Intermediate championship 2014

Am I right in saying that Ballinlough reach the knock out stages if they beat Syddan, or win by 4 points more than if Trim beat Nobber. If that's the case 25/1 is generous.

Rathoat were favs this time last year too and look where they finished. I think they believed all the hype about themselves.. Can't see them doing it this year either. For me Syddan are best value.

Yeah that's it Goldstar. The players believed their own hype. Nothing to do with missing some of our best players for the quarter final. Believe me, there was no "hype".
Y'know, I kind of missed the whole "Ratoath are overhyped/bottlers" rubbish we used to get in the Junior championship. Still think the price for Ratoath is ridiculous even if they have lengthened since the start of the season.

Balivor by far the strongest team this year, they have a great mix of strenght, youth and have a great fight about them

Dunno if they'd fear anyone to be honest.
On the other hand, they wouldn't think they're unbeatable obviously. Ballivor beat them by a hell of a lot more than the one point margin suggests. Even Carnaross kept within striking distance for most of the game last weekend until Joey Wallace's wondergoal.
No matter who the team gets in the knockouts, it'll be too tough to call. How Ratoath are such raging hot favourites and the three unbeaten teams left are 13/2 or 8/1, I don't know.

With the Intermediate Grade reaching it's conclusion in the group stages, this is my two cents on where teams stand.

Castletown vs Kilmainham: Castletown to return to winning ways against relegation favourites Kilmainham
Longwood vs Balinabracky: A tight low scoring, hard hitting affair with the Bracks to win by the skin of their teeth.
St. Michaels vs Dunderry: Micks have nothing to play for, Dunderry will win to keep momentum up.
Trim vs Nobber: Nobber to win but miss out on qualification due to poor form at start of season.
Balinlough vs Syddan: The Lough are the form team in the Intermediate not losing a competitive game since their drubbing at the hands of Drumbaragh. Syddan are also flying in Championship but the Lough should win an entertaining encounter.
Don/Ash vs Ballivor: Ballivor should easily account for Don/Ash who have struggled this year.
Carnaross vs Ultans: This will be an interesting battle between two local teams. Ultans are safe if Don/Ash lose, but Carnaross have to win to stay up. Interestingly Carnaross can still qualify if results go their way and that might just see them over the line.
Clann na Gael vs Ratoath: The Clann na Gael club seem to have imploded after winning their first 2 championship games, Ratoath should have enough here.

That would mean the quarter finals would consist of:
1) A1 v B3 or C3. (2) B1 v C2. (3) C1 v A3. (4) B2 v A2.

1. Castletown vs Balinlough(who will have enough for the 3rd placed team in Group C in the Prelim)
2. Colmcilles vs Ratoath
3. Ballivor vs Balinabracky
4. Syddan vs Dunderry

Semis: 1 v 4, 2 v 3
Castletown vs Syddan
Ratoath vs Ballivor

Final: Castletown vs Ballivor with Ballivor to win

Relegation: Drumbaragh, Kilmainham and Don/Ash with Kilmainham to fall through to Junior.

It would be an absolute disgrace if either syddan or the cilles didn't try to win their last games as it would have bad repercussions on teams fighting relegation .eg .If cilles take it easy on drumbarragg and syddan beat ballinlough .It puts a different look on the relegation fight . I know there is no way of knowing if either team will do this but if they do they should think about the repercussions for other clubs

If a team ends up in relegation they have only themselves to blame. Could easily have gotten out of the problem by winning more matches and not worrying about others.

Don't think Castletown can play balinlough or whoever qualifies from the preliminary game dunderry are winners of that group

Very interesting that Ballinlough just happened to win by 1 more point than they needed and Syddan became bad all of a sudden after being top of the group. I wonder how many first team were out today.

Ballivor beating Dona/Ashbourne with a last minute point put Clann na nGael through, a Dona/Ash win would have left 3 teams on 4pts which then would have put St. Ultans through. Ballivor fielded a weakened team without about 7 Kildalkey hurlers who were "rested"! Shows they have a decent squad.

Who was at the syddan ballinlogh game? ha I was joking when I said syddan would be better off losing it in the long term. Did they field a weakened team or are ballinlough a force to be reckoned with?

I was at the Trim game and the word was that Ballinlough were 6 points up against Syddan. Trim got a late goal and won by 4 points so the gap to Ballinlough was 8 points. With Ballinlough needing to win by 9 we thought we should be ok leaving the ground but heard later that Ballinlough won by 9.

Ballinlough are no great shakes, overly reliant on Peadar Byrne, and that is why I was surprised that they beat Syddan by so much. Syddan had qualified so it didnt mean that much to them. Trim should have beat Ballinlough last week and the issue wouldnt have arisen then.

Ballinlough may well beat Clann NaGael but wont go any further.

Not sour grapes. Trim and Ballinlough drew two weeks ago. If Trim had qualified i would probably say the same. Good chance of beating CNaG but dont think we are good enough to beat Dunderry.

over reliant on Peader Bryne, they scored 1-18 yesterday with 7-8 different scorers.
