the silence on this page about the plight of hurling in Athboy is deafening, this is the club 3rd in the list of senior championships and they haven't even made the quarter finals. are hurling people going to stand by in that club and let hurling die? this club has nine senior championships just think about that for a minute... how long will kildalkey or kiltale be playing before they amass 9 senior titles?

meath hurling when at its peak had several teams genuinely aiming for senior title in the 1990s , Trim, kilmessan, rathmoylon,kildalkey,killyon, athboy, navan, even wolfe tones. all these teams made the final between 86-96.in that timedunderry and longwood and kiltale were in semi finals.
meath hurling cant afford to lose athboy , rathmoylon or tones from serious hurling. because I don't think kilskyre or moylagh will make the jump to a serious senior outfit without amalgamation.

Dickie10, it is a bit worrying about Clann na nGaels demise and the more competitive teams we have the better, but to put it bluntly it's their problem. Not a lot other hurling clubs can do to fix up CNG. Hardly the beginning of their problems either, werent they bouncing between Intermediate and Senior both before and after their amalgamation?

Hard to pinpoint the problem in athboy. theyre underage record is diplorable in both codes. It cant be blamed on the pick because with rathcairn there is a huge area. There only a junior rugby team which is a winter sport so that leaves the soccer which is also mainly played during the winter months.
granted they won a junior a few years ago and it wont be long before theyre junior again especially when graham retires and some of the older players like shaw and woods.

There just appears to be a lack of interest in the club
