Typical Meath ......Dublin have their panel in place with 1 or 2 places yet to be filled since end of October... Dont think they bother with Hastings Cup. I reckon all it is is a few challenges

They've trained and had numerous trials. Then some of the panel are playing colleges. They've also had a fitness test or two. It'll be the same Craic as last year where a top player, an example being Eamon Wallace last year, won't play his first u21 game with the county until the Leinster championship. Now what sort of preparation was that? I know it probably does the likes of his quality good to be with the seniors for as long as possible but how can you throw 3 or 4 lads into a starting team out of nowhere and expect them to gel no matter how good they are.

With the players they have available, they have no chance of winning.

Serious Potential in this team but no point in guessing how they will do. If they get organised and want it more than other teams they will get to Leinster final if they avoid Dublin. When or if they meet Dublin it will be tough. Meath and Dublin meet in the AI final at this grade in minor.
Huge players like McEntee x2, Flanagan, Wallace x2, Smyth, Rooney, Power, Collins, O Sullivan, Rowe,

Can we read anything into that result today ? Bit surprised at the scoreline but it is a grade we take seriously ( John Evans would say too seriously !).

What is gone wrong with our U-21s? Any time that we had a fairly decent minor team the following (ie three years later) U-21 teams have been very disappointing and this trend seems to be getting worse. If this rate of dis-improvement continued into senior there would be no hope at all. There is something very rotten!!!!

Again our under 21s are a mixture of b and c players in the Hastings Cup,we have an awful lot of them with the seniors and colleges..

At present we have over 20 players(who would be on the team or bench) not available to the u21 management.

NONE of those players who reached the minor final played today, people need to calm down a bit we have 20 players or more not available at present who are under 21.

Ziggy, the chronicle says Stephen Coogan, Shane McEntee, Ruairí Ó Coileáin, Jack Hannigan, Conor Carton, Jason Daly, Barry Dardis, David Toner and Declan Smyth played. That's 6 lads from that minor team of 2012 starting today, and another 3 coming on as subs. Not quite "none".

I meant no starters, some of those lads are with the colleges and haven't being training with the U21 team.

I know we were short a good few players but I'd imagine 6 or 8 of the lads that played against Roscommon will play in the championship. What worries me is how much smaller and weaker our lads looked, it was men against boys. I don't know what strength and conditioning our lads are doing or supposed to be doing but we are miles behind the Roscommon lads in this aspect .

The bottom line here is that loosing is a habit and this team has lost twice. Anyway my comment was a general one and still holds true…….we do not seem to be capable of progressing decent minor teams into better U-21 teams in fact the better the minor team the poorer the corresponding U-21 teams seems to get. We can blame colleges and whatever you like but the same applies to most other counties. I would imagine that the likes of Tyrone have virtually all their U-21s at some college or other and it does not appear to hinder their preparations. It is a simple as this…….we are doing something wrong……but the solution does not appear to be that simple or is it that nobody else has noticed this trend!!!!!!

We did get to the Leinster Final last year, lost to a good Dublin team and we missed a penalty,we were also missing Eamonn Wallace and Cillian O'Sullivan,I would judge it more on a Leinster campaign rather than a Hastings Cup campaign..

3 years ago Cork Under 21s beat Kerry by 22 points and that was in the championship,9 of those Kerry players have now All-Ireland medals.

This is bad. Typical lip service to U21 step up shorn of all college players due to the Micky Mouse OByrne Cup (I would feel that the Hastings is no great shakes but can be classed as a League for U21 Counties) Along with that 4 or 5 U21s with Meath Seniors is very wrong these players should be fully committed to U21 panel until Meath are beaten in U21 Championship. They should not be playing OByrne Cup and have limited input in the National League. We in Meath should have enough players to implement this.

Thats what I think
