Development of Dunganny

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Hey, Does anybody know what is in the Meath center of excellence building at Dunganny? other than the dressing rooms and gym. Is there physio treatment rooms? indoor mini pitch? hurling wall? Looked around online but could not find anything in regards to the facilities available within the building.

I believe they are doing tours of the facilities for €10 per person. Or you can opt for the 'Legends Tour' for an extra fiver, where Barney escorts you around & you get a cup of tea & a Mikado biscuit at the end.

Dressing rooms and facilities for players and officials, indoor gym, medical treatment/physio room, large canteen, squad meeting rooms, offices and conference room, all administrative duties of Meath GAA are moving in from Pairc Tailteann, that's what I've been told is in it anyway.......oh and she's heated by a large furnace which loves hurleys :-) joking, joking.

6 large dressing rooms the 4 small ones as big as Trims, the 2 Big ones bigger, Refs rooms, Physio rooms, Sizable 2 story Gym, Main Office, Two smaller offices Coaching and Games room. Large meeting room and 3 smaller meeting rooms, Basic small canteen. By all accounts a fine building that you would expect for 2 Millon but I am told a bit on the basic side. I am away up today for a look but dont think there is an entry fee

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Am i missing something here lads?

Skryne, Trim, St Pats, O'Mahonys, Ashbourne, Ratoath and soon to be other large clubs have similar facilities...Gormanstown College as well.

2 million euro for some basic enough facilities like dressing rooms and meeting rooms and then a few sandy windswept pitches and a lethally dangerous and outdated artificial pitch. Honestly having played on proper ones, Dumgannys artificial pitch must be causing a lot of injuries. The only thing I see worth talking about is a two story gym and a "small" canteen. Plenty of meeting rooms all over the county already, including navan. Will new meeting rooms help the county board sort out the disgraceful fixturing issues that sees teams playing plenty of games in January and February in the muck and bitter wind while they have nothing to play for in august and September?

Looks to me like another white elephant called a centre of excellence that the board can point to at the end of the year and say there is progress, look what we did and feel better about themselves.

How many full time coaches could we get in schools and clubs for 2 million? How many nutrition and strength and conditioning coaches could we hire for 2 million euro for underage teams? All the facilities listed are available in abundance all over the county and there are some big gyms in navan /kells etc in any case with plenty of squat racks etc.

It's a nice idea to have one place dedicated to county teams but it looks like a rushed job to me from a county board with it's priorities all wrong. A political stunt.

No matter why you can't please some people
A rushed job how are you 11 years after the windswept pitches were opened. Up till yesterday it looked like the last place God made.No doubt the 3G was a waste but at the time they were all the rage. Meath went for it but places like Kildare learned from the mistake and did not. As for it causing injuries that's rubbish simply because it is never hardly ever used

Many so called experts say using astro -turf pitches causes injury, however I do not agree. Over use of any facility and over training causes most injuries There were guys claiming that sand-based pitches were causing injuries. The astro-turf in Dunganny is not 3G. The facility is good and about the colour of the building- is that not one of the colours in our national flag-maybe some folk want that changed as well. What next?

Well it's finally done. Time to move onto the next project. Knocking down the stand in navan and building a proper one similar to what many counties have like the main stand in donegal, Newry, Omagh, Armagh, tullamore, mayo, Galway, portlaoise, Wexford etc.

For both club and county games it's vital we have a stand that is actually comfortable and doesn't break your back.

Apart from that we need to invest money into underage coaches like the dubs.

Sadly unlike the dubs the gaa won't fund these for us. Any sugar daddy's out there? Please help!

I was in Dunganny today, fine day for it!

Meath U15's won all their games.

The beat Wexford by 5-23 to 0-0 and also beat Westmeath 7-21 to 0-2. The other Meath side(gold) beat Westmeath too not sure on the score..

Meath U17's beat Roscommon,I think the final score was 4-11 to 4-9.

It does indeed!

The current U15s are very impressive. The move very well and quickly. The play for each other no fancy dans. They hammered everyone in Leinster last year(including Dublin) and only lost to Cork in a close game. They are a very good group as are the u16's.

Its clear that there are good players at underage.

I mean if you have a very good U14,U15,U16 team it has to bear fruit at minor level.I don't really know how good our u17's are but they did win today..

Meath under 14,15,16,17 seem to be going well in these challenge games. Hopefully it continues and bears fruit at senior level. Just hope lads don't get fed up at these ages as could be playing too much .

Ziggy, Looks like a good win for the U17s. Roscommon had good U21 sides recently so probably a good test as they must be doing something right at juvenile level to make a breakthrough at U21.

Where the U16s playing?

I see what you mean about the U15s. No disrespect meant to Westmeath or Wexford but they're probably not division 1 standard opposition but I see Meath scored a ridiculous amount of scores and have a mean defence. How would they do against the likes of Dublin or Kerry or Mayo?

The U14 team also recorded a massive win against cavan so they are going well to. Cavan also had good U21 sides recently so maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Why are we not told by the Co Board when these teams are playing.

I don't think the U16's were playing anywhere on Sunday.

Meath U15's hammered everyone in Leinster last year(when they were under 14) including Dublin. They seem to be the best in Leinster. The lost one game last year against Cork and that was by 2 points.Last year the U16's did very well too including going up to Tyrone and beating them over a 4 game blitz.

this under 15 team seem to be brilliant and very strong according to reports . just hope they can keep it going and maybe the seniors can develop one or two good footballers out of them in future . but as we all know good underage players don't always make the senior club grade. But here is hoping !!

Bear 10

That is true but if we keep producing good underage sides it has to bear fruit.
