Meath u-21

Honestly couldnt care less how the U21s (or minors for that matter) get on.

All that matters is that two or three from each U21 /minor team go on to become solid senior panel members (with one every couple of years being a serious first team addition). How many u21s or minors have Kerry won in last 25 years?

Leave the minors and U21s titles to the likes of Galway, Cork and Laois...what counts is how the county performs at senior level!

I think the Hastings Cup is "Mickey Mouse" those young players are better off training with the seniors and getting a run against Dublin next week.Either way people should not take that Roscommon result too seriously..

Kerry have won a number Munster titles at both minor and U21 level over the last decade won All Ireland in 2008. In comparison Meath have won little at underage. The Hastings cup is to test the strength in depth of each panel before the u21 championship and judging by the Cavan,Roscommon results Meath have none.

The great Meath senior teams of the late 80s early 90s is where all Meath supporters would love to see again but it's unlikely to be seen again till underage level improves.

And the county Vice chairman said there was no problems in underage football a couple of years ago, Under his watch we have stooped to a record low.

Another bad day for Meath under 21's defeated by 5-9 to 0-8 in Thurles today against Kerry. Can't really say I expected anything else really!

I also heard the scoreline was flattering to Kerry who also scored two injury time goals. Judge Meath on the Leinster campaign..

Crinigan wow that's some statement. The reason Meath were so successful for the 90's was based on 3 top minor teams reaching the finals with 2 of them winning it and u21 won success in 93 along with strong u21 team in 96/97.

Cork won the the all-ireland a few years ago based on underage success and Galway will be extremely strong in the next few years now that they have a top manager in charge. Watch the Galway midfielders in the first round of the league both have 2 all-ireland u21 and a minor and will destroy us and most teams this year.

MOD needs to be told to leave the u21's to the u21's until championship is over. u21 is too early to play senior in my opinion unless extremely talented and then introduced slowly during the championship.

Heres hoping that the Hastings cup was been used to look at some outlier players for the Championship, to try to build a very strong panel , Other wise Seam B has a uphill struggle to try to compete against what's coming up in Leinster .With James McEntee out due to his fractured foot , and all of the other issues in the background ,Things are not looking great. But if anyone can turn this around its SB. The unfortunate issue here I believe is that the level of commitment towards the U21 within the County is not there, players play for their colleges in the O Byrne cup ahead of their County U21's so the Hastings cup can't be used for team building.Players not involved with their colleges play/train with the county seniors. Do you see how big the uphill struggle is to get a U21 team together to perform as a Unit . I went to Kings court , to see the Cavan game , that team was Cavan's 2nd string team that played that day ...enuff said .

For people to come on here and say they're not worried about these results is stupid. Every county we have played so far is in the same boat as ourselves with lads on the college and seniors yet they have the strength in depth to put out a decent team, We have gone backwards in this county at an alarming rate and no sign of it being arrested. Just take a look at the sub committees in the chronicle hardly a Man under the age of 60 on any of them, Then we have the same names cropping up on several committees. Not the way a forward thinking board would work in my opinion. Where are all the 20/30 year old There's plenty of them around but being overlooked.

Looking at fixtures Westmeath u21 game sandwiched between tow league games, Roscommon and then Westmeath, so would mean three games in a week for U21s.

Anyone any idea what the panel will be for the Westmeath game? Will the players with the senior squad be available? Is Daire Rowe in the squad?
