Replying To CastleBravo:  "You have to laugh at some of the stuff here. About 10/15 years ago Simonstown were losing finals and semi finals and the "prevailing wisdom" was that they were a spineless bunch of soft townies who didn't know how to win.

They win 1 senior championship and suddenly they're transformed into tough North Meath men who have a special winning spark that the rest of the county don't have.

Geography is destiny huh?

(No disrespect to Simonstown, I doubt they say these things themselves. And they certainly call themselves a "North Meath" club considering they're just the northern end of Navan Parish)"
Certainly don't*

If you look at a map of the county and you draw a line thru the middle to divide it in two, then that line would put all of Navan in the north-west of the county - or north as some posters refer to it. I'm not sure what purpose that would serve though. Now the most northern part of the county is the Wood and the most southern part is Dunboyne/St Pauls. From a geographic point of view the Walterstown club would be the closest club to mid-county, I think.

Maybe it's you that should brush up on your geography, read browncows post.... As I have said in a previous post on this forum, there was a time when Sean Boylan had a series of ''Trial'' matches between North and South Meath picking what he saw as potentially from each club as fit to pull on the jersey. It was played on several grounds around the county which drew crowds and intensity to the games. If, ''geographically'', this were ever to happen again then players from Navan O'Mahonys, Simonstown and so on would line out for North Meath.

I personally think it's a great idea and would love to attend these type of games, which would also be better than half the scrappy challenge matches that are used for pitch openings.

Even as a south Meath man I'd love if the majority of players came from North Meath as I

Even as a South Meath man I would love if the team was made up of North Meath players for the most part as any time I've played North Meath clubs they were tough, hardy and aggressive. The only problem is that they need to be able to play football as well and not enough of them can I'm afraid. I can't think of any North Meath lads who are worthy of playing on the Meath team that aren't bar Matimoe maybe. Maybe young lads like Frank O'Reilly, Paddy Mathews and Cian McBride will buck the south Meath trend in the coming years and hopefully they do but as of now the players aren't there

And if you drew a line down the middle of the county, Navan would probably be slightly to the east of it. Does that make O'Mahonys and Simonstown East Meath clubs? It would be as pointless an exercise as drawing a line across the middle.

I'm not sure where this idea of harder men in the north of the county comes from. Some of the hardest men I have ever seen play in the green and gold came from below this mythical North South dividing line, which a few weeks ago was put at the Round O, but now seems to have drifted south to around the Tara na Ri. Lyons (either of them), Harnan, Foley, Mc Dermott, Fay - all strong tough men.
As you rightly say though, it is no good just being tough and aggressive - those days are long gone. You have to be strong and fit and fast, and be able to play as well. Unfortunately we don't have enough of those type of players anywhere in the county at present - North, South East or West.

Summerhill were good. Well drilled and in 11 (Ennis) i think he is a great player. Good movement and well drilled but i am not too sure if they will have enough for Simonstown if they get over the Tones. O Mahonys are in for a few years of transition i think and it was like youth prevailed. NOM started of with long balls into the forwards which worked very well but Summerhill got to grips with it and ground it out. No major outstanding performance but a good workman like one from the Hill.

Summerhill were much the better team, down a goal after a couple of minutes and yet won by 5.like you said workman like. I saw a few kells lads there and they must be quietly confident. They have a far superior forward line to nom and at times I thought the s/hill backs were very open and they didn't win alot around the middle for about 2/3 of the game, it was just that navan were nowhere near good enough to take advantage. Not sure about the transition period, they have very little coming through and could be in for a prolonged period on the outside looking in as far as the business end of things go. What odds tones and kells in final!!

Still a lot to do but all 4 teams are capable of winning it.
