmos. I see someone trying to organise a singing section in one area of the ground which should add to things.
