A Positive Outlook on Meath GAA

Two teams giving their all, cannot ask for much more. Type of spirt that was once present in Meath football, sadly now only a distant memory

Seadog 54 GOT IT IN ONE THERE !! SPOT ON!! UNTIL WE CAN GET THAT SPIRIT WE ARE WASTING OUR TIME TALKING ABOUT INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS.
In an ideal world wearing the county jersey is sufficient motivation. The manager that cannot instill and maintain this culture is simply not up to the job.
In fairness MOD deserves a chance to explain why we are so poor.To ask for help and support if appropriate. He is also entitled to resign with dignity if he feels the demands are too high for him. The CB would fail in there responsibilities if they did not conduct a fair, constructive, challenging session with the clear objective of embarking on remedial action, and maintaining dignity of all concerned
To date it seems this CB are up to the job,but now have maybe their biggest challenge to date.....Good luck to them ! If it comes to it thanks MOD for trying a difficult and often thankless job !!

Yeah they spirit is long gone and that is main problem. I'd also agree that discussing individuals is fruitless as without the fighting spirit everything else is pointless.
Mod must address this. That's his job.
Let's not forget Kerry are in transition, how long should a team be in transition and be using this as a excuse?
The fitness levels of other counties are light years ahead of our own. Jesus we were tired after first half against Carlow look what mayo and Kerry had to do yesterday and indeed last week. Got to change the fitness regime NOW. Along with that a new voice alongside mod who can inject some fighting spirit is a must for next year.

Again though,it is hard to know if it is a fitness issue,or a couldn't be bothered issue..

No the fitness is well below standard. As for they couldn't be bothered Ziggy. I hope that's not the case, as if your right then mod has lost the dressing room.

Well a good few years now(under different management),we haven't seen the courage, attitude or determination we saw in yesterdays game.

Lads "in transition" is a bulls**t phrase that people throw out as an excuse when a team are bad. What are Kerry transitioning from? What are they transitioning into? Same with ourselves, in what sense are we in transition?

We're solid and static while some teams leapfrog us, in 2009 Cork and Tyrone were the teams to avoid, then in 2011 we saw Kildare and Donegal jump up, then moving on to 2013 and Dublin and Mayo had pushed on. We've been top 10 or so (and no better or worse) since 2007, reaching provincial finals and AI quarter finals.

You can talk all you want about fight and tactics, but I think it may boil down to simply not having the players to compete.

Your last line is WRONG,you do not know until players are leaving it all out on the field..

Again Donegals display today shows what a good tactical plan, heart, desire, full committment can do.I wouldn't say Donegal have a much better playing staff than here..

ZIGGY As you say DONEGAL resources maybe similar to our own. So really we need stop hiding behind the "excuse" lack of resources, and concentrate on proper management now. This is just repeating what has been said so many times in these posts. Hoping the CB deal with this problem now...Perhaps our "DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL" could assist after watching both semi finals

I vaguely remember a Director of Football role being filled so went and did some research.

Seems the great Sean Boylan was appointed as "Director of Football" in September 2011. He was to oversee development and coaching, aswell as being in contact with county management teams. He seems to have resigned in March 2012, saying it wasnt working out, and being frustrated at the slow pace of things being worked on.

In February 2013 he was back, this time as "Director of Games", in which his main role as far as I can see is to sit on committees for chosing county managers for the various grades. It says in one article that this time he will work with county managers but wont be " impinging on their authority". Presumbly this mean he stood on a few managers toes the first time.

To be honest I've a feeling this "Director of X Y and Z" Jazz is just a box ticking exercise so that the county board can say they have Sean Boylan on board. The fact that none of these positions existed before he took them strengthens my belief in that. While his expertise is good to have, he's only one vote on various committees, rather than the main man pulling the strings.

CastleBravo Such a pity if Boylan is used as a political football rather than DIRECTOR of football. What a waste of such a great resource if that is the case!! This poster would wish that the CB request Boylan be given full powers as " director of football".
The CB may need EGM to do this,so be it.No doubt Boylan has the ingredients for the role.Presumably he can see that major surgery is now required rather than sticking plaster solutions !! He would of course have to have total support from CB. No room for playing politics now..This is urgent..We do not want to become another Offaly

I mean this in the highest respect to Donegal
I don't feel they have a hugely more talented squad than our own. Is there really that gulf between how us and them played v dubs. Five year nonsense is just that. Jmcg came into Donegal at a very low point and told them they'd win a all ire within 4 years they did it in 2 and may do a double within the 4 years. With and again I don't mean disrespect a limited enough panel. That's what we need.

What a performance by Donegal, fitness, spirit, hard graft, pride in the jersey, no prima donnas. A manager with a plan, able to read the game and make changes in real time. We cannot tick even one of those boxes.
