Dublin at a completely different level today and will make it interesting again Galway - Antrim found out today where they are at and staying in Div 1 was priority with championship success a bonus

Replying To CleanShoulder:  "That's it, heading home… At least we got a night away out of the fixture and that's the only positive from this game today. Hopefully Wexford make a raft of changes for the second half"
Hope you stayed a bit longer cleanshoulder.

Replying To Passer_By:  "If Meath were to beat Down and Carlow and Laois both win v Kildare and Kerry respectively, then Meath would slip in, in third place. Everyone still has some degree of skin in the game come the last round!"
Some last 20 mins by Down to dig it out and down to 14 men. Well done all.

A team who have come through and won Div 3 in Antrim plus promotion playoffs building character and teamwork against a team with good individual talent but no serious preparation bar a couple of Down Div 1 games. Is it a surprise really? Well done to all 4 teams today and congrats to Carryduff & Ballela.

Replying To 35OLT:  "50/50 game tomorrow. We would be doing a solid for Wexford if we win. That said, I'd love to see Westmeath finish 4th in the group! That would be a huge step for hurling in the county!"
Would love to see Antrim win tomorrow as important for Ulster to be represented in Top tier and secondly hopefully results go Westmeath's way and they stay up too. It would be interesting to see the media coverage of the Joe McDonagh Cup next year with Offaly and Wexford both there. Nothing again either county but great to see underdog winning in hurling. Fair play to Carlow on winning and Offaly as today's game showcased a great competition! Brilliant game.

Season in Down rounded off with good wins for Ballela and Shamrocks. Masterclass by Magee again and Ballela moving up will make for a very keenly contested JHC next year. Great result for Shamrocks and reflection of the hard yards put in by Shamrocks stalwarts over many years - None more so than our county senior manager. Carryduff have had a good season regardless of Sunday. Looking forward to the big Dunloy Slaughtneil game and hope Ballycran can do the business in final. Best of luck also to Ballela and Shamrocks in Ulster.

Under 20 Management - 1 Like(s)

Replying To germac:  "To be honest we beat ourselves last night, No doubt the players and management, will watch the game over again, and see were mistakes were made both on the pitch and on the side line, But all credit to everyone involved, on delivering our first Ulster title in 12 years, I do think this is a first class management team , who are only at the start of their journey, Ihave no doubt they will bring more glory days back to Down"
Good Down team and management - Didn't take chances and these lads can improve with experience - The only concern to me was Rossies had 3/4 tricky forwards who could eek out a score when needed and Down had maybe 2 out and out score takers.

Joe McDonagh Cup 2023 - 1 Like(s)

Replying To hurlingguru:  "We are 8 days from the Joe McDonagh Cup final and there has been no time or venue published officially. You'd have to question the GAA's commitment to hurling when such details for a final between teams ranked 12 and 13 in the hurling championship have not been published. There's not a hope in hell that the same scenario would apply to the final of the Tailteann Cup."
The Joe Mc from its inception has been a great competition with very poor TV coverage. The coverage of the Tailteann Cup has been way better. All games seem to be covered in Tailteann with highlights. Couldn't believe they actually showed the final 3 McDonagh group games on Saturday night for a change. Welcome. Better late than never.

Donal O'Gs Comments On Football In General And The TC In Particular - 1 Like(s)
Donal ógs comments were poor but lost in all of this has been the real lack of coverage by RTE of the McDonagh Cup compared to the Tailteann Cup. Important that both are given similar exposure. We have to promote our games as best we can. I would hazard a guess that many of our Football and Hurling snobs will put other sports eg Rugby or football ahead of one of our own.

Replying To CARPS:  "There's a lot of nonsense talk here about Munster vs Leinster. The reality is that "serious" hurling (ie. the top 15 counties - from Liam McCarthy and Joe McDonagh) is divided into three tiers. Tier One: Kilkenny, Galway, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, Cork Tier Two: Dublin, Wexford, Waterford Tier Three: Carlow, Antrim, Kerry, Laois, Offaly, Westmeath. Inside the tiers, any team can beat another. Any of tier two can beat a Tier One team on a given day. Tier Three teams cannot beat Tier One teams. However, Tier Three teams can beat Tier Two teams, on a given day. ie. Westmeath could beat Wexford, but they would not beat Kilkenny. Or Dublin could lose to Carlow, but they could also beat Galway. What the GAA should be trying to do is move more Tier Three teams into Tier Two, and expand Tier One. Not to mention getting the likes of Kildare, Meath and Down into Tier Three."
Great post CARPS - Only change I'd make would be Waterford in Tier 1 given a fair wind and prob Antrim in Tier given their results this year I think they are ahead of your Tier 3 teams. I agree that the teams just below your Tier 3 need a bit of extra help in terms of investment coaching etc as they are not far off the next level.
