Meath minors 2014

Strange indeed 2 ex Inter County Managers on board looked like a strong team for McEntee v a couple of unknowns and a late addition in Tommy Dowd. Looks like McEntee face did not fit or he ruffled the wrong feathers

Some of Eoin Carrolls back room team may be unknown but that does not mean they are the likes of Gerry Cooney and Colm Coyle are better than them just because they are household names. I can say now you wont see Eoin Carroll picking his team based around who covers the most ground in training and who benches the heaviest weights in the Gym. He will play an attacking style of football in keeping witht the Meath tradition. Hard, Honest and hardworking. In the 2012 All Ireland Minor Championship Final McEntee deployed a very deffinsive formation where he played all of his half forward line behind the ball and left two men up front. Basically he new Meath would be beaten so went out to keep the score down against Dublin that day. I think its right for a change at Minor level because Eoin Carroll has had most of next years minors from the age of 14 and knows who he is dealing with and can get the best out of them.

Guys, you are missing the point, all these people are good, but the structure we have is a disaster. We give a guy a job, give him six months to produce silverware then measure him by the content of the trophy cabinet. This is madness!!

If we continue slagging of managers then we are going to put good people off going for these jobs!

Carroll was with the u17 team last ear, he knows the players! And has been working with them all year, It was the correct decision to keep him on as manager. No point letting a manager being in charge of Meath underage teams from u14's to u17's and then excusing them when it gets to minor to give the job to a big name manager who doesn't even know the players. This is a good step forward for Meath. Stan Gibney got the boot a few years ago to make way for davy Dalton. And that was a disaster.

AH No TeD, youre wrong!, sure we have a Minor organisation second to none in Meath this year. FOR EXAMPLE:

The Chronicle says there were 17 different competitive Under17 league games down for decision last night (Wed). Not a peep in public about one of these 34 teams or one of these 500+ Under 17 potential minors 2014 before this Chronicle mention- Nothing, Nada, faic - AND no result or report on a GAA website or anywhere else today - not likely to be.
Sure its only the rugby and soccer boys in Meath that need to treat players and their families with minimal courtesy by publicising fixtures etc.
No need for us to publicise organised Gaelic games in November in Meath, the annual underage fixtures mayhem could never drive Gaelic players to stop and leave for other codes.
Btw Good luck to Eoin and Tommy and co.with the minors and that in 2014.

noneutral "Does anyone else think this is a strange development? Seems like Andy Mc Entee wanted to continue in the position.Talking to some people close to the set up the training and preparation over the past 2 years compared with anything other counties were doing in terms of strength and conditioning and coaching.Real progress seemed to be made and the team reached an All Ireland 2 years ago granted through the back door but still. If Colm Coyle was going to get involved this year as well surely the set up was going to be even stronger.Yet the powers that be have gone with a less experienced untried option.Something doesn't add up."

It's most definitely a strange development and you can be sure it's not just down to football....Politics are at play here and it makes no sense handing over the ropes to an inexperienced manager and background team when unrivaled work has been done with the Meath Minors over the past two years under Andy and his background team. Not going to work.

Big Joe
With all due respect "playing football in keeping with the Meath tradition" is exactly what has Meath football where it is today. The modern game has moved so far forward and still some Meath people like yourself continue to think that the we should keep playing the "traditional" way. Surely the place to start to change this is at underage which is exactly what Andy McEntee has been doing these past two years with the minors. What did you expect him to do in 2012 go man to man against a far superior team as Dublin were, a team that Dessie Farrell had from under 14 and get beat by 20 pts? At least they were still in the game with 10 mins to go. Also with all due respect to Eoin Carroll and his new management team surely Cooney and Coyler who have both managed senior inter county teams would bring a little more to the set up than the present incumbents. I know that politics played a huge role in the decision to dispense with McEntee and I believe Meath football will suffer as a result of this crazy decision but that said I wish Eoin Carroll all the best for 2014.

Meath minors a force! (ah com on ted)
What year did we last win an all ireland?
Answer :1992 (thats right 21 years ago)(getting to finals is kinda like if my aunt had !!! you know the rest..)
So our set up isnt that good...

I agree that Eoin Carroll should get the job after all he has been with these guys over the past while, I also agree that a big name does not automatically mean results will follow (will we mention the name BANTY) also has anybody looked into who will be helping out Eoin...
I have been told by a good source the Sean Boylan is on hand to help.
On another point
How is a young man to gain experience ??

Best of Luck to our minor TEAM including management in 2014

Best wishes to Eoin Carroll. One little niggling concern, hearing that his back room team includes mentors from club minor teams in Ashbourne and Trim. Squad selection must be made on merit alone. Lots of good footballers from smaller clubs in lower divisions improve by being involved in County set up.
