NFL Galway v Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Royaldunne. Donegal had far from a poor bunch of players to choose from. Karl Lacey was an All Star on a couple of occasions before they won in 2012, Durcan was always a good goalkeeper. Neil Gallagher was always a fine player to watch pluck the ball out of the sky while Rory Kavanagh and Christy Toye were very well regarded players from when they broke into the team. Colm McFadden was consistently one of the top scorers in Ulster while Kevin Cassidy was a very talented player. I've not even mentioned the McGees who were talented if not extremely driven players and haven't gotten to the players who were in the All reland U-21 Final v Dublin a few years before they won the 2012 All Ireland. Also they had been a Division 1 side, winning the League under Brian McIver.

Jackhackett. Meath played dubs in a minor final all ire a few years ago too.
Stephen bray is a all star, graham Reilly should have at least one, keoghan was nom for ypot etc.
You mean to tell me por, keoghan, k Reilly, tormey, Carroll, Gillespie, g Reilly, s bray, Newman , e Wallace. Are not at the very least on par with anyone on Donegal team? Of course they are, difference was management, and cutting your cloth to measure.

id like to think that we have 8 or 9 staples in our line up, p.orourke, keoghan, menton, g.reilly, a.tormey, s.bray, m.newman and c.gillespie and e.wallace once theyre back fit, a bit worrying how we are knowhere near knowing the other 6 or 7 lads at an important time of the year for meath.

Classapart joey shouldn't be on senior team yet, that's the point i think everyone is making. Let him develop, i personally feel it is doing him more harm than good.

Royaldunne, Yes Stephen Bray has an All Star and Donal Keogan was a Young Player of the Year nominee in 2012. These are two players of quality. Graham Reilly is a talented player but has never deserved an All Star.

Some of our players are on a par with the members of the Donegal side but not very many are. Being in a minor final, and we were steeped in luck in both the quarter final and semi-final doesn't compare to an U-21 final. Players are more developed by the time they're 20/21 whereas a larger proportion in my opinion fail to kick on from minor. Fellas arrive to college and start work meeting different distractions.

I would strongly argue that most of our players are of an inferior standard to that on the Donegal team, regardless of management. In a possible combined team I'd only have a couple of Meath players.

Strange that people want promotion to Div 1 ASAP i said it 3 years ago just before MOD took over and everyone laughed this should have been our sole aim to get promoted to Div 1 and forget about the championship, we are falling between to stools just get everyone fit and go all out to get promoted should be our sole aim.

ziggy, dont know what they were doing ,they stayed the night in Galway,my point is did they really need to considering its only a 2 hour drive on motor way from Navan? possibly too relaxed ?

Jack Meath have only ever won one u21 championship. There is plenty of former players who have a senior all Ireland medal whereas a u21 medal is about as rare as finding a virgin at 2.30 on sat night in navan.

What has that got to do with what we're debating Royaldunne?

Meath are living too long on their past glories. Remember it was the late 80s and early 90s since Meath were able to compete for honours. Counties like Kerry and Dublin who were successful in the past were able to let go of the past and start again.
The longer that Meath go on living in the past the longer it will take them to start building again.

I think you'll find we were competing in the mid and late 90's and early 00's, if you must kick a dog when it's down at least be accurate about it........

With Kildare losing on Sunday there will be extra-spice to this match. Who ever loses on Saturday night will be in trouble at this early stage. The match is on tv so thats my Saturday evening sorted out.

MOD just needs to chill and bring the lads out for a few scoops. It'll be grand.

Meath have never lost a league match on a saturday night, whenever I have gone to it and went for a few pints afterwards,so we can say anything we like, but the key is whether I decide to go for a few pints afterwards!

Oh and that decision does be made before the game,so its not as if we lose and I decide I am not going!!! :D

royalpainter "going forward" this 1 game against Kildare on Sat will answer a lot of questions once and for all. We may even discover that smaller players if used will not be used for aerial combat or man to man,but rather as fleet footed ground soldiers feeding off the bigger guns as quick response "going forward"
p.s.that is the simple message but designed to look complicated !!
