That is good because Mento would be wasted at 3

Neil Shorthall from Curraha looked like a player with plenty of ability today , who knows anything about him .

He is only about 22 or 23 good centre back for curragha who likes to get forward and can take a score from distance.

Wsas Shorthall not u21 last season, now I was not at the game, but he is a big guy isn't he?

Neil shorthall would be a good option for half back strongly built player and only 22. Lads we know 'Royaldunne' is a balnabrackey player/supporter so obviously hes going to stand up for his clubman nicky judge and want to see him do well.

Graham Reilly played a great game as for Neill Shorthall yes I do think he came up from U 21 level. I fully supported mick o Dowd's changes to the second half it drove the team forward. Fair play to David Bray for scoring the goal. Yes Meath are a young team but they showed signs off potential I think young Flanagan from Clonard is one to watch out for.

as O'Byrne cup games go I think this is as much as we could have hoped for.

Good taster for the young lads of county football. And our more recognised players (Reilly and Bray) being the difference.

I didn't think Bray did much when came on except be at the end of a great move that started with a Joey Wallace tackle and great Reilly pass , granted he did put it away but if he missed it would have been poor forward play. Other than that he didn't do much else if anything.
We were really lacking quality inside forwards

That's true the 2 young corner forwards were very quiet and Queeney still has to do a lot more to nail down a place in the squad but it also has to be said that there wasn't much ball going into them, certainly not much quality ball anyway, but I suppose it's also up to them to come out and make things happen for themselves.

Think it must be said that the pitch looked very soft yesterday with many players losing their footing on several occasions. It was always going to be very difficult for inside forwards to showcase their skills, turn of pace etc. PT should suit them more.

To be honest I am surprised Bray is in the squad,he has suffered from horrible injuries and I don't think he has the potential he once had as a result..

Anyone know if Alan Forde is on the panel?

No mention of him on subs ziggy. Speaking of which how many subs is permitted in O'Byrne games? We used 6 on Sunday
No brolly have connection with bracks but not my club.

inside forward options - s Bray, e Wallace (whenever he gets back), m Newman, b McMahon, d Bray, j Wallace, d rowe

obviously S bray and Newman are shoe ins, and you would hope that one of the rest could step up to the plate.
Wouldn't say its our weakest line on the pitch in fairness

I assume if Forde is on the panel,he may get a game in the next few games.

Although I heard a rumour that he had to get on op.

Yep, think someone mentioned that before. We mightn't see him this year at all then. Shame, as he was very impressive in the county final.

While all these big name forwards look well on paper, I feel there is very little interplay between them. We saw Eamon Wallace and Newman link up well in 2013 but otherwise, there seems to be very little co-ordination between the forwards. A lot of the time it appears that they genuinely don't know what to do with the ball. A more focused approach on set-plays and different attacking scenarios should be taken.

Mark my words Hopefully management will address this need with others,as lessons learned from last year. This poster is looking for signs that teamwork is evident this year. However i do accept that O Byrne cup is ideal for experimentation and trial, and thus too soon to draw any conclusions on whether management have got their act together or not.We can only HOPE !!

Would agree with both markmywords and nobull. This is ideal to try out new things and hopefully find new options and rectify mistakes from last year

I was impressed with Shorthall I know it was only the OByrne cup but he looked comfortable when he had the ball , he also has plenty of size and pace . Id like to see him get a run out in the league at Centre back and see how he would get on .

Where would you play Menton then? For me he has to be 6 or midfield..

Ziggy I really don't know where Menton's best position is . He played very well when he came on Sunday from a very central position . He drove forward kicking 2 great points . He has being thrown around the back line over the last few years and with Reilly out for the league and maybe longer I think he will play at FB when the league starts . I think the Meath selectors should start planning without Kevin Reilly he's injured all the time . So Ziggy to answer you I don't see anyone else playing at FB only Menton .
