The Donegal/Armagh Row - 9 Like(s)
GAA Discilinary System is a national laughing stock. There isn't a sporting body in the world with a shambolic dysfunctional Disciplinary System like the GAA. How three players can get off, particularly one who is clearly shown throwing a punch & 2 others who decide not to appeal, get punished is actually laughable, but an embarrassment. Who would want to be associated with that type of Ballymagash set up. They are campaigning to recruit referees, yet they consistently overturn their decisions. Who would want to be a ref when the National Organisation won't even back you up, it also implies that referees are wrong in the decisions they made. As for the appeals process, what a shambles, similar to the mess that our legal & judicial system is in, all tied up in legal speak & only benefiting the perpetrators. It was clear to see from the video evidence that one player connected with a punch to the head. The GAA are playing with fire in relation to head injuries in their games & even accidental clashes can have tragic outcomes as we sadly saw this week. Any contact with the head should be automatic bans. Some players will start to take legal actions in relation to injuries & rightly so. The GAA won't act until it's too late for someone & then probably overturn their decision anyways. Again Transparency is a big issue. Clubs can't see who has been suspended or for how long, so it's wide open to abuse & a blind eye turned to it. The appeals process is a joke, no details ever published or how "technicalities" arose. The clubs with influence usually treated differently. At national level everybody knows the members of the appeals committee, how do we know these people are not been pressured by counties. As usual we will never know as there is no transparency. Standards being set by the National body are really poor & putting parents off involvement as they see an organisation that talks about discipline but actually is just that, all talk & no system or consistency behind it. This decision this week just beggars belief & shown that it's a sport with no values.

Leinster Football The Reality - 8 Like(s)

Replying To GreenandRed:  "Dublin haven't killed the Leinster championship, it's up to other Leinster counties to give them more to think about and improve and eventually beat them. Look at Cork last night putting Kerry to the pin of their collar. As you say the other teams are doing well in the qualifiers. They need to keep improving and strive to beat Dublin.Dublin have a psychological advantage over some counties who get to games with a 'sure we'll do our best' atitude rather than self-belief that they'll win. Now definitely they are formidable opponents with a great manger but some teams are affectively starting games against them three or four points down. Donegal and Kerry won All Irelands recently so a whole load of positivity in the head might reduce that big gap a bit and it might breed the confidence needed to knock the off their perch."
Throw on a Sky blue jersey there, I never saw a guy on here to be backing everything in relation to the Dubs, it's a laugh.

Analyst Claims Dubs 'Actually Being Underfunded' - 8 Like(s)

Replying To jimbodub:  "Incredible effort by Na Fianna Effort mirrored by many Dub clubs north and south of the river. Shows the work being done by the volunteer is well beyond the level of GPO's and gives a far better insight into the work being done at grass root level. "With the greatest respect to sports journalism in Ireland, I don't think it's been well-researched. I could demonstrate lots of information that would make it a lot more nuanced topic than it's been." Gray's club Na Fianna recently carried out research which revealed that 2,000 hours of voluntary work was going into the club on a weekly basis compared to 40 hours work by the club's Games Promotion Officer. "If you want to talk about the relative importance of volunteer hours versus GPO hours, that's objective research." What do you honestly believe is having the greatest impact in developing the games in Dublin? GPO's have relevance but nothing even remotely as effective as is made out. 2000 volunteer hours per week at Na Fianna Vs 40 GPO hours per week at Na Fianna You apply that sort of insight across the board in Dublin and yes.. of course it's nothing to do with the volunteer right? Congrats to Na Fianna for the massive work being done. It would be great to see more Dub clubs coming forward and shouting out loud about their work which is so easily dismissed and shamefully ignored."
All voluntary activity is to be praised & well done to Na Fianna but the Dublin U 20 manager completely misses the point. Voluntary activity is taking place in every club across the country pro rata to the size of each club. The size of the Na Fianna club & the number of hours doesn't overcome the number of voluntary hours been put into smaller rural clubs, in fact I would say that pro rata voluntary activity in all clubs would equal out regardless of size or location. Nobody is questioning volunteerism in Dublin & to say so, is only clouding the issue. The alarming figure for me is the number of GPO hours they received, as I know that clubs in Galway are receiving no where near that at any level even pro rata. In fact with direct past experience, the only GPO hours certain club were getting was through local schools with less than 20 hours in the year. It's interesting that the President John Horan's club are the first out with these facts, the fact that Dublin volunteerism is being put forward as greater than any other volunteerism nationwide is deeply insulting & should result in a massive backlash, in fact it does nothing but damage the already under threat level of volunteerism. The figures quoted for GPO hours may yet come back to haunt them as clubs nationwide will now do their own research & the findings for the GAA may be very very alarming. This whole festering issue is deeply dividing the whole Association & damaging the whole association. The fact that we have highly paid officials & DG & there is not a peep from them as the whole thing festers, just like all the problems last year, shows nothing but lack of leadership. Ideally the ESRI could be commissioned to establish the facts around this matter independently of the GAA & let the real story emerge, as it has now become he says, she says & nothing but spin.

