Are our Development teams working.

Think a few of you are forgetting that this bunch of coach's with the exception of Kenny maybe, have all been heavily involved in one way or another in county teams over the last number of years. Releasing an article like that is Pulling the wool over the eyes again I feel lads.. In my opinion a lot of the older blood in the county have a lot to answer for in regards to the state of club and county football at present. the older coach's cant let go of the old ways of playing which just doesn't cut it at intercounty anymore, at any age. Football is not as beautiful as it once was.

This is a good development and the two ex-players have all been involved at underage and adult football over the last 15 years on a continuous basis. For the greater part of the past 10 years there were guys promoted as coaches who managed development squads and in most cases the guys were not, or had not, any experience in their own clubs at underage level and were in the main not of a very high coaching calibre. This idea about being too old to coach is typical of the nonsense that abounds. The biggest problem with coaching (apart from all the gadgets) is the 'new coach' who has all the certs but little football experience and little football skills. Sometimes I wonder who coaches the coach to a cert? Some of the best coaches in the county are guys who have never been near county development squads but continue to work within their own clubs.

Browncows - you talk alot of sense, too many of these "modern" coaches think its all about them and NOT the players. They also think that winning a couple of development games makes them the new guru's to Meath football. I think these appointments are excellent, all good men with proven track records. It should be for the good!

ziggy; I 100% agree with you , Connor comes from a genuine GAA family is is genuinely interested in getting Meath back on track. Will agree the last brigade had pulled it to rock bottom but when you see here today we have Dunganney Centre of excellence getting its dressing rooms after 20 years in the making , and hopefully now these appointments our development squads and county teams commence benefiting by Boylan, Orourke, McEntees& Kennys handle on things. I feel no one can dispute these guys have the interest of Meath football at heart and we all wish them well. An Mhi Abu!

Cilles Man , we will wait and see. Hopefully the improvement in focus received at Dev level will start bearing fruit soon . Posters here have stated that the Special committee have been around for some time in one guise or other , Sean Boylan as Football Director , And Colm o Rourke in various guises , schools and County , Gerry McEntee has had a peripheral involvement , though mainly he has plied his trade in his adopted County of Dublin ( Which is the type of Dev system we need to be emulating or bettering so that is itself is a big positive) . The only way that these detractors can be silenced is by action . Not PR .Hopefully we will see some real advances in how our Dev squads are handled , with the appropriate actions at the appropriate levels.

Development Squad

Facebook has it 3 wins and a 1 point loss for Meath u14s against Dublin last the weekend. Any match reports? How have the Development squads done this year?

No match reports but I went,my cousen is on the panel..

I must say I was impressed with them. One game they won something like 5-15 - 1-5..

Meath and Dublin had split squads,so they had four matches.Meath won 3 of them and lost one by a point. What impressed me is how well they seem to be coached and for 14 year olds they played very well as a team(including the game they lost),always seemed to be players available for the player in possession and they had the cleverness to mix up different styles too.

Our development teams are a pale comparison to the other counties , a new approach badly needed , have the best players on the panels, if that means 6 from a leading team and none from the weaker clubs so be it. How many times have we seen clubs demanding a player on a minor panel. To celabrate a loss as an achivement is short sighted . Wake up Meath or it will be 70 years before we beat westmeath again.

Not too sure that I get your post?

Celebrate what loss?

There are 4 or 5 Ashbourne players on the U14 squad,so not sure what your point is....

Ziggy, good to hear U14 teams are being coached.
Dont know all the U14 team coaches but know a couple of them are doing good work with underage teams in their clubs. Anything on the U15s or U17s.

The U15's were out on Sunday last as well , playing Cavan in Virginia , both the Meath Gold and Meath Green squads won their respective games comprehensively. Two weeks ago they played Louth in Drogheda , again a full sweep of games was achieved with substantial score lines .
Unfortunately it not the winning at this level that matters , its the development , in confidence , skill and team play as well as the other essential skills and knowledge required at this level , both the U14s and U15s utilise the best practises out there in relation to Nutrition, Hydration , and skills development . Both Underage squads have shown that they can compete with the best that are out there at their age groups . Its however what happens at U15-Minor level that dictates the real outcomes . And whether or not the promise of a Development team can be fulfilled . Unfortunately in Meath we cut the trees down at U16 level and then try to rebuild them fro the Gerry Reilly Tournament and Minor ....Madness

When you say "cut the trees down at U16 level" what exactly do you mean? I agree its not all about winning at the younger levels, but a winning mentality and a diet of winning helps. The U14's are well looked after and you say the U15's are too. What happens(or does not happen) at U16's?

Ziggy , you'e been posting on here long enough to know what happens in Meath Development circles at the U15-U16 transition stage within the Football arena . That dye has been caste on numerous occasions with dire outcomes. I don't believe I need to pull up that old acorn for you.

Not enough being done to weed out talent that failed to make minor/under 21 grades. Losing serious talent to soccer/rugby.
