Great to get a crack at the Dubs this early, should bring out a big crowd. We'll have to improve on Saturday night's performance to make good game of it, we kicked far too many poor wides, lost centre field in the second half and as has been flagged already here we don't really seem to have a plan for our inside forwards. Still though it's only January so let's enjoy the ride before the more serious stuff starts.

January and all as it is I thought the line were slow to make changes in second half when we were in trouble.

We need another freetaker to replace Newman in case anything happens him

Tormey was on the frees last year when Newman was absent and I thought he done very well so I don't think that's an area of great concern for us. A bigger problem for MOD at the minute seems to be who to play and where to play them, few players seem to have definite positions.

Should Tormey or Carroll not be on frees?

I thought Joey Wallaces's role was confusing,he came into it at stages in the second half, but were was he supposed to be playing as such?

Thought Mick O Dowd made the wrong move by bringing on Nicky Judge he seems to be struggling a bit Graham Reilly again proved to a top player. Meath threw away points that they easily should have got against DCU at the same time it was still a strong starting 15. It will be good to see what Meaths fitness levels are like against Dublin. This game should set them up nicely heading into the league

Judge did struggle on mchugh but made a big difference when pushed out the pitch. He scored a point to equalise, he won the free to go ahead and he laid off the ball to Tormey only for Andy to miss the chance. Feel a bit sorry for Judge, he seems to be on the oppositions best player every game..but I suppose he needs to get used to marking these players if he wants to be there come championship. We must remember also that judge isn't a corner back or even a full back for his club, he's a half back or wing back that likes to get on the ball. I'd like to see Micko give him
A chance at there. Looking forward to Sunday, hoping both Meath and Dublin put out string outfits. Have to agree Biggy looks in great form, hoping this continues into the league and championship. Can be a game changer on his day

Would agree with bigcheese re judge. Firstly why play a youngster out of position in his first few games, the guy is a half back who likes to get on the ball and run and did this with great effect when he got the chance. Rather than been critical of a new young lad I think the finger has to be pointed at sideline for playing a player in position he never plays in. So if you complaining about judge ask that question first.
We still have no game plan and the inside forwards are at sea. Too late to make changes during match. Bit of dejevau going on here.
3 years and still doing the same things wrong. !!!!

Pauric Harnan is best free-taker in Meath in my opinon. His technique is flawless. Would like to see him hit a few 50s for us. He barely takes a run up, similar to Cluxton.

Not sure about McGill at full back. Looked very uncomfortable whem McGraynor came on. Who will Micko play at full back in the first round of the league ? Menton is playing well out the field and has scored 5 points in the 3 games so far. He has the height but he is not a full back. Micky Burke is not a full back either ...too loose. Keoghan maybe?

Auditions for full back are still open
Would Brian Power be an option???

Thank god i'm not losing it and people are also seeing the same flaws that i'm seeing in the team...
1) no consistency in playing positions
2) no forward gameplan
3) management too slow in making changes

I think its fair to say we'd all love to see MOD doing well but ultimately he seems to lack the ruthlessness to be a top level manager
I thought when he came in a jettisoned Sheridan, Ward, Queeny and Farrell that we've someone with a vision but he's not delivered on it yet.

Conor McGill has not put a foot wrong yet
Goal v DCU was not his man keoghan was on him for first few minutes then McGill picked him up
He's a good player and needs some time to bed in still only 21 or so.

Headforblackspot id say the same for judge. I think some lads want perfection straight away. Both McGill and judge are good players and worthy of panel, but they are still young and green, bit of time needed to allow them find their feet within team.
Bert yep you not loosing the marbles, same mistakes but ill hold off on comments until we see how league pans out, lets hope it changes.

I agree with you about Judge and McGill, just the argument I have for Judge is that he is not a corner back and we are struggling in that area.SO we keep trying players who can play better elsewhere in that position and that is a real problem for us.

Ziggy totally agree. We are using players in a stop gap way that have never played in that position in the hope they will adapt. Not on imo ,
Have we any natural corner backs in the county? Surely the selectors have had a look at club level? Is there no one in any club who could do a ok job?, doesn't have to be the new bob O'Malley, just adequate.

Rd you are making one fatal mistsake. You assuming that management are actually doing their job.
They haven't done it right over past few years what makes you think they will this?

A lot of people on here are trying to pick out where the best position is to play a number of players . I am worried that M O'Dowd is in the same boat , into his 3rd year and I believe he has no idea what his best 15 are or where the best position is for a large number of players .

O'Byrne cup time of year and you always see players in all sorts of positions, good to see lots of new faces. From looking at the games so far and talking with people, areas of greatest concern would appear to be full back line and midfield. We've had a shortage in both these areas for the last number of years, and I haven't seen anything so far that would inspire great confidence that we can get to Div 1 or get to an AIQF. First couple of league games will be crucial to getting some momentum for the year.

What exactly are you suggesting, are you saying that management are putting in the work but don't know what they're doing or that they aren't even putting in the necessary work?

I do not think it would be fair to suggest that MOD and Co do not put in the effort and time, and generally do their best. I think some of us have major reservations about their ability ,but certainly not their commitment. It would be great to see him succeed this year. Succeed this year will require a positive attitude and commitment all the time by all panel members. All flows from good management...Best of luck Micko and Co.