Nice to see the new €87 million taxpayer funded Irish Aviation Authority control tower at Dublin Airport lit up in blue especially for the Dubs. Nobody else figures on their radar. Maybe the now regular flyover by the Air Corp can have Sky blue smoke only, released for the Dubs only. Nice to have the Hill dominated in blue & tog out in the usual dressing room & warm up at the usual end. What theme music will be played for the Dubs at half time. Shake hands with a familiar figure in the middle of the field prior to the game & Johno rewarded for his staunch defence of all funding & exceptional volunteers by handing over the trophy. Yes all is in place for the coronation.

Never did a statement from the President of the Association do more damage to volunteerism of the Association by placing one set of volunteers above all others.

Worldwide pandemic crisis, housing & rental crisis, hospitals overrun, schools at breaking point, inflation jumping, energy crisis with threats of blackouts, insurance still scamming people, people on zero contract hours & minimum wage jobs, criminals running riot with 100's convictions, drugs awash in every part of the country, most expensive hospital ever built in the world, the list of serious problems in this country is endless & all this genius can be concerned about is referees's, beggars belief & calls into question his abilities. The most high profile GAA referee in the country has even come out & dismissed his statement. Why do we elect people like this, this guy is one of the 166 people elected to run the country & his only contribution is about refereeing. Let the individual sports bodies who have lots of very highly paid staff & CEO's sort out the issues around referees, that is their job & if they can't run their organisation let the members get rid of them. No surprise that his party are sliding down the polls, people who have zero interest in running the State for the betterment of its citizens, only concerned about vested interests, vulture funds or setting themselves up for big jobs in Europe or the U.N. & are so far out of their depth in doing so. Parish Pump Politicians.

Best of luck to Wicklow & John Evans today in their on average three hour 160 km round trip journey for their home game v the football, financial & political clout of the mighty Dubs. Great credit to the Leinster Council, our outgoing DG, our current DG & the Gaa for creating such inequity. I'm sure that next years meet & greet for Wicklow footballers will be a massive success, probably best to hold it in the home pitch at O Moore park. C'mon Wicklow !!

The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 6 Like(s)
Many have had friends who died during the lockdown & were unable to go to their funerals, (in many cases they had to decide which family members were allowed into the church & graveyard), many minded family members with an underlying condition & elderly parents, many obeyed all the guidelines, many lost their job, many watched a family member on the direct frontline, contract the virus & get very ill & today many have now given up after today's protests around the country. Scenes of mass crowds shoulder to shoulder on all the national media outlets & Gardai just standing by, in fact quoted as saying it was well organised & not a bleat from our politicians, why did we go through all the lockdown making many sacrifices, when it was all blatantly abused today. If the politicians, media & Gardai have no issue about today's mass gatherings, the GAA might as well bang away & do what they want now. The current "Govt." have absolutely zero legitimacy after the Keelings issue & today's mass gatherings, everyone will now start doing as they wish. I feel sorry for all the frontline staff, the CMO & all those who lost loved ones & couldn't have the traditional grieving process. Listening to the minister for health talking out of both sides of his mouth is stomach churning. We need another election, we seem to have one rule for some & another rule for others. I wouldn't be surprised to see all organisations & businesses do as they wish now as we have never being all in this together. The possible obstacle for the GAA is the insurance issue, the insurance vultures are going to clean up & screw everybody again, all whilst the Govt. turn a blind eye.

