I thought Flanagan was poor in the first half, improved a little in the second half, but Rooney was the man..

I think McConnell is an excellent tackler though. Wallace offers something different, a bit of pace and opportunism. Carried the ball well at times today.

For the galway game I would go with:

1. Paddy O'Rourke
2. Donnacha Tobin
3. Conor McGill
4. Davy Dalton
5. Ciaran McConnell/Padraig Harnan
6. Donal Keogan
7. Bryan Menton
8. Harry Rooney
9. Adam Flanagan
10. Graham Reilly
11. Mark O'Sullivan
12. Andrew Tormey
13. Joey Wallace
14. Stephen Bray
15. Michael Newman

Bigjoe

Not too many would argue too much with that team.

I'd swap Tobin with Keogan. Think Tobin enjoys going forward more. Otherwise that's a good team BigJoe

Big joe how could you leave Carroll out. He the onaly meath player. Who can leave the ball right into your hand , plus he does all the cleaning up , the team you have there could not beat dublin to day , lads we have not got over a top 10 teams in the last 4 years ,

Ziggy. Don't agree with you ref Flanagan. Both he and Rooney play totally different roles. Rooney is an attacking mid-fielder and Flanagan is a defensive player. If we had 2 attacking MF's, we'd expose ourselves at the back. Flanagan covers massive ground. Rooney had a mighty game. The opposition will have noted this and will be out to spoil him next outing.outing. Menton was powerful at half back yesterday. Our only problem was not taking our chances like Dublin did and getting turned over too easily in our forward lines.

An honest assessment of yesterday would be that Harry Rooney was outstanding, Tormay and Newman made a huge difference when introduced, The scoreline flattered us as the difference in physicality, speed and ball handling between the side was in my opinion huge, Wallace is physically so far off it that it beggars belief. Would love to see a bit more aggression in lads, dubs slowing up play when we get a free or a line ball and our lads politely asking them to please step aside...I stick by the management as they are giving lads chances and the result was ideal as had we won there would be some hot air on this forum this morning

Have to agree with you regarding wallace.I dont think he is physically able for intercounty football.way to small and light.he lost the ball way too easy yesterday and the same last summer.paddy o rourke, donal keoghan ,bryan menton and man of the match harry rooney kept us in the game in the first half.brilliant second half when the changes were made.roll on galway !

Graeat atmosphere. Really enjoyable stuff in mid January. Scoreline flattered meath but they showed a little bottle yesterday. Rooney looked decent but way to early to judge him. Pairc Tailteann is definitely in need of a re-vamp and facilties etc. are not fit to hold leinster championship matches.

Lads I think we are forgetting that only for POR in the 1st half the game would have been over. Also we strengtened our team in the 2nd half and dublin weakened theirs apart from MDmcC coming on. We are still so far off the pace and in the physical stakes we are way behind too. Maybe we should face the facts that we just dont have the players to compete at that level. I do however like the heart that we showed in the 2nd half. Its the least we expect from a meath team.

With regards to the game yesterday, Overall, The better and classier team on the day won. Bar the last 20 minutes where Meath showed good character, Dublin where in cruise control. However at this time of year the result matters very little, But there where some very encouraging signs if you are a Meath fan, And indeed a Dublin fan

What i will say is that Dublin and Meath differ in a couple of major aspect, And thats their winning mentality. While Dublins isn't perfect (Exhibit A, Donegal last August), It is stronger than Meath's and if Meath want to progress they have to get the same kind of mentality and do what Dublin do because it's no fluke that in the last 4 or 5 years, If a game is in the melting pot in the latter stages, We more times than not tend to come out of those games with a win and this stems from a confidence and inner belief that winning leinsters and all irelands at senior, minor and u21 level. (If im not mistaken, the last 7 competitive games that Dublin have played where there has been a "kick of the ball" margain, We've won 5 of them. Including the two all ireland finals, And our last two OB cup games)

The second aspect is that Dublin do what they have to do in order to win, Take yesterday as someone else pointed out, We refused to let Meath take quick frees out the field, We slowed the game down when Meath started to get a foothold, Then at the death, We just upped it and showed the composure that the teams at the top show in order to score the final two points and win the game, Meath need to just get that bit of a mean streak. Dictate the game, You where the home team yet Dublin for most of the game dictated what happened and barring some very good goalkeeping and defending from MEath in the first half, That game could have been over as a contest.

There are probably more positives to come from yesterday for Meath fans than there is negatives. But for me if you develop that winning mentality and a bit of a mean streak would bring you on that little bit more.

As for Dublin, They know what they have to do too i'm sure.

Like to see Tobin and Queeney get a few more games to see do they improve. Both very fine players that need a few games at this level to get up to speed. Rooney looks the business and could be our answer at midfield. Great to see the comeback happen and it should give these group of players some optimism for the coming year. A few stray passes and lack of composure at the end cost us but overall it was a much better performance than I expected.

Better team won on the day no questioning that paddy o' rourke kept meath in the game when it could of been a hammering at h/t.

Decent standard of a game for this time of year. Dublin still very much experimental have to agree with some comments made. I think wallace looks like a 12 year old playing senior and I think that he is well off the physiciality needed at senior level. Mickey Newman made a big difference when he came on....

My god Navan for a county stadium is shocking might be up to standards if we were in the 60's wont be expecting much better facilities in Newbridge either...

Yes, POR made great saves in the first half and nailed those vital frees under real pressure late on, but it's his job as a goalkeeper to prevent goals. Just like it is a forwards role to score them at the other end. So saying we were just lucky to be still in the game is a bit silly.

Remember when comparing stadia that Croke park is not Dublins stadium but a national ground, parnell park is not exactly the bernabeu either