Should The Rebel Flag Be Banned At Cork Matches? - 5 Like(s)
Will the Cork county board chairperson confiscate Palestinian flags flown at GAA matches as well or will she just choose to ignore it as its not a popular bandwagon to jump on. We all know our politicians & wannabe politicians wont touch that as it would have all the left wing extremists & media slate the action. Many people are using this to enhance their political standing or for moving up the political ladder here & in Europe rather than for what the issue is about. Will the Rising Sun flag be next up, as the Japanese tortured many US soldiers who were persons of colour. What if the Protesant or Loyalist community start complaining about being offended by the Cork flag or by GAA clubs in Cork named after people who fought British rule, outlandish, not a bit, that is what is up next, where do you stop. You cannot & should not re write history. This whole thing has been hijacked by people & organisations who are extremists as well, who want to impose their own ideals & silence others. This is not incidential, Peter Sutherland advised the EU to do its best to undermine national homogenity & within a few years, millions had entered Europe causing massive unrest & putting some countries on the point of collapse. This is part of social engineering & removal of national identities, lets not forget we are "very white", a disgraceful comment by the Taoiseach of this country. Ireland has a massive history of sending people to the missions & have being one of the highest contributors per capita to famine relief schemes & recently were massive contributors to the Navajo/Hope native people, not the actions of a country rampant with racism. Majority of Irish people are not racist, but any debate or difference of opinion from what the extremists or the media want is shouted down & everyone labelled as racists. A good example of this is the way the Direct Provision set up was foisted on rural communities as we saw recently in Caherciveen & elsewhere. Communities ravaged economically & ignored for decades by our political class, foisting huge numbers of people on communities who didn't have the facilities to cater for these poor people and with no consultation. It was frustrating for all involved & does nothing for integration. However as soon as communities objected our pathetic Minister for Justice & political class & media shut down all debate & labelled the entire communities as alt right & fascists/racists, absolutely the opposite to what these people are. If you want to sort out these issues, fine but when you silence all debate & through out labels such as alt right & racists, you alienate people are only ensuring division rather than integration. The political class & media here & in England are doing a good job of creating a divided society & the US which is a really cocked up society will some day end up in civil war. There is no sign of real leadership who will bring people together whilst respecting all sides & finding solutions to issues & definitely a lack of courage within media to do the same. this will all end badly the way things are going.

GAA Athletes For A NO Vote - 5 Like(s)

Replying To jimbodub:  "Well I'll be voting Yes but completely respect the decision of someone voting No. If more people vote no or more people vote yes - regardless of the outcome it should be respected. This is going to get quite nasty before it's all over and even afterwards there will unfortunately be a lot of bitterness Ireland doesn't do Yes or No very well... as our history has so sadly proven."
You say you respect those voting no, yet you come on here outraged at those Gaa figures voting No, where you have put up six posts on the issue, stated you are voting Yes & failed to dismiss with the same outrage those Gaa figures that came out this week stating they were supporting the Yes campaign. Rose tinted glasses, you are far from impartial or respectful of others, you have driven one agenda. I believe the GAA should never be politicised but it has been for decades & I am totally against it. Anyone coming on here claiming to be respectful yet expressing the way their going to vote is only driving their agenda.

Stupid post, longing for the past. Like fellas saying ah shure I remember when we used to have Summers, or when went to school in our bare feet & had no arse to our trouser. When the pint was less than a pound & if you were in a row it would be just fists no knives or guns. You just want a select group of people, one of the big laughs here is this league table & it is so obvious, fellas showing up on every thread & different counties threads, a typical example is Pat from county x comes on & says wishing Ye all the best the next day ye should win. This is repeated over & over till he gets the likes. Or it's usually where one group from a county target another group & they keep posting & all the lads from his county give him loads of likes, it's pathetic, just like the need to have Tim, John & Pat from the old days, ffs.

Best / Worst TV/Radio Commentators? - 5 Like(s)

Replying To supersub15:  "Cv's and interviews are no longer a pre- requisite for men in particular to land the job they want, politics and a system now play a big part in filling job vacancies. Knowing who is going to fill a vacancy before it becomes vacant well in advance is not good politics, in my own opinion all jobs in particular highly paid jobs should be advertised, appropriate interviews held, the successful applicant will be selected on merit after ticking all the boxes, no gender bios but gender balance agreed. The Sunday game is only a very small part of RTE, Declan Mc Bennett may be the man in charge, but he is only a small part of RTE sport, inner politics and the system within are much bigger. Sean O'Rourkes upcoming vacancy and probable successor was well aired in advance."
I agree with your post. RTE should be sold off to the private sector. Millions in debt, yet they continue to pay mega salaries to RT & JD et al. SOR being brought back in after retiring was disgusting & symbolic of what we saw in Golfgate. On a mega salary & brought back in for a second bite of the cherry after retiring, this should not be happening. There are hundreds of young people of ability out there who would have done the job for a lot less & who wouldn't be giving an easy ride to those they interviewed. Then of course it's hard to ask the tough questions when you socialise with the same people. RTE has being cocooned from reality for decades as these people were all within the Golden Circle which is still so obviously alive in Ireland today, these people have no grasp of reality & will trot out the usual lines that in today's online world that we need a public service provider to highlight things. In that they have failed. It took two print journalists with guts to expose Golfgate & don't think pressure wasn't exerted by certain people to drop this. We need more real journalists like this to expose the sleaze & lies in all aspects of Irish society, including the GAA. Another faux paus is bringing Enda Kenny in to do an Irish language programme on Irish railways. Why can't we give this job to a young up & coming presenter, not to a multiple pension holder whose current. Regardless of whether he is paid for the role or not, it is denying a young person an opportunity, this guy has had plenty of them. I would never watch a programme presented by a guy who labelled all Irish citizens at Davos, as having all partied in the Boom. Jobs should be given on merit & gender basis, not politics & RTE need to come into the private world & see how long they would survive paying a handful of people lottery type salaries.

The road to division. - 5 Like(s)
Padraic Duffys contempt & dismissal of the CPA was disgraceful & in total contrast to the way the GAA, Duffy & O Fearghail treat the GPA, in fact these two have set the foundation stone for pay for play by giving the GPA a percentage of all commercial GAA revenue. In fact since the launch of the CPA the reaction to them from both the GAA & GPA has been pathetic & one of contempt. His refusal to even engage with them or grant more time is poor but his belittling attitude only sums up Croke Parks contempt & disregard for clubs & club players who have been treated disgracefully for years. It is now inevitable that the Association will in time split in two, today is just another stepping stone in that direction. Croke Parks main objectives revolve around TV deals & the Inter County game, 2% of the Associations membership devouring everything. Time for clubs to set up their own county boards & provincial boards that focus on them solely. Let the registration & affiliation & club c'ship sponsorship go into the new organisation.

Dean Rock Free Taking Project - 5 Like(s)
A couple of observations : 1/ He is being very honest in setting up what he sees as a business adventure & very honest about the fees charged & in being so public about the fees any income would have to be declared. I admire his honesty in this regard, which is in direct contrast to the thousands of club & county managers/coaches who have received massive fees over the decades, on a continuous basis in many cases, these were paid under the table & never declared to Revenue. Those managers have been a blight on the GAA & caused massive divison in clubs in particular. That figure lost to the State in under the counter payments over the decades, would go into the millions. The reason this has never been investigated properly is because some of the people involved earning some of the largest sums, were representatives at the highest echelons in Irish society. Some day they will be outed. For that reason I hope Dean Rock succeeds (even though I am pro amateur status) as unlike all the others he has been upfront & honest, a rarity in modern GAA. 2/ Technically under rule it is against the amateur status of the GAA & is just another step towards full blown professionalism. But who can blame him as at all levels of the GAA everybody is out to make something out of it, from managers, to back room staff, to media etc, however the success of the GAA has been volunteering at all levels & people look at every little bit of erosion of it from within the GAA as being a reason why they should opt out or questioning why they should be giving their time for nothing when everybody else is on the make. The massive slide towards everybody gaining from the Association, led by the very people employed at the top who are supposed to uphold the amateur status, only ensures that it is only a matter of time before full blown professionalism & the negative affect that will have on volunteerism, happens. 3/ The attack by a high profile ex player on everybody who disagrees with this, only highlights the divison between ordinary members & those involved in the county set up. It's amazing how quickly some will pull on any county track suit top once they get the Dineros. Of course they wouldn't disclose their fees like Dean Rock did, cute hoors. As for the "begrudgers who are in bread" well says it all about the level of intelligence of those when they can't even spell, but hey some lads will jump on any bandwagon to make money & particular players from a certain county are notorious for drumming the long fingers. Labelling everybody who has a different point of view is only ensuring further division & entrenching people further as the GAA becomes a two tier Association. 4/ The 5 in a row Dublin team were an exceptional team on & off the field & the targeting of Dean Rock seems to have brought out the tribalism & hatred that is ingrained in GAA as people from various counties queue up to slate him & the Dubs, when in fact there have been numerous similar set ups by various other famous current & ex county players over the last couple of months & not a peep from those complaining now about Dean Rock. No doubt it will be used as sledging material against him this year, but when he didn't let objects being thrown at him bother him, I think he will manage the corner back shouting in his ear when he misses a free.

Padraic Duffy's plan - 5 Like(s)
Padraic Duffy's Super 8 plans are another nail in the coffin of clubs. He knows his proposals on the Super 8 & extra time will go through. His proposal on bringing the All Irl finals forward will be hammered by the Dinosaurs at Congress & was only thrown in by Duffy on that basis as a sop to the clubs. So now there will be four weeks more lost as counties won't allow club games two weeks before Inter County C'ship games. This is done to secure more TV coverage rights with the advent of professionalism coming in, to maximise revenue. Croke Park want professionalism in Gaa before the RWC 2023 lands here & wants to exploit the TV money out there before that RWC happens here. All words from Duffy & O Fearghaíl re clubs & their importance is just empty rhetoric, lip service to appease clubs. Their disdain for the CPA is staggering. The divide between Croke Park, Inter county players, the GPA, Provincial & County Boards on one side & clubs on the other is only going to increase further after this. There is no doubt that it is now a two tier organisation heading for a split. Watching Dick Clerkin last night on RTE was an insult to all club members. Duffy has only one section of the Association at heart. Congress is a joke as its full of people wanting to further their political ambitions within the Gaa, they will do & vote as suits their agenda often in total contrast to what their counties instructed them to do. Delegates sole thoughts at Congress are their Inter County teams, not Joe & Josephine playing & volunteering at the local club. Democracy my h#le, it's the most politically corrupt system in any sporting body.
